Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

  • How to Determine Correct Tire Pressure for Trailer Tire
In this instance, the tire pressure should be maintained at 65 PSI. Unlike tires on a passenger vehicle that might have an acceptable range of tire pressures, trailer tires should always be ran at the maximum pressure listed on the tire sidewall. Running the tires at a lower pressure would cause heat build-up, which over time will make your tires wear out more quickly. Decreasing the pressure will also decrease the load capacity of the tire. If you click the provided link, you can see...

  • Smallest Diameter Trailer Tire with At Least 1,800 Pounds Capacity and Parts for Building a Trailer
Assuming the trailer is as single axle and only has two tires the smallest we carry is a 205/75-14 size tire. The Kenda # AM10235 measures 26.3 inches in diameter and has a weight capacity of 2,200 pounds at 75 psi. You also want to make sure the wheel has enough capacity. If you can tell me your bolt pattern I can recommend a wheel as well.

  • Can a Load Range C Tire Be Replaced with a Load Range D Tire
Yes, you can replace your load range C tires with load range D tires without issue. It will only become any issue when you go down load ranges, not up. The tires will have the same overall diameter as long as they are the same size regardless of their load range. If you are looking for a recommendation on a 205/75-14 tire I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10235. This tire has a radial construction which is better for long highway hauls, a load range D rating...

  • Determining If 14 Wheels On Trailer Can Be Replaced With 15 Wheels
I would be happy to help! You do not need to change your hubs to upgrade from 14" wheels to 15" wheels, you will just need to make sure your trailer has enough clearance to fit the larger tires that are used on 15" wheels. The Westlake ST225/75R15 # LHWL304 you were looking at measure 28.3" tall by 8.8" wide so you will need to compare that to the dimensions of your current 14" tire. If your trailer currently has the ST205/75R14 like the # AM10235 then the tire is 26.3" tall and 8.1"...

  • What Tire Size Can You Replace a 205/75 R-14 Tire With
Hey Jim, you could also use the 215/75-14 if they have those in stock. We do have the exact size you're looking for in stock with # AM10235 but you wouldn't be able to pick it up same day. Out of curiosity, what kind of trailer do you have? If you need anything else, please feel free to let me know as well in the comments!

  • Best Load Range D ST205/75-14 Trailer Tire
For a load range D ST205/75-14 tire I recommend # AM10235. It is rated for 2,200 pounds at 75 psi. And it is rated for 81 miles per hour. We don't carry any Hankook trailer tires at this time. Make sure that you always inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires to handle more vertical load. If under inflated that thicker sidewall will generate excessive heat and can cause premature...

  • Is There a Recommended psi for Travel Trailer Tires?
As long as your tires have the right capacity and fit going from a tire with a max psi of 65 to a max psi of 75 will not make any difference. You always want to keep your tires inflated to the max psi in order to get the best performance from your tire and maintain its load capacity.

  • Are Load Range G Tires Necessary for 5,800 Pound Trailer
Your boat and trailer are 5,800 pounds combined. Load range G tires are generally rated for up to 3,000 pounds each at the least, many well over 4,000 pounds depending on the tire size. In short, G isn't necessary although there's no harm in it either. The only American made tires we carry are from Goodyear and we currently only carry a few sizes, none of which will work for you because they are all 15 or 16 inch. We have the Kenda Karrier part # AM10235 for a size 205/75-14 radial...

  • Can Goodyear Tire be Mounted to Lionshead Liger Aluminum Trailer Wheel?
Hey Keith, thanks for reaching out! In order to get the Gunmetal Gray Aluminum Liger Trailer Wheel # LH84FR fit with a Goodyear Endurance tire you'll have to purchase the wheel and tire separately and then have a tire shop mount them for you. We unfortunately dropped the Goodyear brand of trailer tires so the kit # LH55VR you found is just residually left on our site. The Goodyear brand is still making the tires though, so if you want that combination, it's still possible! If you aren't...

  • Recommended Tires for Pop-Up Camper
The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 would be an excellent radial tire for your camper. We also have the Loadstar ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST86 which, like your original tires, is a diagonal bias tire. The bias ply tire has a slightly lower weight rating (1,760 lbs at 50 psi). I usually recommend using a radial tire over a bias tire. Because of the construction of a radial tire, the tire has more flex and will allow for more ground contact. That will improve...

