Easy to Use

Remember when gauging your trailer's tongue weight was such a hassle? It often involved wrestling with bathroom scales, which were far from accurate, or making a trip to the weigh station, which took time and effort. Or you had to buy a separate scale. With a Weigh Safe Aero Hitch, it's super-simple. Just hook up your trailer to the ball mount like you would with any other hitch. The moment you connect, the weight of your trailer pushes down on the hitch ball automatically giving you a measurement on the easy-to-read gauge. It's quick, hassle-free, and takes the guesswork out of towing. Now you can focus on the road ahead instead of worrying about whether your load is balanced.

The Aero Hitch comes with a clamshell adapter, so you can tow trailers with either a 2" or a 2-5/16" coupler. No need to swap out your ball mount! Simply place the clamshell over your 2" ball and you're all set to hit the road. Just remember to take it off when you're not using it or when you're towing a trailer with a 2" coupler.

The Weigh Safe Aero Hitch can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your needs.

Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Aero Hitch - WS87MR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Weigh Safe Aero Hitch for a two inch hitch. It has a 10 inch drop, 11 inch rise, and a 12,500 pound maximum gross towing weight capacity. Now, this ball mount with the included hitch ball will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank right here is what'll slide into your two inch hitch receiver, and the two inch diameter ball will provide the connection point for your trailer coupler. The ball is a stainless steel hitch ball.

It is corrosion resistant. Now, this part will include everything laid out here on the table. It's gonna include this two inch shank right here. I'll slide into your hitch receiver. It includes the slider ball mount with the two inch fixed ball and the tongue weight gauge on the side here.

Now, it does also include the hitch pin and clip, which is used when this slides into your hitch receiver. You line this up with the hole, slide your pin all the way through, clip it and it'll secure it to your hitch receiver. And it also comes with the slider lock with the two keys that'll actually go through these holes here and lock this ball mounting to what position you need it in so nobody can mess with it. The unique thing that comes with it is this clamshell adapter. It is a 2-5/16 size clamshell adapter.

And what this does is this let you tow a trailer that has a 2-5/16 inch size coupler without having to change the ball mount. All you do is take this, place it over the ball and you just changed it from a two inch to a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball. And then when you're done, just remove it, store it, and then you have your two inch ball back. Now, the gross towing weight capacity is gonna be 12,500 pounds, tongue weight maximum of 1,500 pounds. And it doesn't matter which ball size you use, it'll be the same.

Now, we talk about tongue weight and why it's important. Tongue weight or pin load weight refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer is gonna exert downward on the back axle of your tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15%. Should not exceed 25% of your gross trailer weight. So for an example, if you have a 10,000 pound trailer, you should have a tongue weight between 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. And you can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo or just redistributing the load on the inside of the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components. Now, this Aero Hitch here is a nice smooth modern design. As we mentioned, it has the built-in gauge to measure your tongue weight to help you balance that trailer. So it's a quick way to check if your load needs any adjustments before hitting the road. And it is super simple to use. As we mentioned, you just couple your trailer to it and you'll get an automatic measurement every time so there's no more messing around with separate scales. It makes everything so much easier. And if you notice the adjustment holes along the shank here, this is an adjustable height, so it'll let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. All you have to do is slide this slider ball mount up or down in the shank, secure it in the position you need with the included locking pin. If you notice all the holes on the side, they are at one inch increment adjustments. So center to center between each hole, this will give you an incremental height adjustment of one inch. Now, the maximum drop would be the position it's in now. And that's measured from the top of the ball mount to the top of the shank. So this one maximum drop is 10 inches. If you flip this receiver over or if you flip the shank over in your receiver and then put this at the highest position, it'll give you a maximum rise of 11 inches. Now, we did mention the slider lock that'll lock this slider ball mount to your shank. It comes with the two keys. All you have to do is pop off the cover, put your key in there, turn it a quarter of a turn, and it removes the lock. And then just slide this through all the way. Put this back on there, turn this back, and you're locked into place. Put your cover on to protect the lock core. And just like that, it's all locked in place. You're ready to go. Nobody can mess with removing your ball mount. Last thing I want to do is give you some measurements and we're gonna measure from the two hitch pinholes to the center of the ball. We'll measure from the closest one and then the furthest one. So if we get a ruler and if we do the center from the first hitch pinhole to the center of the ball is right at eight inches. And if we measure from the center of the furthest hole, hitch pinhole to the center of the ball is 9-1/4 inches. But that's gonna do it for a look at this Weigh Safe Aero Hitch for your two inch hitch. It has a 10 inch drop or 11 inch rise with a 12,500 pound maximum gross towing weight capacity.

Customer service was excellent. Hitch is overkill for my current truck but looking toward the future with this purchase. Great company to do business with.

The Weigh Safe adjustable ball mount have a lot of pros to it. One of the main things that stood out for me was how the lock works. If you are putting on the lock cylinder on you don't have to use the key to lock it, it clicks in and locks into place. The Aero is a good option for someone who wants something that is lighter in weight than most adjustable ball mounts. It will also give you slightly better clearance since the two balls are not connected as one and you would get a clam shell adapter to adapt to the 2-5/16th ball size. The scale is a major plus when your loads are not always the same, you always know your Weigh is Safe to go!
