The hitch is very well built. Pretty easy to install. If you aren’t too familiar with taking off bumper fascia, use a second pair of hands, so you don’t scratch it. The final result looks good, most of the hitch is hidden nicely. The wiring kit was decent a little too short of a T connection. Would have been nice to have more length between the Curt harness connections on both the left and right sides.
The product was exactly as I expected, and it was easy to install with the supplied instructions. Plus, the hidden hitch looks good. The final look matched the website description.

Nice job on the install James. The hitch looks like it came with the vehicle. Now the real question is, what are you using it for!?
This was orderd for a 2024 Subaru Outback. I had just changed the hydrologic drive belt on a ZT lawnmower, and the installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver was by far the easier of the two tasks. The videos combined with the instruction sheet were very helpful. I really appreciate the included 2 fishing wires for the installation. It could be helpful if they would also include a drawn to scale printed template to use for the small section of the fascia that needs to be trimmed/cut.
Placed the order on Sunday afternoon, reciced an email that the order had been processed and the item was ready for shipping that same day. Hitch arrived on Wednesday. My wife is very pleased with her birthday present. Thank you to all the team etrailer!
The hitch seems very heavy duty and installed according to directions…. Was very pleased with how everything worked and lined up however, if it was just 2 1/2 inches higher, it would be nearly identical to the factory hitch and give even more ground clearance! And then for the price I would’ve given it six stars??
It is hard to justify spending $550 on the factory hitch just for an additional 2 1/2 inches
Just done with install, I’ve had some experience with the front bumper on a 99’ and found this install straight forward. The videos nailed it, shipping was super fast and emails with each step. I think a strap or something to help the hitch from sliding around in the box would benefit the handlers, box had forklift fork holes and part of the hitch was outside the box(no damage and it’s behind the bumper) All in all would use e trailer again and recommend, looks nice installed
etrailer is excellent as an online retailer for auto parts. I’m disappointed that my Curt hitch didn’t precisely line up with the holes on my base model 2020 Subaru Outback. I had to make slight refinements to the factory holes with a dremel. The videos show a higher trim model than mine, so I’m guessing that maybe this was the issue. It was close enough, but slightly annoying.
The hitch installation on my 2021 Subaru Outback XT took about 45 minutes. I watched the install video, gathered the required tools and got to work. Everything went together perfectly. So glad I installed the hitch myself.

After a year of use the hitch on my Outback is still looking and functioning like the day it was installed.
Installed easily and took just under 2 hours to install. Will say video is very helpful but it does leave out the hardest to reach bolt which is the one next to the exhaust, need to hold it to the side while tightening the bolt.

Thanks for your transparency on what your experience was like! The photos are great, too.
Super easy instal on the Outback Wilderness. About an hour and a half. Don’t have to take off the the exhaust.
This is my second hitch from etrailer. I have a different car and needed to attach a new hitch for using a 1UPUSA bike rack. This Curt hitch installed easily on a Subaru 2025 Outback. I took my time and from start to finish was about 3.5 hours and this was at a slow pace not rushing anything. I did the work alone.
A few tips are 1) use deep well sockets 2) you will need an 11/16 socket for the flange nut that fastens to the M10 bolt that uses the fish wire 3) the muffler hanger came off easily with a spray of plain water 4) I thought about using blue Loctite on all the fasteners, but did not. I torqued to the specs in the instruction sheet. Torque specs for dry and wet threads are different and could not find a definitive source that I felt comfortable using. 5) I had to tighten the hitch very snug to the rear car frame with the 6 bolts (3 on each side) so the M10 carriage bolt on the fish wire would properly pass through the hitch and frame so the flange nut could be threaded on. If not snug enough, the M10 carriage bolt would not make it through the frame. Once they were tighened the carriage bolt made it through fine. I loosened all 6 bolts after I had the carriage bolt fully seated in place with the flange nut. 6) I had to loosen the brake lights on both sides so that the fascia would come off easily. I only had to loosen the light housings and that gave me about another 1-2mm of play and that was all that was needed. 7) I am using the hitch for a 1UPUSA bike rack. There is plenty of clearance between the rack and bumper when the bike rack is in the 'not used' position. 8) I watched the installation videos for the Curt hitch and the matching etrailer hitch a couple of times as there are little things in each presentation that helped with the install.
I did this solo and without a lift, and it was not difficult. Etrailer has great support and I am sure I will be a return customer when the need arises.

Hi Rick, thank you for such a detailed review on your installation experience. You provided a lot of great tips for future customers that may be on the fence about if they can install this hitch on their own or not. Now for the fun stuff, when do you plan on hitting the trails?
The video I watched before I installed the hitch was extremely helpful. The included instructions for the cutout were acurate and the end result wad what I was hoping for.
Super easy to install. Installation v ideo is a must as the paper instructions leave a little to be desired. This is either the 3rd or 4th car I have installed this company’s products. All have top of the line.
The product is well made. It was heavier than I expected. The installation on my 2021 Subaru went very smoothly. Between the instructions that came with the product and the Video of how to install it on the product page there was no way I could make a mistake. And the final result was perfect. Overall the process of getting and installing this hitch was excellent
Watched the videos ahead of time to weigh the installation options, those are well done and show the entire procedure so you can review install procedures in addition to the hitch features. Chose the Curt based on the ease of install procedures. The hitch was well packed with nothing poking out of the box upon arrival, hardware taped to the hitch so it does not get thrown away by mistake, and the instructions were correct. A+ for etrailer.
Just opened. Looks great. Shop installed. Hitch was per directions. Wiring harness plug to subaru was not where it was supposed to be according to the directions. 3rd hitch from etrailer. Keep coming back when I get a different vehicle..
5 stars, so far. The hitch seems well made and fit perfectly on my 2025 Outback. The included instructions were fine, but not great. i didn't downgrade for that because there are plenty of resources online to help with installation. Etrailer offers videos, and a large national trailer rental company also has really nice instructional videos for installing hitches and wiring harnesses. Installation was rated as difficult, but it's not too bad with good instructions, proper tools, and a little mechanical aptitude. Time will tell how the hitch and finish hold up.
Well made. Good etrailer video showing how to install. Works perfectly with bike rack.
The hitch was a custom fit, and it is made in America. I ordered it on a Sunday night, and I had it by Thursday afternoon. I live in a semi-rural area, so UPS is usually a little slower by a day. But it got to me in one piece!
It was a little harder for me to install myself, so I took it to my mechanic because he has a lift. Really nice hitch.
Arrived on time, and met all expectations. Installation video is excellent. Took less than 2 hours. Only issue was reinstalling the fascia panel, which took a few attempts to get it right.
Arrived very quick. Time consuming process but not difficult. Online video was helpful. A second person is not necessary but makes it easier. Dimensions for the trim cut out are accurate but the picture does not tell you exactly where to start your cut. I prefer a measurement vs "looks like you start cutting about here". Measure twice, cut once.
purchased a similar one for my previous outback and that one held up very well. I have a bike rack that requires a 2" receiver. and may look into getting a kayak trailer. Love that you only see the receiver.
Straightforward installation instructions and took me less than 2 hours to install. Close to OEM receiver style at a third of the cost that is great for a bike rack and light towing.
Always have had great experience with etrailer purchases in the past and this was no different. Videos for installation were spot on and very helpful.
Receiver hitch was just as described and came in a timely fashion. Sturdy and well made.
This will be my 3rd hitch from Etrailer and as always fast shipping. I had it installed in about an hour. Will definitely come back when it’s time
