Question:
Im NEW to TOWING and have a new vehicle: JUST Learned that wiring harnesses are car model specific... ~ Are the car end connectors car model specific also? I need a Trailer wiring harness for a 2015 Honda CR-V EX that will terminate to multi connector with a round 7 blade socket AND STANDARD 4 way? or is it 4 pole? Trailer Connector not adaptor. We are wanting the flexibility of the two connection types for towing either type of camper or Trailer. I watched your wiring video and am wondering how I get the wire from the rear light assembly down to the connector without going through the door hatch, which will mount to the underside of the vehicle... or does the connector mount to the hitch? Please send me links for the wiring harness and the connector that I need. Thanks PS. Thanks for the videos

For your 2015 Honda CR-V, I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118561. This wiring harness will plug into the existing factory wiring in your CR-V, as you've seen in the installation videos. The connectors that plug into the vehicle wiring are vehicle specific. The vehicle end trailer connectors are standard. This wiring harness will provide you with a 4-way flat, also known as a 4-pole, connector. In order to have the 4-way and 7-way harness, you will also need a brake controller and # ETBC7 kit.
The 4-way connector from your wiring harness can be routed underneath your CR-V. You will want to find a grommet in the spare tire storage area. The grommet will need to be large enough to feed the 4-way connector through.
The # ETBC7 kit will connect to the wiring harness' 4-way. The black and blue wires for the 7-way connector will need to be ran to the front of the vehicle using the kit's duplex wire, and the white wire from the trailer connector will be grounded. The purple wire for the trailer reverse lights will splice into the truck's reverse light wire or taped up if it will not be used. The blue wire will be run inside the vehicle and connected to the brake controller if your trailer has electric brakes. The black wire will go to the engine compartment, connect to a circuit breaker, the to the positive post on the vehicle's battery. To run the wires inside your vehicle, you will need to drill a hole in the firewall for the wires to be run through. In the video, they use a snap bushing grommet # SWC8057 in this hole once it is drilled.
The 7-way trailer connector is generally used on trailer with electric brakes. Using the trailer's brakes requires a brake controller. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The pigtail connector for this brake controller will need to be hardwired to your vehicle. The red wire will be connected to the stoplight wire on the back of your brake pedal, the blue wire will be connected to the blue wire from the trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle, the white wire will be grounded, and the black 12 V power wire will connect to the battery.
I have attached a video showing the installation of the # ETBC7 kit and Prodigy P2 # 90885 and the installation video of the wiring harness # 118561 on a 2014 CR-V for you. I have also linked a help article on installing a brake controller, and an article on installing an # ETBC7 kit.
While doing some research to answer your question, I noticed in the 2015 CR-V's owner's manual that the towing capacity of your vehicle is 1,500 pounds. This is something important to keep in mind when deciding what trailers or cargo you want to pull behind your CR-V.
