Question:
I have a three horse sundowner trailer i need to replace the brakes on. are the brakes mostly universal just go by diameter and width

Expert Reply:
They are generally pretty universal. You want to check to see how many bolts there are on the brake flange, get overall diameter and the overall thickness of the shoes.
For instance the very popular Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA is a left and right assembly that is 10" in diameter and has shoes 2-1/4" wide. These assemblies use the four bolt brake flange.
I've included the installation video of them we made if you want to check it out.
If you have a different size brake assembly let me know and I'm happy to help you match it up.
