n/an/a

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other weight distribution systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

The SwayPro bars are aptly named. My first trip with these bars was through the windy Columbia River Gorge. There was a marked improvement over the load distribution hitch I used previously. The SwayPro was easy to install (but a good torque wrench is needed). Once installed, hookup was also big improvement over a standard load distribution hitch.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I have used my Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item #BXW1000 now for the past year towing our Airstream 27FB with a Ford F150 over 5000 miles and six weeks of road trips. For comparison, I had used Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control hitches on three prior travel trailers over eight years - including a prior 27FB. For comparable levels of weight distribution, I have found: 1. The sway control with the Blue Ox is more of a dampening of sway - making it tolerable, while the Reese seemed to eliminate the sway from starting in the first place. A noticeable difference with crosswinds and passing semis at highway speeds. 2. Tightening and loosening the torsion bars with the supplied wrench and rotating cam of the Blue Ox is more stressful and unpredictable than using the lever pipe and lift bracket for the cam of the Reese. I bought a longer torsion bar and socket to replace the supplied wrench which helps (see photo). 3. While the Reese torsion bars and cams require routine topical application of grease, the Blue Ox torsion bar swivel attachments (see photo) require a grease gun to keep lubricated which is a nuisance. 4. Routine wear on the paint of the Blue Ox cam (see photo) adds rust as a maintenance problem that I didn't have with the Reese systems.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

After much research, I chose this Blue Ox. Liked this style over the others for it's simple use and less clips to lose. My issue was the rear of my KIA was sagging allowing the camper nose to drop. Which in turn made the camper sway. Very simple installation. The object is tweaking it to get both the tow vehicle and camper level and to line the chain up with the bracket mounted on the frame of the trailer/camper. We've taken it out on 1 short trip so far and it has definitely been an improvement. It is quite heavy, but just about all brands are. Read others that said the ball was not included..... mine was! Very pleased with my decision.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

The hitch came very quickly and was well packaged. I was surprised to find an upgraded chain tool and 20k lbs ball already attached to the hitch. The reason I have four stars was there was not option to select a longer shank length. So, $[XX] dollars later I was able to get an extended shank for my 3/4 ton truck.

It worksgreat! I really like the customer service at etrailer. They help you get the parts you need and are fair if you need to send them back or exchange. I have this stetup on my 2020 f-250 and 2021 keystone outback 210urs (5000lbs with around 500lb younger weight) I’ve never towed the trailer without the bars on but I can say that the ride is smooth. On a smooth highway I have gone 70+mph for short periods to pass and it feels totally smooth and safe. You don’t need these bars with a 3/4 ton Truck but it makes the ride more balanced and keeps you truck bed more level and I think that improves safety. It takes around 20% of the load off you tow hitch. I ordered this before I received my trailer and had to return the chain and bar portion for the next size up because I ended up with a heavier trailer. Because of the delays from the factory. etrailer helped me out the whole way and only charged me shipping. This is a no brainer! Get this hitch your suspension will thank you and buy from etrailer they are better at customer service than a brick and mortar store. Plus they have a huge inventory.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

The product is well built, easy to install and tows great. The downside is the chains. Before upgrading to a new trailer, I got rid of the standard chain style weight distribution bars and went to the square bar style. After getting a new trailer, my 14k bar style wasn't rated for the tongue weight and I had to upgrade to this. The new trailer is only 14k loaded but has a 2k pound tongue weight. This is the only hitch on the market that would carry the tongue weight and I am back to chains. They are difficult to deal with and if you dont have the tongue jack taking most of the pressure off of them, the wrench to release the chains can get away from you. If somebody make a chain less unit, I would get away from this.

Comments
Great product, absolutely no issues with it. However, the chains still stink and wish they had a better alternative for this heavy hitch.

Great product! Exactly what I was looking for to use with my hitch extension for my boat trail and camper set up.

Comments
Excellent! This is exactly what I needed to help with the tongue weight of my boat trailer. This product takes the worry out of towing with the extended trailer hitch due to the camper on the truck.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

Pros: Easy to install, doesnt squeak like all of the other ones. Able to back up without disconnecting. Easy to use as long as you lift the trailer up all the way on the tounge before you connect/disconnect. My truck (2017 F150 with 2020 Cougar 29BHS) sits perfectly level with no sag at all. Sway is minimal although I have yet to drive in anything with winds greater than 30MPH (thankfully) Cons: Main con for me is having to raise up the tounge everytime to connect or disconnect the chains. If you dont do this, you will never be able to get enough links in for proper tension, and when you go to release the chains the tension will be extreme causing the breaker bar to go flying forward.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

The blue ox pro weight distribution looks extremely well built. However, When I ordered the kit, I believe it said it did not come with a ball. So I ordered a ball. I now have an extra ball that I don't need. UPS delivered the box and the box was crushed, two holes punctured into the box. Fortunately for me, all the pieces were still in the box. Past that, I'm excited to pull my trailer and see how it does.

