Question:
Good afternoon, My car is a 2012 Hyundai Elantra Sedan. U-Hall installed a Curt #11303 hitch no wiring, just the hitch on it and Ive been having a rattling noise emanating from the muffler area every time I accelerate or break. They told me that they cannot do anything about it. I also discovered they have mounted the hitch using The Coupeinch model mounting holes instead of the Sedan mounting holes. My question is, would having the hitch installed using the wrong mounting holes will affect my car frame and the hitch performance? Also, what should I do if the rattling noise persist even after using the right mounting holes? PS: In the attached picture, the front of the car is to the left. The rear bumper and hitch are on the right. I really appreciate your help and valuable time.

The Curt Trailer Hitch # C11303 is designed to fit your 2012 Elantra. The installation instructions are attached you can check out to verify the correct mounting holes. We only offer a Curt hitch for the Touring hatchback as well. That hitch is part # C11471.
I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to deal with noise from the exhaust rattling against a trailer hitch.
If you find the trailer hitch is installed using the incorrect holes you can order replacement hardware by typing # RHK in the search box on our website. This is recommended because trailer hitch hardware is designed to only be used one time. After you enter # RHK then enter the hitch number and manufacturer in the appropriate boxes. When ordered, we will assemble the hardware kit.

I have the same model hitch on the same Elantra sedan. It doesn’t fit right! There is no way to get it far enough forward to use the holes that they say are for the sedan. And the bolt for the tow loop is too short. And it’s pinned against the muffler so rattles like crazy. Very poor design on this one!