  • Availability of Galvanized Wheel and ST205-75R14 Tire With Load Rating of D
In order to meet all of your requirements you would need to get the tires and wheels separately and have them mounted. The 205/75R14, load range D radial tire we offer is the Kenda Karrier # AM10235. This tire, which has a weight capacity of 2,200 lbs, is among the highest rated we carry, with nearly 500 reviews giving it a near-unanimous 5 stars. For a wheel to go with it, I recommend taking a look at the Americana Steel Mini Mod # AM20364, which is galvanized, measures 14" diameter x...

  • Best 14 Inch Trailer Tires for an 8,000 Pound Tandem Axle Trailer
The load range tire you use will depend on how many axles the trailer has and the size needed. If you are just replacing tires and not the wheels as well then I just need to know the size indicated on the tire sidewall. If you are replacing the tires and the wheels then in addition to the size I will need to know the bolt pattern of the wheels. I have included a link below to our help articles on determining wheel bolt pattern and trailer tires.

  • What Does Tire Size G78-14 Convert into Current Trailer Tire Sizes
The G78-14 trailer tire that you have converts to a ST205/75-14 tire in today's trailer tire sizes. A trailer tire like the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D, # AM10235, is the tire I recommend for replacing your current tire. This tire will fit a 14 inch rim diameter that measure 5, 5-1/2, 6, and 6-1/2 width. This Kenda Karrier tire has a load range of D with a maximum load of 2040 lbs at 65 psi. The Karrier comes with a 2-year limited warranty.

  • Can Load Range D Trailer Tire Size ST205/75R14 Replace Tires on 2015 R-Pod Model 178
We have a Load Range D trailer tire in size ST205/75R14 as part # AM10235. This tire will fit easily on your current rim since this is the same size as what you have. It actually requires 75 psi which we have the valve stem part # AM20904 which is rated for 80 psi that you could use with it. Your valve stems will get replaced when you take the wheel to a tire shop to have the tires mounted. Most likely they'd have the correct valve stem, but if not the # AM20904 will also work.

The Westlake ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # LHAW121 that you referenced is an excellent choice to replace your 7.00 x 14 LT tires. Hey Christopher, in the tire size of 205/75-14 the highest Load Rating we offer is the D rating that you already seem to have found with the part # AM10235. All of our tires at this time are made in China unfortunately but we have had really good luck with the Karrier brand. I wouldn't refer to them as a CHINA BOMB at all.

  • Availability Of Tamarack ST205/75R15 Trailer Tire
Hello William, thanks for reaching out. At this time we only carry the Tamarack ST205/75R15 trailer tire as a pre mounted tire and wheel combo part # CR39ZR. This comes on an aluminum 5 on 4-1/2" wheel. I am sorry to say we do not offer that specific tire by itself. • Do ST205/75R14 Trailer Tire Load Rating Mean Tires Can Handle That Amount
Hello Kent, Yes, that's correct; and while we don't have those Goodyear Endurance, for example the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10235 have a 2,200 lb capacity so their 4,400 lb combined rating means the tires themselves are rated for up to 4,400 lbs of trailer weight. Keep in mind the combined rating of all trailer tires should at least meet (and ideally exceed) the GVWR of your trailer.

Plus, this tire has a 1-year worry-free guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way, it will be replaced at no charge.

  • What 14 Inch Tires For Aristocrat Land Commander
Hi Crystal, Definitely smart to change from the passenger tires you have now, and the right tire is going to depend on the clearance you have and the overall size of the rim. If you have 14" x 5", 14" x 5-1/2", 14" x 6", or 14" x 6-1/2" rims a good option could be the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235. Hey Dana, it would be in your best interest to go with a slightly narrower tire size than what you have with the 205/75-14 like the part # AM10235. This will do a great job on your trailer and also would prevent the rubbing. I would assume this is the size your trailer had on it prior.

Hello Robert. I may have a potential option for you, but we do not offer any tires on the 205/75D13 size. We do have some 205/75-14 such as part # AM10235 if that is something you can use. As far as 13" tires, the closest thing we offer are 175/80-13 like part # AM10210. These will be considerably smaller than your 205/75/D13 tires so depending on your application this may not work for you.
