Troubleshooting the Foot Spinning on an Electric Trailer Jack

Updated 12/10/2024 | Published 12/05/2024

Question:

Trailer Jack on camper my electric trailer jack moves around in a circle and makes a knocking noise. At one point I was raising the tongue up and my Anderson WDH triangle plate got caught on the bottom. It pulled hard and I didnt notice until it popped off. Are there gears in there, did I maybe bend something or break a tooth? The trailer still goes up and down, but the foot of the jack goes around in a circle and I get the knocking sound. I dont know if I can fix it or buy new gears, or what? Suggestions?

It sounds like you stripped out something or maybe just broke off a safety tab that keeps the foot from moving around. If it's still going up and down that's a good sign. Which electric jack do you have?

It looks like it's a FIC ETJ3500. It came on a 2022 Forest River Shamrock 233s. I just figured they were pretty much the same on the inside. It does go up and down but kind of rocks back and forth and makes a knocking noise. It didn't do this until after it got hung up on the lip of the bottom when going up

@Rob Thanks for getting back with that information Rob. Those FIC ETJ3500 jacks are hard to source replacement parts for to the point you need to go through the manufacturer, FIC Jack Services 1-877-957-1501. I recommend riding it out for now so long as it's still working unless they have a better option for you. If you decide to replace it our Electric Jack w/ Footplate item # EJ-3520-BBX would be a comparable option.