Comments
This is included in the product description: System includes head assembly, adjustable shank, spring bars, lift chains, rotating lift brackets with handles, reducer bushing for ball shank, pin and clip, 2 and 5 sixteenth inch hitch ball, and all necessary hardware.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

We have a 23 foot Airstream we pull with a Suburban and use the Blue Ox Sway distribution hitch. We purchased this a year ago and went on 10 weekend trips last summer 6 of them over the continental divide in Colorado. This summer we have been on 3 weekend trips and once over the continental divide. We have many more trips planned. The hitch is easy to hook up and was easy to install. Etrailer was great at helping getting the correct size bars. We have pulled the trailer in rain and winds and feel very secure in any road condition we have encountered. No issues with backing up. Nice hitch I recommend it.

Comments
We have a 23 foot Airstream we with the suburban for 3 seasons now with the Blue Ox Sway Hitch. We go every weekend somewhere in Colorado. Drove through New Mexico for Christmas. That is a windy state. I did not know the wind was blowing so hard until we stop and get out. Must be working. I did put a piece if tape on the part that turns so I can see where the wrench goes and on the chain link. This helps with hooking and unhooking for reference. Enjoy.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

The Blue Ox SwayPro 1500 arrived today. Ordered online from eTrailer on Tuesday and delivered to West Michigan on Friday. FAST! etrailer service and support is always First Class. While heavy, the Blue Ox WDH was in perfect condition. The quality and appearance of the Clue Ox is great. The hitch is powder coated and very clean. I was impressed that Blue Ox has totally upgraded the chain latch wrench. No longer that flat piece of metal. The new wrench is a plated, heavy duty socket wrench. Much like a wheel lug nut wrench that is made especially for releasing the latches. Our new TT was delivered to our dealer while our state is in lockdown. There it sits until May 1. I will update review after install and first trip. With all the changes in the world... very happy to purchase a product Made in U.S.A.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I put this on my trailer as soon as I bought it (Coachman Apex Nano 194BHS) so I can't say how it would drive without it. But it is a very solid and well crafted system. No weird popping noises from it, which is what I didn't like about solid bar systems. Installed quickly and easily (watch the etrailer install video!) Mine came with the new hefty tire iron like wrench (instead of the flat knuckle buster). Seems like a huge improvement, absolutely a necessary upgrade for such a premium product

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I've driven over 11,000 miles this year, through snow, rain, and gusty winds and have no troubles with this hitch system. Just love it. The finish has chipped off, and in those areas, rust is developing. Otherwise a very good product.

Comments
Hi Douglas, Thanks for your feedback! With the powder coating being chipped off, I would recommend cleaning the rust off and applying a rust resistant paint to the bare metal. This will help prevent the rust from spreading. I have attached a helpful article that goes into better detail.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Due to the height of our trailer's hitch I ordered a Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank to use with the SwayPro and the pair work great together.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I had the unfortunate experience with having your new airstream 20' taken out by a hydroplaning car last month. The airstream rolled right and on to its side, and the hitch released keeping our Suburban from rolling. The stabilizer bars and chains maintained the trailer connection and eased the stop with the rear tires of ground. The hitch bent the receiver on the truck, and the only damage appeared to be one " sprung" spring bar. A good result from a bad experience!

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I’m not very happy with my purchase. The weight distribution hitch I purchased does not fit on my trailer. There is a welded support bracket right where the hitch bracket is supposed to go 29 inches back on my trailer. Can the bracket go further back or does it need to go right above the chain? I’ve attached a photo of my issue.

Comments
Yes this blue ox weight distribution system part # BXW1006 does require the brackets to be positioned 29 inches from the hitch ball. Since you have a support bar where the bracket does need to be positioned this weight distribution system will not work for your trailer. I recommend the equalizer system part # EQ37100ET
Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW
$737.12
. The sway control brackets on the equalizer system can be positioned 27 inches to 32 inches back from the coupler. It handles tongue weight from 700 to 900 pounds and will still allow for backing up. It also includes the 2 5/16 inch ball and shank.

This is the item that I ordered. The box the hitch was in had damage at both ends at at 3 of the corners. Thank God there was packing tape on the ends --- seems like the tape is what was holding the box together. Your shipping department needs to do a much better job of packing a heavy item like this. Per the installation instructions, it looks like I might need the 9 hole shank instead of the 7 hole shank. I need to confirm this with a knowledgeable employee before I try to complete the installation.

One year later and we logged a few thousand miles pulling our Rockwood Mini-lite with the Blue Ox Sway-Pro. It took a little getting used to the chain hookup but once you do it a couple of times it’s pretty easy. The hitch is awesome. It has great weight redistribution and the trailer has never swayed once. Even in strong cross winds. Very pleased with this purchase and with e-trailers price and tutorial video. They are my go to for all things towing.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

I have no experience with other WDH's but this unit does what I expect it to do. I pull a 33' 7,500# Jayco trailer and it allows me to move the weight as needed to the front axle and it seems to control sway very well. I originally used this with an F-150 that was exceeding my rear axle rating so it was crucial that I get the weight shifted forward which this unit did well. I have since moved up to an F-250 so it is not nearly as critical but it still makes the trips pleasant. This unit is specific to underslung couplers like Jayco uses. Also being able to back the trailer without disengaging the WDH is an advantage over some of the other brands. The action of the chains during disconnect can be intimidating and dangerous until you get accustomed to the process. The one complaint I have is not with the unit itself but the wrench that is provided to load and unload the chains. It is flat (hurts your hand) and too short to get adequate leverage. I suggest you use an 18-24" cheater bar with a 1" socket to load/unload the chains. Otherwise very happy with the purchase

