Replacement Hub w/ a 5 on 4-1/2 Lug Pattern and L44643 Inner and Outer Bearings

Updated 06/25/2024 | Published 06/09/2024

Question:

Looking for correct hub size for trailer assembly. Have tires with 5-pin 4-1/2 separation between lug 1 edge and lug 3 center. Have a shaft that is 1 diameter by 3 long to mount hub. There is a treaded area beyond the the shaft for a 9/16 castle bolt, washer, and cotter pin assembly Finding that most standard hubs are too deep to fit this narrow shaft. Recommendations appreciated for correct hub fitting

Thanks for the information! If your spindle is 1" diameter that means your old hub uses inner and outer Trailer Hub Bearings item # L44643. This measurement is extremely important because the bearings are sized down to a thousandth of an inch. If you pull your hub you'll see a number stamped onto the side. If yours does not say item # L44643 you don't need the hub I am going to recommend below.

For a replacement idler hub with a 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern, I recommend the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly item # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-1K. This hub has a 2,000 lbs capacity and comes with all bearings, seals, and races you'll need to replace the old ones on your trailer.

Please note the only way to get an accurate measurement off of your spindle is to use a digital caliper like item # PTW80157. If you didn't use one of these to measure your spindle then just look at the numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings. Feel free to email me directly or comment below if you have something other then item # L44643 stamped onto the side.

Hi Jeered, The big problem is the 3"shaft length. Most modern hubs are 4" or so and this is an old axle Any chance for a 3" deep hub kit? Otherwise, I am repacking my 4-pin hub and buying new tires to fit the old hubs.

@CG No, I am sorry there isn't going to be a modern replacement for what you have.
