When it comes to installing a brake controller in your 2022 Ram Promaster 3500 the first thing you will need is The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7.
This kit is designed for use on your vehicle with an existing 4-way trailer connector. It will plug directly into your 4 way and make it to where you could either run a 7 round plug or a 4 flat plug. There will be 4 additional wires that you will have to use to activate your brakes the following functions of the 4 wires is below:
Black - 12 Volt Hot Lead
Blue - Electric Brake
White - Ground
Yellow - Reverse Lights
If you have an extra-long vehicle you can make your installation easier by using The Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV - 10 Gauge # C57186.
When it comes to picking the brake controller I recommend The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 2 Braking Modes - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR. This controller has a nice clean look to it where only the control knob is mounted on your dash and the main unit is installed in an out-of-the-way spot. The main unit works no matter what positioning it is in.
The controller has two different braking modes available, and has a 3-axis accelerometer that measures the deceleration in all directions for precise braking and for smooth, uniform stopping. It also allows for a fast and easy adjustment of braking power with just a turn of the dial.
