Reduced axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Just like the rear of your vehicle will sag under the weight of a fully loaded bed, the front of your vehicle will sag when under the burden of heavy equipment such as a snowplow. In this case, the front axle is handling not only the weight of the equipment, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Install diagrams of Timbren hollow rubber springs

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your front axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down so that the bottom of each spring touches the axle. Because each spring is making constant contact with the axle, it is always working to cushion and support your factory suspension.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you're carrying off-center loads.

A snowplow mounted to the front of the truck will require extra suspension support for the front axle.

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System will help raise the front end of your vehicle when you're using heavy equipment like a snowplow. This ensures that your headlight beams will be pointed in the right direction and tire wear will be reduced. If the plow is off-center or has an extension, the springs will automatically compensate for this as well.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Vehicle Suspension - Front Axle Suspension Enhancement - TTOFTUN4 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1975 to 1995 Toyota pick-ups. The 1993 to 1998 Toyota T-100 pick-ups, 1995 and newer Toyota Tacoma, 2000 and new Toyota Tundra and the 98 to 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 470. Now on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend to go to our website, use out fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now this part will improve suspension, handling and safety on your vehicle. It works great on trucks with snowplows. This will provide additional support as needed, so you always have a smooth, comfortable ride.

Basically it allows the leaf spring ample movement while cushioning light loads, and it does not affect the empty ride of the vehicle. This does become more rigid as more weight is added so it increases stability, providing great performance while hauling heavy loads. It will help reduce vehicle sag and it does work independently side to side, so it'll help compensate for off-center loads, and it reduces body roll when swerving or turning corners. These will act also as shock absorbers, taking the brunt of bumps on rough roads, so it'll help extend of your vehicle suspension. A few specs on this. It includes the two aeon hollow rubber springs and the hardware for installation. It also includes a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install it. There is no drilling required.

Basically these will replace the axle bump stops on your frame. Capacity on these is fourteen thousand pounds, but you do want to make sure that you do not exceed your vehicle's weight carrying capacity. This is also designed to work with a suspension system that is in good working order. That should do it for the review of the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System.

Work great with a little extra weight on the front end. Easy to install... out with the old in with the new. I have to say that e-trailer has the best customer service I have ever experienced buying on line. From the time I ordered they kept me updated on the status and that made the experiance worth it. 69026

These are an awesome suspension up grade. Great for beefing up a half ton. I installed front and rear timbrens on my 02 tundra and im carrying 2000 lbs. Level, no suspension sag and have had 2800 lbs on still handled ok with no droop. Down side is they ride really rough if you do alot of dirt road / off-road driving. I don't recommend those load weiights with 6 ply tires move up to 10 ply. 573504

Realized that this install will be difficult, after ordering. No online tutorials for the 2nd-gen Tacomas on how to actually get at the bolt that holds the stock unit in place. I can barely feel it. let alone get a socket on it. I suppose if I had a lift it might be easier, but it would have been nice to have some warning about this. I also ordered the rear units and they are straightforward with plenty of videos. I'm sure I will eventually get this on somehow, maybe by hiring my local garage. Argh. 540039

Solid Product! Yeah it's a stiffer ride when loaded But that's the sacrifice made to have more control of the haul while underway. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay more level with a heavy boat/trailer setup as in my case. Not that install is hard but removal of spare tire before install, may have helped with space if you don't have a lift. 511931

I ordered timbrens for the front and rear of my chevy 2500. I have a 2000 lb truck camper and I wanted something to help carry the load a little better. I had no idea that my front bump stops had worn away to almost nothing until I installed these. They have worn well and performed well so far. 628835

Installed on my 2007 Ram 3500 because I wanted basic leveling & stability under the load of my 5th wheel. I didn't want a complicated air bag system. Summer trips in the mountains of MT & the Pacific NW. 3 months of snowbirding throughout southern AZ this winter. Very satisfied, so I just swapped them onto my new 2018 Ram 3500. I didn't let them go with my trade-in. Just what I need, no effect when empty - engaged when I need them. 628560

Received my Timbrens very quickly, very well packaged. Installed them is less than 30 minutes. Have yet to hook my rv to the truck, but can see these are going to be really helpful. About 1" to my axle where my OEM bump stops were a good 7" As always etrailer rocks!! Look forward to dealing with these folks when the need arises again. 484817

