Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Found a match for our existing trailer tires on the website and it was shipped out the next day. Had it at the house in just a few days. Also took advantage of a few other items to be eligible for the free shipping. Didn't know an anti-wobble receiver hitch device existed, I wish I would have found that years ago. I'll definitely bookmark etrailer's web page for my next RV/Trailer need.

1 year in and still working well. Used it with boat trailers, a cargo hitch, and an Ultimate MX hauler. Worked well for everything Ive hitched up so far.

My last tires from etrailer lasted 3 years of daily use. Although I have yet to put many miles on these I expect excellent results. Lisa D. guided me through the selection process. This Westlake model is a better fit (205) than my previous tire (215) yet offeres the same 8-ply & D load rating. My local stores still think they don’t make radial trailer tires! I can’t recommend etrailer highly enough!

I mounted the tire at my local tire dealer and its all ready to go for a spare. 5 stars so far, but I can't rate the tire yet since its in my camper storage box waiting for use.

Great service from etrailer! It took less than 2 days from the time I ordered the tire (oem on our RV trailer) to receiving the package ! We did a 450mi segment of our RV trip and upon inspection of the RV (next day) one tire had 15 thorns that punctured the tire!! I was amazed that there was no loss of air pressure and grateful we didn’t experience a blow out!

- 274-000012

My camper had Westlakes on it when bought new, 5 years later I looked for an upgrade and all the "China Bomb" comments everywhere and even American had some negatives. I had no problem with my Westlakes for 5 years therefore I was my best reference and bought another set of Westlakes but moved up to D rated vice the C rated that came with the trailer. I have absolutely no complaints with these.

Had a blowout on the 2 year old original tires that came on Bullet 248rks so I decided to replace all 4 tires with the Westlake Super ST. Had them mounted by a mechanics at a Mercedes dealership. He was impressed by the quality of the tires and I shouldn’t have any problems with these tires. And they look great also.

The heavy ply is what makes this set so good when hauling my 24’ boat for long distances. Do have to worry about a blow out on the highway!

Great tire, matches the new trailer tires that I bought. Wish they offered the rim and tire together (mounted and balanced) . Local tire shop did that for free for me. No other site offered the tire and rim except etrailer. Fast shipping and very good packaging.

Tires look substantial. I have just gotten them mounted. They look like they will be good tires but have not taken them on a trip yet. Can't give 5 stars until i see how they perform.

The tire arrived today and it is very close i tread style to the other tires on my RV. Delivery time was very fast. Had it mounted and balanced so I am ready to put it on. This company is very easy to work with, sell a high quality product(s) and deliver when they say! Thank you!

  • Recommended ST205/75R14 Load Range D Tires To Replace Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Tires
I have another option for you, but we do not carry the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Trailer Tire with Load Range D. Instead I recommend taking a look at the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # 274-000012 which has the Load Range D and L speed ratings you were looking for. The Castle Rock and Westlake trailer tires are made by the same company, so this would be the closest option. We do offer quite a few wheel and tire combinations that uses the # 274-000012 which...

  • Trailer Tire Heat Ratings and Monitoring Devices
Trailer tires like the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000012 are not given heat ratings. The heat ratings are something that is given on passenger car/truck tires as a requirement by government agencies. Trailer tires are not subjected to the same kind of wear and tear as other tires. While it is important to ensure the tire is not overheating which is usually caused by underinflation and misalignment of axles, they do not receive heat ratings. I always recommend...

  • Should Tandem Axle Trailer Mix Radial and Bias Ply Tires
The letter difference in the tire sizes you referenced indicate that they are of different constructions. The D means bias-ply and the R means radial. I recommend sticking to one type of tire since the sidewall is stiffer on the bias ply which means the radial might be carrying more weight. In general you want the tires to all match in construction to give you predictable trailer handling. Since radials handle better I recommend going with all radials on your trailer with a tire like...

That's an odd problem to have with the tires if they are inflated to their max psi. Does the trailer sway slightly like you mentioned? If so then most likely you have the trailer improperly loaded or you have worn out suspension components adding too much movement to the setup. The Westlake Tire part # 274-000012 would be a great option as well. It has a weight capacity of 2,040 lbs at 65 psi and unlike most trailer tires has a higher speed rating of 75 mph whereas other tires are only...

  • Why Are Trailer Tires Wearing on Outside Edges
Trailer tires often wear on just the outside of the tire when they are not fully inflated to their maximum psi. With trailer tires you want to inflate them to the maximum psi, which you can find on the tire's sidewall; for example the Westlake Trailer Tire # 274-000012 has a max 65 psi. Doing this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear slower and evenly. The D at the end of the tire size you have just indicates the Load Range of the tire. The version of the size without the letter is same but with an unspecified Load Range. Judging by the picture of your tire it looks like yours were too old and failed. Trailer tires are only good for between 4 and 6 years before they start to lose integrity. So for a Load Range D tire in the size you need the part # 274-000012 is your best choice. It has a higher speed rating, an automotive tread design...

If tires have this higher speed rating, they are labeled L or M (81 mph). If they don't have the L or M speed rating, ST tires are limited to 65 mph max. You'll always want to fill a tire like the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000012 to the maximum 65psi when cold, since they will be able to handle the increased pressure as they warm up.
