Safety Chain S-Hook that Can be Used with Curt Hitch # C15312

Published 04/09/2024

Question:

Hello, I purchased this hitch C15312 to replace my rusted factory unit on my 2007 Chevy HD2500 classic with 6 1/2 bed crew cab 6.0 gas engine. This hitch was overkill for my application but was on sale and quickly available when I purchased it from etrailer in 2020. one thing I never got adapted properly was the hooksinch on the safety chains on my boat trailer. I had to remove them as the hitch has very substantial metal where the hooks clip on. the thickness of the metal is not a problem but rather the width of the opening?? hard to explain. the opening of the hooks , as in the mouthinch if you will, is not big enough to fit on the hitch. can you recommend safety hooks that fit this hitch? or some other options to easily connect my safety chains to this hitch. I dont need the entire set up. the chain I have is in perfect condition. I just need hooks that fit this hitch. any help would be appreciated. Greg

Hey Greg, as someone who's towed quite a bit and had to deal with safety chains I know exactly what you are talking about. The hooks just don't quite fit and it feels like trying to fit a circle into a square. The Curt S-Hook part # C81830 should work for you as it has an opening that is 3/4 of an inch and was designed for heavier duty hitches like what you have.
