Replacement Trailer Brakes and Hub/Drums For a 1973 Airstream Argosy 26D Travel Trailer

Updated 05/31/2022 | Published 05/28/2022

Question:

I need to replace the original electric brakes on a 1973 Airstream Argosy 26 D. The wheels have 6 lugs. Everything is original, so I would like some advice as to what needs replacement and how much will it cost? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

With the limited information available on your 1973 Airstream Argosy 26 D I do recommend verifying the following parts are the same size as what you currently have(see images).

The Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA fits a drum that is 10" in diameter and 2-1/4" wide braking surface. It mounts to a 4 bolt flange and the bolt holes are vertically and horizontally separated 2-7/8" on center.

The Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. It uses an Inner bearing # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter), Outer bearing # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) and Grease Seal # 58846 (1.719" inner diameter). You can use a Digital Caliper # PTW80157 to verify the measurements on your spindle(see image).

If you find that you have different measurements, please let me know what you find so I can determine the correct brakes and hubs for your Airstream.
