Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

My camper had Westlakes on it when bought new, 5 years later I looked for an upgrade and all the "China Bomb" comments everywhere and even American had some negatives. I had no problem with my Westlakes for 5 years therefore I was my best reference and bought another set of Westlakes but moved up to D rated vice the C rated that came with the trailer. I have absolutely no complaints with these. 754895

Found a match for our existing trailer tires on the website and it was shipped out the next day. Had it at the house in just a few days. Also took advantage of a few other items to be eligible for the free shipping. Didn't know an anti-wobble receiver hitch device existed, I wish I would have found that years ago. I'll definitely bookmark etrailer's web page for my next RV/Trailer need. 663280

My last tires from etrailer lasted 3 years of daily use. Although I have yet to put many miles on these I expect excellent results. Lisa D. guided me through the selection process. This Westlake model is a better fit (205) than my previous tire (215) yet offeres the same 8-ply & D load rating. My local stores still think they don’t make radial trailer tires! I can’t recommend etrailer highly enough! 569338

Had a blowout on the 2 year old original tires that came on Bullet 248rks so I decided to replace all 4 tires with the Westlake Super ST. Had them mounted by a mechanics at a Mercedes dealership. He was impressed by the quality of the tires and I shouldn’t have any problems with these tires. And they look great also. 667403

  • Availability of Westlake ST205/75R14 Tire and Wheel Combo with 5 on 4-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern
For a tire and wheel combo with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern that uses the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000012 we have the Westlake # 274-000017. The radial Load Range D Tire (2,040 pounds at 65 psi) comes mounted to a white powder-coat steel wheel ("Standard Rust Resistance"). The wheel itself measures 14 inches x 5-1/2 inches. We do not have a combo available that has this particular tire mounted to a 14 inch x 6 inch wheel. One of the great features of this tire...

  • Recommended 205/75-14 Sized Tires to Replace Original Tires on 2003 Pop Up
First of all I definitely recommend replacing them. We recommend replacing tires are 5 years old or older regardless of the miles or treadware. I recommend keeping the same 205/75-14 size you have but unless you're predominantly driving on rough terrain I'd replace the bias tires with radials. Radial tires flex more than bias tires so they make better contact with the road. This creates better traction and tread wear. They also run cooler which helps them last longer. On the other...

  • Should Tandem Axle Trailer Mix Radial and Bias Ply Tires
The letter difference in the tire sizes you referenced indicate that they are of different constructions. The D means bias-ply and the R means radial. I recommend sticking to one type of tire since the sidewall is stiffer on the bias ply which means the radial might be carrying more weight. In general you want the tires to all match in construction to give you predictable trailer handling. Since radials handle better I recommend going with all radials on your trailer with a tire like...

  • Do Bias Ply Trailer Tires have Stiffer Sidewall than Radial Tires
So radial tires have a bit more flex in their sidewalls when compared to bias ply tire so I believe that's what you are seeing. With trailer tires you have to go with the max psi listed when cold and then allow it to fluctuate up and down with temperature without letting air out. As long as you are also under the weight capacity of your tire you are totally fine!

  • Best ST225/75R15 Trailer Tires for Higher Speed Driving
The load and speed ratings of the ST225/75R15 trailer tires your 2017 Dutchman Aspen travel trailer are maximum capacities for the tires themselves. The 75-mph maximum speed of an L-rated tire does not indicate a recommendation to tow a trailer at that speed. Safe towing speeds naturally vary based on the nature of the road (dead-straight flat interstate versus winding two-lane back roads), the weather conditions and the total weight of the truck and trailer as a combined system. • Replacement 205/75-14 Sized Tires for a Tow Dolly with Bias Tires
Since it's safe to assume you're pulling your tow dolly on highways and not going off road with it I recommend switching from a bias to a radial tire. Radial tires flex more than bias tires so the generally have better ground contact and wear better. They also run cooler which is always a good thing. A tire's worst enemy is excessive heat. A great 205/75 R14 tire is the Westlake # 274-000012 which has a maximum capacity of 2,040 pounds at 65 psi. You always want to inflate trailer...

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation for 3,500 lb Axles in Size 205/75-14
I really like the Westlake radial trailer tires as our customers really like them, they are well-constructed and they have higher speed ratings of 75 mph compared to most trailer tires that are only rated for 65. In your tire size of 205/75-14 I highly recommend the # 274-000012 for the reasons I mentioned. They're rated higher thn youi need but they're great tires.

That's an odd problem to have with the tires if they are inflated to their max psi. Does the trailer sway slightly like you mentioned? If so then most likely you have the trailer improperly loaded or you have worn out suspension components adding too much movement to the setup. The Westlake Tire part # 274-000012 would be a great option as well. It has a weight capacity of 2,040 lbs at 65 psi and unlike most trailer tires has a higher speed rating of 75 mph whereas other tires are only...

  • Can Bias Tires be Replaced with Radial Tires on a Tow Dolly
Yes, you certainly can. In fact I recommend it. Radial tires are better for highway travel because they have better ground contact and generate less heat than bias tires. So they tend to wear better and last longer. We don't carry any 205/70-14 sized trailer tires like your bias tires are but we have some 205/75-14 radials. I've linked the complete selection for you. It sounds like you are looking at a tire similar to the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000012. The speed rating you mention of "L" is a max of 75 mph. If tires have this higher speed rating, they are labeled L or M (81 mph). If they don't have the L or M speed rating, ST tires are limited to 65 mph max.
