Yes I recommend upgrading your tow package on your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15312.This trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation and has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity up to 16,000 pounds. This hitch will also have the standard 2 inch by 2 inch receiver head. Though the Curt hitch is rated up to 16,000 pounds yow can only tow up to what your Silverado can handle, you will be able to find the recommend towing capacity of your vehicle in the vehicle's manual. You could also purchase a weight distribution hitch and not install a new trailer hitch at all. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-1200 will help you with sway when towing your new 10,000 pound trailer. I like this weight distribution hitch over the others because it has an integrated 2-point sway control that limits side to side movement.
When upgrading the trailer hitch you will also need to upgrade the ball mount. The Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45341 would work perfect with the hitch listed above. You also need the 2 inch hitch ball # A-90 or the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball # BWHB94004. You will be able to lock the ball mount to the hitch using the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98881.
If you have any further questions please feel free to reach back out to me anytime and I would be more than happy to further assist you in your future towing endeavors.