The Timbren suspension was delivered on time . The unit was installed using the instructions provided and took about 45 minutes for both sides of the rear axle. I have not put a load on the truck yet to see how it works. There is about 1" of clearance between the rubber timbren stops and the frame of the truck,so it hasn't affected the way the truck handles for now,I'll be able to tell more about it once I hitch my Travel Trailer up.The installation was done on a 2017 Nissan Frontier. 621664

Night and day difference while towing. This is one of the best additions to my truck. My camper is around 7k pounds. My back end doesn't sag as much and doesn't bounce as ki when towing. Not noticeable when unloaded. I recommend this to everyone e who tows. 613728

These do really well for supporting a full load or trailer attached. But if unloaded the will create whiplash if you go over a speed bump or anything that creates the axle to spring up and hit them. 611025

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I bought Timbrens to install on my 2015 Silverado 2500HD truck, which I use to haul our 5th wheel. I had a set of airbags on my old GMC and they worked well, however, they were a concern when it came to maintenance. I saw a review and recommendation for Timbrens and thought they were a great alternative to having airbags installed. I read the instructions and can see no problems with installing them myself - thereby not only saving in the cost over the airbags, but also not having to pay anyone to install the Timbrens. Everything I have read about them makes me feel very good. I don't see the truck lowering with the 5th wheel attached, but having the Timbrens installed will take away any worries with rough roads. 613453

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I finally had a chance to try these out and they work great. Granted, I do have what they market an ultra-light travel trailer, but for my configuration of my 2007 Dodge Durango (4.7L), this trailer totals out about 75% of my towing capacity. That being said, this vehicle has an abnormally smooth ride for it's size. Because of this, the weight at the hitch creates a slight sag in the rear when weighted over 400 lbs. It also created some suspension characteristics I didn't like, like the slow bounce over undulations. I was advised my shocks were in perfect condition and utilizing stiffer shocks would not prevent the sag and would make the overall ride too tight for me. This was the reason for looking into this option. Installation was as simple as it gets (pull off the old and put on the new). The only tools (if you want to call it that) are possibly a couple of 2x4 blocks (of course you're going to need a jack to jack up your vehicle). 4 inches total was needed to properly seat them. It took a total of 30 minutes, but 20 minutes was me pulling out my jack and jack stands, finding blocks, and taking my sweet time. My Durango rode as level as expected after installation. Photos would not show anything noticeable without actually measuring it (about 450 lbs on the tongue with my particular trailer - see photos). I also didn't have to adjust my mirrors, which was inherent in the slight sag I had before. It took bumps well and the ride was not as bouncy as before, more firm and controlled. The ride without the trailer is noticeably firmer, and with little bumps you can tell they're making contact. Mostly noticeable over speed bumps where my Durango would normally float over them due to the long travel. My Durango inherently didn't ride like a truck or large SUV, more like a sedan. Now, it "sorta" rides more like a truck. Not a deal breaker, but if you like your truck to keep riding smooth, these might not be for you. Pros: Works as advertised. Easy installation. Keeps your vehicle level. Firmer more controlled ride. Removed annoying bounces. Great quality build. Cons: With the clearance from your axel to your bump stop now ~1.5 inches, bumps will be felt if making contact (-1 star for me, but if this is not an issue for your application, you should add the star back). Overall, I would highly recommend this product, even for a smaller SUV like my Dodge Durango. That being said, it won't have the same smooth ride with the long travel as before, but definitely worth it if you're towing with the same type of vehicle. 489147

Comments

After a year of use, the product continues to perform as expected. I have specifically put about 6-8 trips with this product and I have not had any issues. This included many miles on the highways and some trail driving. The product continues to perform well, assisting on absorbing undulations and helps keep the vehicle stable and level. I did not mention this before, but its important to know that this product is only a supplement to an already stable suspension and correctly-weighted setup. If properly used, this product will enhance your driving experience, but it will not fix any overweight or setup issues. I still highly recommend this product.

