Fuse Location for 12-Volt Accessory Feed to 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2005 Chevy Silverado
Question:
Is the 12v acc pin supposed to be hot all the time in the 1 oclock position on the 7 way of the tow vehicle? Im not getting any power on that pin at all. The truck is a 2005 chevy silverado 3500 SRW. Is there a fuse that powers that pin? The 7way was a plug and play into the rear chassis harness. All help is appreciated!! Thanks.

On GM vehicles of that vintage, the 12-V pin should be hot regardless of whether the ignition is on or not. If it isn't showing voltage even with the ignition on, you're almost certainly on the right track thinking it's a blown or possibly missing fuse.
The 12-v feed circuit to the trailer connector is protected by a 40A fuse located in the power distribution box mounted to the inside of the driver's side fender in the engine compartment. Remove the lid and the cover to the box, which should fully expose the fuse block. On the inboard side of the fuse block, there should be two threaded studs. Check the one closest to the front of the vehicle to see if there is a wire with a ring terminal attached to that stud and if there's a good orange 40A fuse installed in the adjacent location as shown in the provide photo. If the fuse is missing, install one or replace if blown.
If there isn't a wire connected, look between the fuse block and the fender or between the fuse block and the firewall. There should be a red wire with a ring terminal attached to it. You might need to carefully peel some of the tape off the nearby wiring harness to locate the wire. If you can't find a wire with a ring terminal, you'll need to run your own circuit back to the trailer connector. Use a length of 12-1-1 wire and a # 44-5356A ring terminal, attach to that post and run it back to the pin in the 1:00 position on the trailer connector.
