Compatibility of a Hitch for a 1972 Chevrolet K Series Truck

Updated 02/23/2017 | Published 02/22/2017

Question:

Do you have a schematic for the Curt 15511? I think it will work for my aplication. 1972 K5 Blazer with 34 inch frame rails. It has been modified and lifted. On the data page for the 15511 it lists the as 7inch but there is a chart in the question section that lists the top of mount to top of tube as 8.03. Again, what I see and the measurements in that chart, I think it will work nicely. A shematic would be helpfull though.

The Curt # C15511 hitch is the confirmed fit for a 1972 Chevrolet K Series truck if you have the 8 foot bed and the deep drop rear bumper.

The measurement from the top of the tube to the mounting flange is 8-1/32 inches. The extended length was to make sure the hitch would clear the bumper.

If you have the standard bumper, then the Curt Hitch # C14082 is the confirmed fit. If # C15511 can be installed on the standard bumper model, then there will be a large gap between the bumper and the top of the hitch.

Now since you have a lift kit installed, I am guessing that you are worried about the height of the hitch compared to the height of your trailer. You could use an adjustable ball mount like # FA42-00-2800. This ball mount has an 8 inch drop and a 9 inch rise and includes both a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch ball.

I have attached an article on choosing the correct ball mount and a photo of the different bumpers available on your year vehicle.