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

This product seems as described in etrailer catalog and by salesperson. Very easy to install, both sides and clean up 30 minutes (actual install time was about 15-20 minutes). My truck has 100 gal fuel cell and tool box that is pretty full, so I generally have an extra 1200 lbs in bed of truck full time. Looking at truck it sits level instead of rear sitting up a little, not a big deal except headlights aim a little higher and when pulling trailer with skid steer or mini, truck sags an amount that looks overloaded. After installed truck bed height looks close to an unloaded truck. With full fuel cell the truck rests on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, I was pleasantly pleased with the ride and look of the truck. The only minor difference is when truck comes to complete stop, there is a slight "jiggle" in truck. Very minor but it is noticeable. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. I can't wait to see how system performs with loaded trailer hooked up. 594996

Product was easy to install, 1/2 hr taking my time. Used a open end wrench and floor jack. My 2018 F350 Super Duty Super Cab 4wd no longer plunges over bumps, it has lost all its rear end sway on turning, carries my load much smoother ( loaded all the time ). Even with the load I always carry, the vehicle sits 1” higher in the rear. Prior to the install I was constantly hitting the rubber stops on my factory overload springs. 520123

The installation took about a half hour on our 2006 Winnebago View. I did not need to remove the tires, just jacked it up enough to unload the suspension a bit. The upgrades have quieted down the front suspension both reducing hard suspension hits and body lean. The front of the View is definitely more settled. Pros: Simplicity, and ease of install. measurable difference in RV suspension performance. Cons: expensive for what they are. The long bolts used do not inspire confidence. 220089

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

These "enhanced" bump-stops have definitely improved the ride quality of my 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab when pulling our 7500 lb. 29 foot travel trailer. The trailer probably has 500+ pounds of food, clothes, kids toys, etc inside as well. The truck bed probably has another 800'ish pounds of equipment in it that compresses the suspension before I even hook the trailer up. With the stock stops the rear suspension hardly moved. After adding the new stops, the rear suspension had travel again and the steering felt less twitchy. Unloaded truck will hit the new stops only if I hit a pretty harsh bump but it's only noticeable if you're paying attention to it. With a loaded bed (no trailer) hitting the stops is more noticeable but you still need to hit a decent bump for them to touch. They are very easy to install. Take the time to read the instructions and watch the installation video before you pay someone $50-$75 for a 15-20 minute job. I would buy them again. 482362

This enhancement replaced the OEM for a 2016 (new) Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Class B+ camping chassis. OEM was OK (good enough), but the Timberlin enhancement reduced front end bounce and sway on rough roads significantly -- noticeably. (Rear Timberlin suspension enhancements were installed prior to delivery/acceptance from dealer). The Timberlin shock arrestors are three times larger than OEM. Cost to install by experienced mechanic -- $65 (less than an hour). We're happy with it. (The Sprinter has an OEM rear anti sway bar, it could also use a front anti-sway bar as well when the vehicle is used for long trips.) Having said all that, I favor the Sprinter over other Class C and B+ chassis without these modifications. 297039

  • Front-Mounted Hitch Receiver for 2017 Toyota Tundra 4X4
  • We can offer you a choice of two 2-inch front-mounted hitches for your 2017 Toyota Tundra. You can see both the Curt and Draw-Tite options by clicking on the link provided. Both Curt hitch # 31198 and Draw-Tite hitch # 65080 share 500-lb vertical load and 9000-lb line pull ratings. Both are no-drill installations using included hardware. The Curt has the advantage on price so I suggest this one over the Draw-Tite. Installation instructions are linked for you. If you plan to use a...

  • Recommended Front-Mount Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for 2014 Toyota Tacoma
  • Both the Curt Front Hitch # 31313 and the Draw-Tite Front Hitch # 65070 are confirmed to fit your 2014 Tacoma 4x4 but I definitely recommend the Draw-Tite for its higher 500-lb vertical load weight rating and because it allows re-installation of the skid shield which is not possible with the Curt. If you're intending to use a hitch-mount snow plow like the Detail K2 Avalanche # K2AVAL8219 or a hitch cargo carrier like # 63153 or any other potentially heavy item you might want to consider...

  • Can Just Front Axle Timbren Kit be Installed on 2011 Toyota Tundra
  • Yes, you can install Timbrens on the front axle of your 2011 Toyota Tundra that you plan to use to plow with. For that we have the # TTOFTUN4 that you referenced which would fit and work well.

  • Why is One Set of Front Timbren SES # TTOFTUN4 Installed on a 2005 Toyota Tundra w/ 4 Bump Stops
  • If you check out the linked installation details for the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System # TTOFTUN4 that you referenced you will note that they say to remove the rearmost bump stop (for the front suspension). You will not be replacing all 4 of them, only 2. This is because there is only room for one upgraded bump stop. Please note that any suspension enhancement will not increase the weight capacity of your 2005 Toyota Tundra. It is only meant to support a suspension that...

