Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the 12 Gauge Black Primary Wire

Today we're going to review and install the Deka 12-gauge black primary wire, part number 12-1-1. It meets the SAE J 1128 specification, has a nice thermal plastic cover, and inside are copper leads. Here we can see the nice copper strands. They're good and durable, don't break easily. After I strap back, they can be twisted together, then routed or connected as needed. Our 12-gauge wire can handle up to 50 volts and has a max temperature of 176 degrees Fahrenheit.

It has many uses. Some typical uses will be wiring on trailers, general connections or wiring repairs. Now for this application we're going to add some 12-gauge wire, slide it into the butt connector, crimp it down. We're going to go ahead and wrap it up with some black electrical tape to help keep it clean from dirt, dust, debris, and moisture. That will do it for the review and install of the Deka 12-gauge black primary wire, part number 12-1-1.

  • Troubleshooting Furrion Vision S Low Voltage Not Functioning
That is pretty low voltage for the Furrion Vision S camera to function so I would suspect that is the problem Kevin. It sounds like you are testing it with the vehicle not running which would make the circuit not have as high of voltage since alternator is running as well. So what I would recommend is try testing again but making sure the vehicle is running. That should get the voltage higher and allow it to work. If that does not raise the voltage then you would need to go with a heavier...

  • Can I Use The ZCI Harness 119250KIT To Combine Tail Lights On A Semi?
Yes, you can indeed use the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT to combine the tail lights on the semi. We actually recommend this product quite frequently for this purpose. To install the actual RV 7-way use install kit # ETBC7 which will include everything to install the 7-way and a brake controller. For a brake controller I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 since it is their most user-friendly and durable controller. You may need additional wire and...

  • How to Wire Electric Brakes on a Tandem Axle Trailer
If your trailer has 7 wires running all the way back to the brakes, then yes, you can tap into the existing wiring. Each of your new brakes will have two wires for the brake magnet. One wire is for 12 volt power to the brake magnets and the other wire should be grounded either to the trailer frame or to the main trailer ground wire. It does not matter which wire is used for power or ground because they are not polarized. If the trailer wiring is running down the left side of the trailer,...

  • Fuse Location for 12-Volt Accessory Feed to 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2005 Chevy Silverado
On GM vehicles of that vintage, the 12-V pin should be hot regardless of whether the ignition is on or not. If it isn't showing voltage even with the ignition on, you're almost certainly on the right track thinking it's a blown or possibly missing fuse. The 12-v feed circuit to the trailer connector is protected by a 40A fuse located in the power distribution box mounted to the inside of the driver's side fender in the engine compartment. Remove the lid and the cover to the box, which...

  • Troubleshooting No Power At The Factory Trailer Plug
There are a few troubleshooting steps to help you figure out why you have no power. I would start by making sure that there is not any corrosion or debris blocking your connection points. If they are clean or still no power after cleaning, I would check your grounding connections. Make sure your grounds are firmly connected to a clean, bare metal surface. Next, test the pins on the connector where the wiring harness plugs into the truck using a circuit tester like Item # PTW2992....

I looked up the Escapade motorcycle trailer and it showed the six wire colors as being: White - Ground Brown - Taillights Yellow - Left Turn Green - Right Turn Red - Brake Circuit Black - Accessory Terminal on Bike You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the function of the four wires on your motorcycle. They will most likely be ground, taillights, left turn/brake, and right turn/brake. You will want to wire the black wire on the trailer to the accessory terminal...

This proportional brake controller also has a built in diagnostic feature to help you resolve issues that might occur in your brake system. • How Would Hopkins Smart Hitch Back Up Camera be Installed on Front of Vehicle
We installed the Hopkins Backup Camera # HM50002 on a vehicle without a 7-way which I attached an install video to this page for you to check out. Basically it comes down to using the wiring that's on the 7-way connector plugs that come with the kit to run a powered source to. You'll see a white and purple wire from those two connectors. The purple wire you'd run a switch power source to like you mentioned and the white wire gets grounded and that's all you'd need to do from a wiring standpoint.

  • Is Reverse Light Circuit Needed When Using the Curt Echo Bluetooth Brake Controller
If you purchased a 4-Way/7-Way Hopkins adapter like part # 37185 so that you can use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 then you are correct about only needing to connect the 12V power wire for the brake controller (in addition to connecting the typical trailer light circuits and ground). The reverse light wiring is optional and is really only needed if your trailer has a separate circuit for the reverse lights. We actually created the kit # ETBC7L for people who want...

When wiring up the Bulldog A-frame trailer jack # BD500187 you can use 12 gauge wire such as # 12-1-1 (sold by the foot) as long as the distance from the jack to the battery is less than 20 feet. I am assuming that the battery is located at the front of the trailer near the jack so that shouldn't be a problem. You could use a larger gauge wire such as # 10-1-1 (also sold by the foot) but it is up to you. An inline fuse is not needed because the jack has an internal self-resetting circuit...

  • Troubleshooting Voltage Drop with New Electric Brake Assemblies on Trailer
Some voltage drop off as power travels to each brake assembly on the trailer can be normal (within 1-2 volts of drop), especially if you have a longer trailer . If you are testing the brake output wires right before the assemblies themselves and getting 10.4 volts then this probably isn't an issue. Also make sure when you're testing for voltage that you have the brake controller set to max power and you're using the manual override (not stepping on the brake pedal). Something else that...

  • How to Wire Reverse Lights on a Trailer with a 4-Way Trailer Connector
We do have a solution for you, however, you will not be able to power reverse lights on a trailer with a 4-pin trailer connector. The reverse lights on a trailer must receive power from the reverse lights on the tow vehicle. To do this, you will want to install a 5-pin connector on the trailer and on the tow vehicle. There are many options, but I recommend installing the Hopkins Endurance 5-way Flat Wiring Kit, # HM47890, for a uniform look. You can simply cut off the 4 pin connectors...

To diasable your factory controller, you will have to make a couple of cuts and connections. I've attached and article to assist. • Why is 10 or 12 Gauge Wire Recommended for Electric Brake Assemblies
The reason that 10 Gauge # 10-1-1 or 12 Gauge # 12-1-1 wire is recommended for 10" brake assemblies, like part # AKEBRK-35-SA, is because they pull more power than the lights on your trailer. I believe the green wire you are referring to carries the right turn/stop lighting functions as you can see from the attached photo of a trailer side 4-Way. The 14 and 16 gauge wires are too small for the amount of power needing to get to the brake assemblies and they could potentially get too hot,...

There isn't a custom brake controller wiring harness available for your 1994 Dodge Ram 1500. It is possible that Dodge makes one that will fit your truck but as far as an aftermarket one none are available for the 1994 models. A brake controller would have to be partially hardwired in. Only a 7-way trailer connector will have a 12-volt power wire ran to the connector. A 4-way trailer connector will not have a constant 12-volt power wire. As long as the 12-volt power wire running to the 7-way trailer connector is rated for the amperage required for your 12-volt accessory outlet then yes, you can use this wire for powering the circuit. • Adding Interior Lights to Trailer and Keep Battery Charged
The best way to get interior lights in your trailer is to have a dedicated 12 volt battery, and battery box like # 329-HM318BKS mounted to the trailer. This gives you the power needed while you're not hooked to your truck. For lights I recommend LEDs because they require much less power, and last longer than incandescent bulbs.
