B and W Tongue Weight Scale Recommendation for 2024 Airstream GT

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 02/16/2026

Question:

I am looking to buy a tongue weight scale for my 2024 27foot Airstream GT. The factory specs say it has a tongue weight of 875 lbs. My question, does it matter if the scale has a range of 0 to 4000 lbs like the BandW Digital Tongue Weight Scale w/ LED Screen for accuracy? I see it is recommended to pick a scale that is mid range if it is the type that is hydraulic ie. approximate tongue weight of 1000 lbs you should use a 0 to 2000 lb scale. Does it matter or are electronic scales different. thank, Michael

Hey Michael, this is a great question but you can use a tongue weight scale like the B and W part # BW34KR with a lighter tongue weight like what you have (relative to it's 4k capacity) and it will still work great. We had the chance to demo this jack here just last week and the trailer we used it on had only about 175 lbs of tongue weight and this still worked great.

Are you wanting a scale to help with picking out/setting up a weight distribution system?

I think this would work great for that trailer. I’ve used it from 500lbs up to 1200lbs and it was right where I expected it to be every time (based on verified weigh going over a scale). I bought this after an analog tongue weight scale failed and started leaking fluid. Highly recommend this one!

Strain gauges are consistent and accurate across greater weight ranges so it's a non-issue when considering a 2000 or 4000 pound scale. That leaves useability. The digital gauge is much easier to read than the dial and ruler type scales.
