Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

  • 185/80R13 Tire & Wheel With Load Range D For Rockwood A122S Camper Trailer
Hi Rene, So we do have one option for a load range D 185/80R13 tire and 5-lug wheel for your Rockwood A122S camper, which is a tire from Kenda: - Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Aluminum Wheel # KE33JR The Karrier tire on the # KE33JR is a high quality tire that is highly rated by our customers, coming darn close to a 5 out of 5 star rating, as you can see on the product page. • Best Trailer Tire to Replace ST180/80D13
The best trailer tire we have to replace your ST180/80D13 would be the Kenda ST185/80R13 part # AM10208 which has the highest weight capacity of 1,710 lb and the highest speed rating of 81 mph. It's also a radial and has an automotive style tread pattern.

  • Trailer Tire for 13 inch Wheel of Coachman Camper
The Kenda Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10208 that you referenced would be a great option for your Coachman. This will fit your current wheels, has a higher weight capacity and speed rating too so it would be less prone to failure. Keep in mind that trailer tires are really only supposed to be used for 6 years at max as the rubber starts to break down and cause a higher likelihood of failure.

  • Will The Aluminum Viking Series Valhalla Trailer Wheel Fit The Hub Of The etrailer Axle # e65GR
Yes, the idler hubs on the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e65GR have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and are designed to fit 13" to 15" wheels so they would be a compatible fit with the Aluminum Viking Series Valhalla Trailer Wheel # AX02350545BMFL. For tires we have two sizes that will fit the # AX02350545BMFL; ST175/80R13 and ST185/80R13. An ST175/80R13 tire, like part # AM10210 will have a 7" section width and 24.1" diameter. • What Is Difference Between Karrier/Kenda Tires part Number KE68KV and AM10208

  • Class C or D ST185/80R13 Trailer Tires
It won't be harder to pull; a Class D with its 1,710 lb per-tire capacity is certainly viable and move up for the higher capacity and speed rating. Go with the 81 mph Kenda Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10208.

  • Should I Stay With 13" Wheels Or Upgrade To 14 Wheels?
I will start by sating that the wheels/tires on the trailer you are looking at do look kind of undersized. So you definitely can stay with a 13" set up like the Kenda Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10208 and Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel - 13" x 4-1/2" Rim - 4 on 4 # AM20242, which will give you 1,660 pounds of capacity (the wheel is rated lower than the tire in this case). While we don't have the Westlake brand tire in the size you want of ST185/80R13 we do have the Kenda part # AM10208 which is a radial tire in this size and has the same Load Range of D. This would work great in place of the Westlake you have now.

  • Availability of ST185/80-13 Radial Tire
We do have radial tires in the size ST185/80R13 that you can use! We have the Kenda Karrier # AM10208 and the Castle Rock # LHCK105 which are both Load Range D (1,710 lbs at 65 psi) tires and the biggest difference is that the Kenda Karrier is rated for 81 mph while the Castle Rock is rated for 75 mph, so I recommend the Kenda just for the higher speed rating. • Best Trailer Tire for Rockwood Camper with Tire Size 185/80-13
If your 2016 Rockwood Aframe camper A192HW has a tire size of 185/80-13 then the best tire we have as a replacement would be the Kenda part # AM10208 which is the size you need but it's a radial and the one you referenced is a bias ply. • Determining If Higher Load Range Tires 185/80-13 Are Better For Hauling a Polaris Ranger On Trailer
With trailer tires you really want to be careful with finding the right size tire for your trailer and load. You mention having a 175/80-13 tire for which we do have a load range B # AM1ST74 (1,100lbs), C # AM10199 (1,360lbs) and D # AM10210 (1,650lbs). By moving to the higher capacity tires you do get a stiffer tire which will create a stiffer ride for your trailer giving you more bouncing as most trailer tires also act as shock absorbers. It is generally best to stay with the same tire...
