Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I have been working on a boat and trailer that I got in a government surplus auction. The trailer is a triple axle and needed quite a bit of work. I replaced one axle and the brake lights. I am in the process of replacing all of the brakes, tires, bearings and seals. I am about half way done with the trailer and so far I have been very happy with the parts I have received from etrailer. I have not been able to road test them yet but installation has been great. I intend on getting a majority of the parts I need to finish the project from etrailer. The video overviews and installation instructions have been very helpful. Looking forward to sharing more pictures when the project is done.

Great quality rims delivered right to my front door. Easy website to navigate and quick turn around. I am a very happy customer.

I had to replace the tires on our trailer due to the previous owner installing wrong lugnuts so the rims and one tire was destroyed. We replaced the rims and tires with a complete set and then returned to etrailer to purchase the matching rim for our spare since we had one good tire. Great website, easy to find products, and the tracking info with actually seeing where the merchandise is quite ingenious. We'll be back again and refer to our friends.

Musky M.

I can not say one bad thing about the product. We recently trailer-ed the boat to Tennessee and back which is 675 miles one way and we went through the mountains. Tires and rims did everything we expected them too and we would recommend them to anyone. We have a 21 foot Stratos fish and ski with a 200 hp outboard which weighs in over 2000 lbs plus the trailer. I wish I wouldve ordered all 3 tires at the same time instead of ordering the spare at a later time. When we need another set of tires or rims well be back to your website.Thank you

Wheels as accurately depicted. Really dresses up my trailer and shipping was very fast and free! Can’t beat the price anywhere, I tried. Even came with new valve stems. Wasn’t expecting that... last place I’ll ever buy wheels from moving forward.

Wheels arrived in a timely manner, well packaged, and in good condition.

I put these new rims on my 18' boat trailer. I did not have them balanced. These rims are so true they do NOT need balancing. My boat and trailer go down the road straight as an arrow, now wobbling, no hopping, no weaving. When I need more rims, this is the place I will buy them from, BAR NONE...........EXCELLENT..........

John Z.

These rims are excellent. They have been in and out of salt water several dozen times, and still look brand new. I rinse the rims off with fresh water after each use which if you do not, they will dull a little bit, however, these rims are the truest, finest rims I have ever bought. I have recommended them to over fifty of my friends. Buy them, you will not be disappointed, also, these high quality rims are reasonably priced you can not go wrong. Fantastic product.

The wheels are just as advertised. Nicely galvanized! I am happy with my purchase.

The wheels have been in and out of salt water at least 30 times and the galvanize coating is as good as new.

I ordered this wheel hub so that I could mount a second spare to my trailer setup. It was exactly what I needed for a great price.

Shipped quickly and packed nicely

Very nice wheel, and the best value around. I did a complete refurbish of a 40-year-old boat trailer (which I bought new), and new rims were the final addition. Nice, clean galvanizing, and when paired with new radial tires, finished off the trailer refresh back to original specs perfectly.

As always, shipping was fast. All of my orders with have been seamless.

Price was the best of all the others, wheels were shipped within hours of ordering them, received them a day earlier than expected, doesn’t get any better than that, will definitely use again.

I consult with several retail e-commerce clients. I was notably impressed and forwarded your personalized tracking info to one of them as an example of a 2022 addition to their customer service.

Montrell was knowledgeable and persevered to educate me on the choices I had ordering new trailer tires and wheels.

He represented etrailer professionally.

I am a new raving fan.

Quickest trailer order ever delivered. I buy all my product from etrailer. They have great resources online to find just the right item. These wheels showed up and in great condition. Took them to my local tire shop and got them mounted no issues

Good as anyone’s price and fastest shipping thanks etrailer

Super fast shipping… decent price.

Beautiful rim really looks great on my trailer. I plan on buying another set my for tandem axle Sea Ray. It's a great rim at a great price.

What a great place to shop. I picked out what I needed (2 tires and a wheel) for my boat trailer after finding that Etrailer carried 14" load range D tires and had them in stock. After much searching, this seemed almost too good to be true. Then the free, speedy shipment from one coast to another was almost unbelievably fast, tires and wheels arrived in 4 days from time of purchase, package tracking was available and always up to date. Way to go Etrailer!!

Look great on my boat

Wheels we’re delivered quickly, sizing was perfect and look great!

It's a galvanized wheel, so wasn't expecting it to look like chrome, but was still surprised at the finish. Seems like a very nice wheel...especially for the price. But the biggest surprise is how fast I received it. I've waited longer for a call back from my wife! And the customer service is outstanding. Highly recommend these guys!

