Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity - 5780

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (575 Customer Reviews)

I bought the Sherline Tongue scale about a year ago to verify tongue weights on my travel trailer before heading out on a trip. It has been great. I use the pin and measure inside the ball of the tongue to be sure I'm getting the most accurate weight. The directions explain how you can weigh at the a-frame and how to compensate but I find it just as easy to measure at the ball.

I'm able to stop at CAT Scales on the road to get total combined weight, but the Scales usually don't let you drop the trailer so the tongue weight is a guess. Knowing the truck weight and combined weight I can get the trailer weight. Now I can be sure of the tongue weight as well.

The Sherline scale is simple to use, and very consistent. I can lower, raise and lower again and always get the same weight. I do keep the small wood block under the plunger (came with the scale) when not in use, and always pick it up by the body. Directions explain why this is important and how to rest the scale if you need to. Great investment.

Tongue Scale still proves itself to be a great help. As our equipment needs for the trailer change over time, its simple to just check the tongue wt. to make sure I stay within spec.

Price was the best, delivery was on time for my need and the accuracy was excellent. Loading a 24-foot trailer allowed me to nail the tongue weight for my trailer hitch exactly where I wanted it. I'll keep this for a long time. Excellent construction and sturdily built. Great purchase

This product works as advertised, is useful, and makes life run smoother. No more guessing at tongue weights or going to the scales, later to do a bunch of math, albeit simple. The machining and finish seems to be near perfect. Beats the heck out of levers and bathroom scales. I'm happy with and the purchase.

A couple of picks... ...Price -- the price makes purchase not an easy decision. If I wasn't changing and shifting loads a lot for running down the road for significant miles, I might not have made the purchase. ...and comes without a case; for the price, I might expect one. I carry this scale on the truck (for use both on our usual trailers, used for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief, and several that we may be asked to pull.) Without a case, it would roll around and probably get damaged. I built a wood case outta scrap for it, blocked it in with sponges, and it sits in the toolbox with the 10 ton bottle jack, the lug nut torque wrench, and a few other useful items. 4-3/4 stars outta five from me; I recommend it.

Still using the product. Still like it for what it does. Still using it in the same way. For one trailer, I run close to the OEM limits and the contents generally get loaded in a different order each time. Sometimes after using the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale, that load gets reloaded.I wouldnt use the scale as shown in the video because my landing gear is about 3 feet closer to the axles than is the coupler I use it as in your written directions at the coupler with wood blocking that I carry with the trailer for other purposes.

Good scale not enough bubble wrap to protect calibration the new one reads 35-40 lbs. more then my other exact same scale.
Quality good packaging not so good Todays shipper drivers are in a hurry they throw the stuff to ground over and over

Customer service will be contacting you soon.

Ok it is what it is you can lower down and get 675lbs. And do it again right away and have 825lbs so Iown two from etrailer I just do not think there as precise as should be I think there is a 50-75lb swing everytime you do it fast or slow or stead

These are really handy when you’re loading a lot of trailers like we are in a lot of the times were coming close to the capacity of the trailer and it really helps us to set the loads correctly because we deliver equipment throughout the Midwest so you might be driving 2 to 300 miles

The Sherline trailer tongue weight scale is very useful to me. It is a convenient way to measure trailer tongue weight periodically while loading the trailer, which gives me confidence that my trailer loads are well balanced for safest towing and that the tongue weight was below my hitch rating. I am glad i bought it.

I used the Sherline tongue scale for every trailer load I made during a move to another state. I believe it is even more important on lighter trailers towed behind small vehicles. Even after using the scale about 20 times, it shows no sign of leaking, malfunctioning, or inaccuracies. I am glad I bought it and is a great safety device. My Ford truck brake controller failed on one of my trips and locked up my trailer brakes, I am so glad I had a well ballance trailer load due to using a trailer tongue scale. You need a well balanced trailer on windy days or if you need to make fast maneuvers in emergencies. Thanks Sherline!

Arrived in cardboard box with white foam padding with I assume hydraulic fluid (yellowish green) on the white foam, block of wood not installed between scale body and plunger...bubble wrap over the gauge. Kind of concerned about the loss of fluid. Apparently same scale body used for three different range gauges so I guess the body's accuracy should be the same...display seems ok, but measured 200 lbs with 220 lb load (according to CAT Scale), gentle press and release to add some of my upper body weight to the trailer tongue then gauge indicated 240 lbs and remained without settling back down until entire load was lifted. Stiction in the plunger maybe? Most other reviews of this scale are great. They set a low bar or did I get a not so great one? Are these tested or calibrated before sale? I'd generously say this is probably +/- 10% in accuracy. Think my bathroom scale contraption was more accurate but way less convenient. Overall not impressed.

I will have Customer Service reach out to you.

Works good. Be careful of capacity, though. I needed a scale that could weigh >2,000#. I removed a 5,000# gage from one of our machine's hydraulic system and used it on the scale and was done with it. Afterwards, I ordered a 5K gage from Grainger and now I have both scales :)

Did exactly what I wanted it to. It came ahead of schedule and the whole experience was hassle free.
E trailer rocks!

This scale was the trick to make sure our trailers tongue weight was were it needed to be to safely pull out 31 pot travel trailer. It is small enough to be stored away in the trailer so the tongue weight can be checked each time we hook up.

Even though it’s pricy for what it is, I’m extremely glad I got this. My “guesstimate” for my tongue weight was pretty far off. Now I can tow with my class III hitch with some piece of mind. I hate to think about how many people are towing without verifying their tongue weight. Kinda scary.

