Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting Round Trailer Axles

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer. You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding. Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.

They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here. Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster. As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.

You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that. We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts. Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible. And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

  • Recommended Parts for Rebuild/Upgrade of Harbor Freight Trailer
The Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,200 lbs # 20545I-EZ-60-15 is a great starting point to upgrade your trailer. This will give you a standard size axle with good bearings, hubs, and EZ-lube spindles. This is far nicer than the weird sized stuff that comes on Harbor Freight trailers. The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31994 will be a great addition to these hubs and...

Hello David, thanks for reaching out. I can't weld either, at least not well lol. We do have a bolt on hanger kit, the CE Smith Spring Hanger Bracket Kit # CES22QR which works with 1-3/4" wide slipper springs. Then for a U-Bolt kit you can use part # CE23000 which is for a 1-3/4" round axle. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

  • Do You Have a 2" Wide 4 Leaf Spring for a 2,990lbs Axle on My Trailerman Single Axle Trailer?
Hello Brett, I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time finding this leaf spring. We do not have anything that is rated that low in a 2" wide. In fact we only have 2 different leaf springs in 2" wide and neither are even a double eye. Your best bet is going to be to swap out your hangers to a 1 3/4" like the Single-Axle Trailer Hangers for Double-Eye Springs - 1-1/2" Front, 7/8" Rear # DX44CR, then you would be able to use the # DX83CR. I know that you mentioned that yours...

  • Looking For Axle For Boat Trailer With Hubs And Springs
Hello Don, thanks for reaching out. We do offer an axle with a 72" hub face in both a 2,000 lb capacity and 2,200 lb capacity. The spring seats on our axles are at 58" so you would have to have new spring seats welded on at 61". For example, the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e37YR has a 72" HF, 58" SC and it comes with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs. Then we offer loose spring seats as part # TRSS175. Then for new U-bolts use part # CE23000. We have leaf springs for 2,000 lb axles like part...

It is possible to replace your 62" long axle with a longer one. Our next size up is going to be a 72" long 2K rated axle like part # e32GR. The axle being 72" across measured from hub-face to hub-face. This axle comes with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs, which will allow for a ton of tire/wheel combos. In order to use our axle you would likely need to relocate the spring seats. We sell them individually with part # TRSS175. From the looks of things, you would need a new u-bolt kit # CE23000 as...

You will need 2 of the Zinc Shackle Bolts # TRFA73Z916DLNZ to attach the leaf springs to the front hanger. If you can tell what shape and size axle you have I can help you find the U-Bolt Kit you need. We have some like the 1-1/2" Square # CE23102 or 1-3/4" Round # CE23000 depending on the size of your axle.

  • Replacement U-Bolt Kit for Mounting Axle on FLOE Pro 100 Snowmobile Trailer
I'm assuming you mean a U-bolt kit to mount your axle to the leaf springs on your FLOE Pro 100 snowmobile trailer. The correct kit will depend on your capacity/axle diameter. If you have a 2k axle that uses hubs like the # 34822545BX you were looking at then you would need the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23000. This fits your standard 2k axle with a 1-3/4" diameter. If you have a 3,500 lb axle with a 2-3/8" diameter you would need the # CE23002. If you have a different axle diameter, or...

This axle has as spring center to spring center measurement of 58" and a hub face to tub face of 72". You will need to have new Spring Seat # TRSS175 welded on to the axle as your current axle is an over slung axle and this axle is designed to be under slung. • Replacement Trailer Axle For 5' X 8' Ironton Trailer With 15" Diameter Wheels and Tires
Based on the Dimensions of the 5'x8' Ironton trailer you are most likely to need the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e37YR. This axle places the hub faces at 72" which is 6 inches wider than the bed size of your utility trailer. The spring center to spring center is 58" and if this does not exactly match your trailer you can weld 2 new Seats # TRSS175 on the axle. I have an option that will work for you, but we don't sell any 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" square axles. We do have the 2,000lb # e37YR which has a hub face measurement of 72" which will push your wheels out 1/2" on each side which isn't a big deal, and has the same 58" spring seat spacing so it'll fit your frame perfectly. This comes with hubs that have the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, but it's available with the 4 on 4" bolt pattern also as # e62YR. As this is a 1-3/4" round axle you'll need...

For a leaf spring the etrailer spring part # e66SR would work great. This is a 2,500 lb axle leaf spring. Then for a hanger kit the # APS2 would be what you would want. It comes with hangers, shackles, bolts, etc. I don't know what axle diameter you have though so picking out a u-bolt kit would be a little more challenging. Most likely it is a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle though and would require the kit part # CE23000.

  • U-Bolt Kit for Smaller Round Axle on Jet Ski Trailer
It could just be the angle but looking at the picture you attached it appears that you have a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle. This would be consistent too with the smaller 2,000 pound axles that are typically on jet ski trailers like what you have. I do recommend verifying this measurement once more but if this is indeed the case then you can use the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23000 which features U-Bolts with an inner width of 1-7/8 inches and galvanized plates to resist any rust or corrosion....

  • How to Choose the Best Tires, Wheels and Axle for a Homemade Jet Ski Trailer
Finding the ideal tires, wheels and axles for your trailer will depend heavily on the overall weight of the trailer. For example, a jet-ski can weigh as little as 400-500 lbs on the light end and around 1,000 lbs on the heavy end. You must also consider the weight of the trailer itself sitting on the axles. Also, keep in mind that if the axle is positioned properly, the tongue of the trailer should hold about 10 percent of the total weight. For example, let's assume that your jet-skis...

  • Is a 2,000LB Axle With Hub Face Measurement of 70.5" a Commonly Found Size?
This is not a common axle size. The Axle # e32GR is going to be our closest to your current axle. This axle has a 72" hub face with spring center of 58". You may be able to use this axle if you have the clearance for your tires to be moved out 3/4" on each side of your trailer. The current spring seats can be cut off and 2 new Seats # TRSS175 can be welded on at the 59" spring center you have. A U-Bolt Kit # CE23000 will allow you to attach this axle to your current leaf springs.

  • Will U-Bolt Mounting Kit for 1-3/4 Inch Diameter Axles Fit 2 Inch Diameter Axles
The U-bolts on a kit like # CE23000 would not fit on a true 2" diameter axle. The inner width is 1-7/8" which would be just enough to fit on a 1-3/4" diameter axle. I recommend measuring your axle again, or measuring the inner width of your old U-bolts. Your typical 2" axle would be a square axle, and more than likely you actually have a 1-3/4" axle. Your round axle is going to have a 1-3/4" or 2-3/8" diameter. If you find that it is actually 2-3/8" you would need the # CE23002 instead.

Every axle has a slight upward bend in it at the middle so that as weight is added the axle straightens out instead of bowing down. More than likely it is the standard 1-3/4" and not 1-5/8". You will need to have a certified welder add a spring seat on top of the axle on either side using # TRSS175.