Super fast shipping and great product. The wheel to me doesn't look galvanized that I am used too as these wheels look chrome. Nice looking wheels though.

Good prices and quick delivery. Thanks

Fantastic match of my existing trailer wheels. Tire installed easily and spare was ready to go in a few minutes. Would purchase again if ever needed.

Looks good! We'll see how it does on a 9000 mile Alaska camping expedition...

  • Advantages/Disadvantages of Going with Smaller Trailer Wheel Diameter
By going down 1 inch in wheel size, you'll lower your ground clearance by 1/2 an inch, which is about the only disadvantage. You'll need to make sure that the tires you choose have sufficient load capacity for the weight of the trailer plus the weight of the load you'll be carrying. If you'd care to reply with your current tire size and load rating (listed on tire sidewall) and the bolt pattern of your current wheels (see linked article), I'd be happy to make some specific recommendations.

  • Selecting a Replacement Trailer Wheel for Trailer With 3500-lb Axles
To select a spare or replacement wheel for your trailer you will need to confirm the bolt pattern used on your trailer's hubs. The linked article will help you identify the bolt pattern used on your trailer. The part you referenced, Americana Steel Spoke 14 x 6 Trailer Wheel # AM20354, has a 5 on 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. This wheel is rated for a maximum load of 1,870-lbs at 50-psi but this may change depending on the load range rating of the tire you install. This 14 x 6 rim can be fitted...

  • What is the Actual Width of a Tire in Size 215/75R14
Thank you for the photo of your vintage travel trailer. Your tire is 215 millimeters, or 8.471 inches wide. The metric type of tire size designation such as what you provided, 215/75R14, includes several bits of information about the tire. The first number, 215, is the width of the tire between the widest points of its inner and outer sidewalls. This is expressed in millimeters. So your tire is 215 millimeters wide, or 8.471 inches wide. The second number in your tire size, 75, is the...

  • Will an ST205/75d14 Trailer Tire Fit On an ST215/75d14 Wheel
Every tire size has a range of wheel widths it can fit on. An ST205/75D14 will fit on 5, 5-1/2, 6, 6-1/2 inch wide wheels. For the slightly wider 215, it will fit on 5-1/2, 6, 6-1/2, 7 inch wide wheels. So as long as the wheel width is 5-1/2, 6 or 6-1/2 inches you can mount the smaller tire on the same wheel. Wheel widths are measured from bead seat to bead seat. This means the tire has to be off of the wheel to measure the width. I have included a helpful link to our series of trailer...

All of the available 14 inch aluminum wheels with a 5 on 1/4 inch bolt pattern have a width of 5-1/2 inches, meaning their backspacing will be 3-1/4 inches. • Trailer Wheel Recommendation for a Boat Trailer in Saltwater
For saltwater boat trailer use it is recommended to go with either a galvanized steel rim or a aluminum wheel. For a galvanized option I recommend the Americana Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel part # AM20354. Both these rims have excellent corrosion resistance. The galvanized wheel is coated in zinc that will protect the wheel from all corrosion, whereas the aluminum wheel is made of a metal that does not rust. It can get white flakes from the saltwater but it will not rust. If the galvanized...

  • Why Cant Different Size Wheels Be Used on the Same Trailer
I do not recommend that you use both 14x6 and 14x5.5 wheels on the same trailer. The tire size that you mentioned, 205/75-14 will fit both of these wheels yes but when used on a 14x6 wheel it will have a larger contact patch than when used with the smaller wheel size, 14x5.5. This smaller contact patch could very well cause issues with tracking as well as irregular wear patterns so I cannot recommend you do this. The wheel width should more than likely be stamped somewhere on the inner...

Yes. A 195/75r14 tire will work on a wheel like the # AM20354 just fine since it's 6" wide. The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM32156 is a slightly wider tire on the same wheel, for reference.

It isn't likely you have a 7 inch wheel rim. It is likely a 6 inch or a 5-1/2 inch width but that isn't an issue because they have a zero offset so the same size tire will still run exactly the same. If you want the combination the Loadstar ST215/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel # AM3S560 is close to the same price as the powder coated wheel # AM32181. • Should 20 Year Old Trailer Tires Be Replaced
As a general rule of thumb, trailer tires should be replaced every 6 to 8 years regardless of wear. Even though an older tire might appear to have plenty of tread left on it, dry rot and cracking can cause tire failure. The mating surface behind the bolt holes should be flat, and should mate perfectly with the face of your hubs. I would definitely replace the tires before using the trailer again.