I purchased the 2000 lb. Sherline Tongue Scale for use on my 5,600 lb. travel trailer. I have found that this scale is well built and works great for determining and adjusting the tongue weight for my differing camping equipment loads. This gives me a great sense of safety to be able to quickly adjust and verify my load for 12% target tongue weight that I use.

I highly recommend this product.

After using the Sherline trailer tongue scale I was amazed to see what my tongue weight really was. I have takin it to a RV dealer before and they used one to see the weight and told me it was much lower than it turned out to be. The scale that they used was a higher scale, so it was harder to see the right reading on the gauge. After purchising this scale (1-2000 lbs) it was clear of my tongue weight.

I wanted to ensure I didn't overload the tongue weight on my truck and balance my trailer load as best I could. It gave me peace of mind knowing it was loaded properly. I'm happy with the purchase.

Works perfectly as designed and convenient to use .Peace of mind that the tongue weight is within the tow vehicles pulling limits. I use a wooden log cut to the right height so that when this scale is placed on it the tongue is level and horizontal . I have used it probably 5 times in a year as my loaded trailer weight does not change frequently and I dont move things too often within the trailer

Extremely happy I purchased this piece of equipment. After receiving it, I immediately weighed our trailer tongue and found why I was having so much trouble balancing everything properly. My trailer tongue was 400 lbs. over what the dealer and manufacturer said it was. Come to find out, my WD Hitch, from our previous trailer, was severely under rated for the newer and much bigger load it was being tasked to carry. Based on the tongue weight this scale gave me, I purchased a higher capacity WD Hitch and everything is now balanced and pulling great!! Unknowingly, when we swapped trailers, we created a major safety issue by using a severely under rated hitch. Lesson learned, don’t go by what the dealer/manufacturer tells you! Thanks to the purchase of this Tongue Scale, I corrected what could have been a major safety issue.

Extremely Well! Most of my neighbors have asked me to weigh their trailers too.

I have an older Airstream that I live in year round for about 10 years now and had to move it for the first time to a new location not too far away. It really made my truck squat. I needed to find what the tongue is so I can make the appropriate adjustments and get the proper equalizer hitch because I plan on going across country with trailer in tow. This scale work perfect and verified my suspicions I had too much weight.

So why did I order trailer tongue scale. Even though I have a equalizing hitch I was still concerned that I might have to much tongue weight since I bought a toy hauler trailer that can haul two Harley Davidson's inline. Where you decide to put the first bike and second bike is more or less a guess. The tongue scale helped in the placement of the bikes for correct tongue weight. That's a lot faster than making multiple adjustments and trips down the road to see if you have them where they need to be. To me the time I saved and knowing I have the correct tongue weight was well worth the money.

Still any important part of my strategy when loading my toy hauler. Again well worth the money when it comes to safety.

Works well. Used to check both tongue weight and axle weight.
Accuracy at low extreme of range may be off a bit (seems to read low) as manufacturer data sheet points out. I had no immediate way to confirm accuracy at mid scale.

This is an excellent product. I was always uncertain if my tongue weight was correct. With this scale I determined it was too light, making my trailer sway dangerously. Everyone with a trailer should own one.

Product was delivered promptly and well packaged.
Product appears to be of high quality and will be invaluable in measuring my hitch weight.

Have purchased from etrailer before, and will again in the future. Very easy to deal with, and reliable. A+.

Only 4 stars because i'm unable to find where / how to calibrate the scale without any load (needle rests at just above 0lbs, seems to be off ~20 lbs when comparing to known weights around 200lbs). Otherwise this made weighing the trailer tongue weight way easier than setting up the 4' long leverage bar on a bath scale. NOTE: you should buy a scale that is close to 1.5-2x your tongue weight to ensure accurate readings.

They fit perfectly!

I have just received this product and have not had a chance to use it yet. However, after reading the instructions and care manual supplied with it, I recognize that it's longevity and accuracy depends upon how it is stored and handled. The manufacturer needs to offer a specialized storage case for it, as it needs to be stored upright, above 32 deg. F, and not jostled or handled roughly. The manual is a good tutorial on trailer towing and offers many cautions and suggestions for the user.
The product itself is compact and simple in operation. It should prove to be most useful when loading and towing my travel trailer

I use it ever every time I hook up just to verify any change in weight distribution. My tow vehicle is sensitive to hitch weight, as I am near max.

Excellent product and a must for anyone who tows a trailer. Very comprehensive pamphlet included that contains valuable info on trailering basics and safety. I've learned the hard way about proper tongue weight. This product would have saved me thousand$ and a lot of angst if I had it earlier. Buy it and use it.

Working perfectly

Curt hitch # 13199 is indeed a correct fit for your 2004 Nissan Titan. This Class III hitch has a 2-inch receiver opening and is rated for 6000-lbs trailer weight and 600-lbs of trailer tongue weight (TW). TW is the downward force on the hitch ball from the trailer's weight. Usually a properly-loaded trailer's TW will be between 12 and 15-percent of its total gross weight. Trailer hitches, and the vehicles they are bolted to, both have TW ratings and you'll want to ensure your trailer's...

Ideally, the weight should be evenly distributed laterally with 60% of the weight in front of the axles, and 40% behind them. Too much weight in the rear can cause trailer sway, which if you haven't experienced it, can be very scary. I'm not aware of any specific legislation relating to this. If you're experiencing sway problems, try moving some more of the cargo forward of the trailer axles. This should go a long way toward improving any sway you might be experiencing.
