Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Wheel For A 2000 Big Tex 22GN Tandem Axle Dump Trailer
Hey David, 16" x 6.5" wheels are typically for vehicle use and not trailer so I would double check that you really have those size wheels. 16" x 6" wheels with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern are much more common. What is the tire size and load range listed on the sidewall of the tires? The load range rating will be a single letter and is typically on the opposite side of the tire size. If you want to send me some pictures or just comment back with the size and load range I'd be happy to...

  • Options For Replacing Dextar 017-175 Offset Wheel
We do have a potential option for you. Unfortunately the only 16.5" x 6.75" rim we carry has no offset. The closest thing to your 17-157 rim is going to be the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783. This will have the same bolt pattern, offset and pilot hole diameter as your current wheel. The only difference is that this is a 16" rim instead of a 16.5.

  • Spare Tire/Wheel For A 2003 International Harvester 4400 MD Truck
I can certainly point you in the right direction. We do not have literature that will tell us wheel specs based on a year make and model of truck. Provided the wheels currently on your 2003 International Harvester 4400 MD are a 16" x 6" dual wheel with an 8 on 6-1/2" lug pattern you will have two options. You will want to measure the pilot hole of one of the rims currently on your motorhome to determine which one will work for you. 4.75 Pilot Hole - Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset item...

  • Will Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset Work as Spare for 2017 Jayco Redhawk
It is possible the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783 you looked at will fit but we don't have specific wheel information to confirm it. You would need to compare the size, bolt pattern, offset, and pilot diameter to see if it matches. This is a 16 x 6 rim with an 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern. It has a 5.5" offset and a 4.75" pilot hole diameter. It is also worth noting that this is designed/rated for trailers not for a motorized vehicle. The same is true for all of the wheels we carry.

  • Torque for Lug Nuts of Taskmaster Steel Dual Trailer Wheel # AM20783
I attached a chart that has all of the lug nut torque figures for trailer wheels for you to check out. Basically it depends on the style of lug nuts and if they have rotating flange washers. Most likely it's right at 200 ft lbs but if you do not have rotating flanges you'd need between 275 and 325 ft lbs.

  • Difference Between Dexstar Dual Wheel Part # AM20783 and Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel Part # LHHA420
The Dexstar Dual Wheel part # AM20783 and the Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel part # LHHA420 are two very similar wheels with a few key differences. They are both 16" diameter x 6" wide wheels with a 8 on 6-1/2" lug pattern. However, the Lionshead wheel has a 3,500 lb weight capacity whereas the Dexstar wheel only has a 3,100 lb weight capacity. Another noticeable difference is that the Dexstar wheel is made in the U.S.A. and the Lionshead wheel is not. In order to install either wheel you will...

  • Replacement Trailer Wheels with 4.75 Pilot Hole Diameter
We carry rims with a 4.75 pilot hole, like # LHHA420, and # AM20783, however they're both for dual wheel applications and have an offset. Using a wheel with a 4.75 or 4.77 pilot will be just fine since there's such a small difference. It's likely the measured hole is the same just estimated on the 4.75.

  • Looking For Replacement For Ford OEM Wheel Part # 8C2Z-1015-G
Hello Jeremy. We do have the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783 which is a 16" wheel with a 5.5" offset and the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern just like the 8C2Z-1015-G wheel. The # AM20783 wheel has a 4.75" pilot hole. I did not see the pilot diameter for the 8C2Z-1015-G wheel listed online so please do measure one of your wheels and make sure the 4.75" pilot is correct.

  • Will 4.75 Pilot Hole Fit with 4.75 Hub for the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783
Generally if the hub has studs on it then it is stud piloted but if you secure the wheel to the hub using bolts then it is hub piloted. Since you are using dual wheels it changes things a little bit. The Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783 that you referenced is designed to fit on a dual wheel setup that is hub piloted. This means that the studs come through the back side of the hub and extend through both wheels and you use a 5/8" flange nut, like part # 95188, to secure it. Hub...

  • Recommended 16" x 6" Dually Trailer Wheel
To replace your 16" x 6" dually trailer wheel, I recommend the Vesper Steel Dual Trailer Wheel item # TA56FR. This wheel has a 3,860 lbs capacity, a 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern, and a 4.77" pilot diameter. I wasn't able to get any specifics off of the information you gave me regarding the pilot hole so you'll need to take a measurement of one of your other wheels to determine if this is the one you need. The pilot hole on a wheel is the big center hole right in the middle of the wheel....

Pilot diameter on a wheel like our dually trailer wheel part # AM20783 that you referenced is basically the diameter of the center hole of the wheel. These wheels are both constructed of steel. I am not aware of any aluminum dual trailer wheels so steel will be your only option.
