Question:
Application is towing a 7000 lb GVWR enclosed cargo trailer. So tongue weight is probably 700 lbs. this is rated 800-1200 lbs. is it ok to use on a lighter trailer?

Expert Reply:
Hey George, typically tongue weight is 10 to 15 percent of the total trailer weight so there is a very good chance the Curt RJWeight Distribution system part # C75RJ is what you need as it has a tongue weight range of 800-1,200 lbs like you noted.
If for some reason it is right at 700 lbs though we have the lower rated part # C17499 which is 500-800 lb. It would probably be worth determining your tongue weight so that you know for sure what you need. To do that we have tongue weight scales like the BTBRV part # BTBRV004 which will let you know exactly what you have or you could find a local weigh station. Does your trailer normally have the same amount of cargo weight in it?
