Question:

Might be a dumb question…I didn’t want to mount my wiring/trailer lights/brake connector bracket to the truck bumper so I use the provided self taps and screwed into the receiver. Will this weaken it or void the warranty? Thanks!

Putting self-tapping screws into the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15312 for your 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 won't weaken it but I can't speak to the warranty part. I would think that something that small would be a non-issue unless for some reason your modification was a bit extreme and actually damaged the integrity of the hitch itself.

With all of that being said, the good news is that you can use the Curt No-Drill Bracket # C57202 and Hopkins Mounting Bracket # HM48625 to avoid drilling into the frame at all! The Curt bracket uses a hose clamp that secures around the crosstube of the hitch and gives you an easy way to then mount the 7-Way next to your hitch receiver.
