Is It Normal For Edge Of L Bracket On Blue Ox 2-Point BLU44XR To Wear A Lot?

Updated 09/19/2024 | Published 12/26/2022

Question:

Hello. Is it normal for the trailer mounted L brackets that hold the spring bars in place to wear? It appears the flats of the spring bars are grindinginch the surface of the L brackets down after a couple thousand miles. I see some minor scraping / shiny metal on the bars where they contact the brackets. The brackets themselves are really wearing though. Is this a setup issue?

Expert Reply:

That is not normal wear for the L-Brackets on your Blue 2-Point # BLU75FR to be that worn. It looks like you have too much angle in the head, so I recommend trying to tilt the L-brackets a little to try and get the bar less on just that one edge, and verify your system is rated correctly for your trailer.

The tilting of the head is used to add tension to the spring bars so it's possible your spring bars are underrated for the tongue weight your using it for.

With all of that said for replacement brackets you'll want to pick up # BLU42QR.

One of my L brackets is showing the same type of wear. My trailer is 2022 Flagstaff Classic 826MBR. My dry tongue weight from the factory is 1065. There’s also a minimal amount of spreading at the base of the L bar. Is this Blue Ox system to light for my rig? Or is my hitch angle off? It doesn’t show me on this correspondence how to send a picture or I would. Thanks

@Bob Send the pics to me at [email protected]. Also what is the part number of the blue ox system you have? I'd also like pictures of the spring bars attached to the trailer if possible so I can see what you have going on exactly.

@SamuelC the hitch is the BLU75FR. I’ll send you a picture of the L Bracket. My trailer is in the shop right now for some extended warranty work. On a level service “only eye balling it” looks good. No up or down, straight in line.
