Question:
Hi. This concerns my Calkins boat trailer, TFY-18-2000, mfg. 7/95. I cant seem to keep the water out of the hubs. Im thinking maybe because the the surface where the axle seal rubs is pitted. I can send pics. Heres more info: Capacity: 2000lbs Hub face: 73-1\8 Bolt pattern: 5 on 4-1\2 Spring center: 59-3\8 No Idler hubs Leaf Springs Axle diameter: 1-7\8 Axle length: 78-1\8 Does Etrailer have options for me? Hi Lowell; since you're looking at # TRU97FR I'm assuming you want to replace the spindle. If it is pitted out where the grease seal rides I would say that is the reason for the water. The replacement spindle will depend on the bearings you have. This BT8 spindle is for # L44643 (1.00" inner diameter) inner and outer bearings. If you have # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) you need a BTR # TRU44FR.
You may be better off replacing the entire axle if you can find one that matches. We do not carry a 2k axle with those measurements so you I would check with an axle manufacturer like Dexter to see if this is something that is available.
You may also want to consider adding Bearing Buddies as well to help keep everything sealed up and protected. The right Bearing Buddy depends on your hub bore measurement. I attached a link to all of our available Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors below which can be filtered by hub bore diameter for your reference.

Hey Lowell, did you end up replacing the spindle or checking with Dexter about a matching axle for your trailer? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with water getting into their hubs.