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

1yr review. First off Amy with customer support was extremely helpful with making sure I picked the correct product and to get it to me in a timely manner. Now for the product The BlueOx unit has been great, the hitch is a little heavy for some people but it is manageable, the installation was a breeze with clear instructions (video) and took about an hour with a quick trip to rent a torque wrench to tighten to spec and have my local dealership install the ball to avoid the cost of another socket. Setting the correct chain tension is a trial and error process based on your vehicle and trailer weight, I have two different settings based on it I’m carrying fresh water or not. Using the cam tension system can take some force to tighten but lift the tongue more it will help alleviate this but my wife does struggle with it when she hooks up (Don’t get hurt when camping). As for pulling it keeps the trailer on track (I pull a 33’ TT) provided you have good tension on the bars of it sways a bit take up another link. The unit is quite so no popping or cracking (like most) and you can back the unit in without disconnecting. The unit has held up to the Arizona weather and still looks like new except for the nuts welded to the tensioner where the wrench connects has some surface rust and wear. Overall this is a great product I like that additional parts can be purchased separately for additional trailer uses or upgrade for new trailers. My only complaint would be the amount of force needed to set the cam tensioners.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch

Finally got around to installing the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with bolt on chain latches. The process was straight forward after viewing youtube vids, taking time to be sure all my measurements were correct. With the bolt on chain latches you do not get many chances to get it right. I could not use clamp on as my V-nose RV did not have room above the frame to clear the clamp on latch.. drilling was a pain as clearances on my frame were tight and I had to go around a electrical junction box on the inside of the frame.. but once on, it was a breeze to set up. The overall quality of the hitch was great and I don't miss having to set the angle of the hitch head (it's fixed) making the only adjustments necessary was hitch height and chain length. I initially set mine up using 9 links on the chain, but once I got out on the road, I noted the RV was riding nose low so I went up to 10 links on the chain. Now the truck and RV are level, the truck rides and handles as I expected. I have not had the rig out on a long haul, so I can't comment about the sway control of the hitch.Truck is a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost, max tow 3.73 gears, rv is a 6600lb (empty) V-nose 25ft toy hauler. I like the chain latch set up. Easy to use especially on a V-nose trailer. The concept of sway control with the short length chain is feasible and after this week trip (with some interstate time), I will report back if it doesn't work as advertised. All in all I am happy with the hitch and of course happy with the eTrailer purchasing process.

Comments
A year later and we have used this hitch many, many times and couldnt be happier with the purschase. Hook up is a breeze. Have had the chance on several occasions to get on the Interstate with the big trucks and wind and the sway control works. I am very pleased with the hitch. Thanks Blue Ox and eTrailer!

  • Best Way to Reduce Sag When Towing with 2018 Ford F-150
Lift kits aren't often designed to be used when towing so first thing you might do is check with the manufacturer of the lift kit to see if towing is okay to do with it installed. An air bag kit would add additional support like you would need so you could use the Firestone # F2582 which does fit your truck. But a better option would be a weight distribution system which take some of the tongue weight and distributes it back up to the front axle to reduce sag and improve handling and...

Good question. I checked with Curt because I haven't had this come up yet but unfortunately no, the RockerBall, part # C29FR, cannot be used with a weight distribution system. Looking at your pictures I think you have a Blue Ox SwayPro system, like part # BXW0753. If I'm correct then you need a standard 2-5/16 inch ball with either a 1 or 1-1/4 inch shank. Beyond that the choice is yours so part # 63847 is a good option for a a 1 inch or part # 63840 for a 1-1/4 inch.

  • Which Blue Ox Sway Pro Recommendation for 2018 Lance 1685 GVWR 5500 lb
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. With the towing capacity of your...

  • Do the Hook Up Brackets for Curt Weight Distribution Systems Provide Sway Control
The Replacement Hook Up Brackets # C17208 do not act as sway control. These are for use with just the chain systems like part # C17332 or # C17057 which require a friction sway control like # 17200 if you want sway control added. This friction sway control is effective but a little outdated and can be frustrating because you have to disengage it to back your trailer up. For a system that does have integrated sway control and chain hangers you can use the Blue Ox SwayPro like part # BXW0753...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch That is Easy to Use
When it comes to a weight distribution hitch they are all fairly similar. What will likely be the easiest for you to use is the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - Underslung - 8K GTW, 750 lbs TW # BXW0753. • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Small Enclosed Cargo Trailer
For the best performance, you'll want to match the system you use to the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. Typically, a system is rated to be effective for a 200-500 tongue weight range, and ideally you'll want the fully loaded tongue weight of your trailer to fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the system you choose. If you choose a system with a capacity far greater than the trailer tongue weight, the trailer will ride like...