  • Mounting Kit Required to Install Detail K2 Rampage II Snowplow K2RAMP8219 on 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4X4
  • To mount the Detail K2 Rampage II Snowplow # K2RAMP8219 on your 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 you will need the appropriate installation kit. That bracket kit part is # K285120. Very often trucks that have a snow plow installed will benefit from some front-end suspension support to help offset the load from the plow's weight. Since the Rampage weighs in at 265-lbs you will certainly notice the stability benefits from a set of front jounce springs. A kit like Timbren's # TTOFTUN4 will bolt...

  • What Air Lift Suspension Products Fit 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 TRD
  • Your 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 TRD (non-Pre-Runner) double-cab pickup can be fitted with both front-axle and rear-axle suspension enhancement products. For example, if you regularly use a snow plow or front-mounted winch you can use Timbren front suspension jounce springs # TTOFTUN4. These offer no-drilling bolt-on installation and replace the axle bump stops on the truck frame to provide progressive resistance under load, but do not otherwise affect the ride of the vehicle. For rear-axle...

  • Will Timbren Suspension Enhancement Reduce Wear on Shocks on a 2001 Toyota Tundra
  • Timbren systems are designed to absorb road shock which does increase the life of the factory suspension. You will want to first make sure that the suspension is in good working order before installing and using the Front Suspension system, # TTOFTUN4. You can see in the instructions I have linked for you how the system will be effective in taking up the shock based on its position. The Timbren system has a limited lifetime warranty so I would not worry about the longevity of the product....

  • Where Does Front Timbren Suspension Enhancement Install on a 2010 Toyota Tundra
  • The Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System, part # TTOFTUN4, mounts where your factory bump stops are mounted. To install part # TTOFTUN4, you will have to remove the factory bump stops and replace with the Timbren System. I attached a picture that shows which bump stop to use in relation to the front struts.

  • Differences Between Timbren Suspension Enhancement TTORTUN4 and TTOFTUN4, 2010 Toyota Tundra
  • Basically, the Timbren Springs you have referenced, # TTOFTUN4, are for the front suspension. The 6,000 pound system, # TTORTUN4, is for the rear suspension. Installing Timbren suspension enhancement will have very little to no effect on the unloaded ride quality. I have included links to the installation details for both sets for you.

  • Comparing Timbren Suspension Enhancement for 2018 Toyota Tacoma
  • There are six different Timbren kits for suspension enhancement that all fit your 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Four are for the rear and two are for the front. Of the front two, part # TTOFTUN4 is designed for adding support when you put a snow plow on the truck and # TABSTOF is an active bump stop that cushions the shock when off-roading. A couple of the rear kits are designed to support the rear of the truck when either towing a trailer or adding weight in the bed. Use part # TTORTUN4 if...

  • Will Timbren Suspension Enhancement for a 2014 Toyota Tacoma Add Additional Ride Height
  • The Timbren kit part # TTOFTUN4 is not designed to provide your 2014 Toyota Tacoma with additional suspension height. It will help prevent sag when the vehicle is loaded but otherwise the ride height would not be increased.

  • Where To Mount Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System # TTOFTUN4 on 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser
  • The Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System, part # TTOFTUN4, mounts where your factory bump stops are mounted. To install part # TTOFTUN4, you will have to remove the factory bump stops and replace with the Timbren System. To remove the factory bump stops, it may be a good idea to use penetrating oil like item # L10444 if you have a hard time getting the bump stops loose. I have linked instructions for the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System, part # TTOFTUN4.

  • Recommended Front Suspension Enhancement Product for 2000 Toyota Tundra
  • For the front suspension of your 2000 Toyota Tundra, I would recommend the Timbren # TTOFTUN4. The Timbren Aeon hollow rubber springs help eliminate front end sag caused by snow plows or other heavy front end loads. The Timbren system is designed to replace the factory bump stops. Unfortunately, Firestone does not have a similar item compatible with your truck. I have linked you to an FAQ article that contains additional information about Timbren Suspension Enhancement products.

  • Front Helper Springs for a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser
  • Yes the Timbren helper springs, # TTOFTUN4, will work well to keep the front of your 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser from sagging. But if you are having problems because the front suspension is worn you will want to fix that first because suspension enhancement is meant to be used with stock suspension that is in good working order. Then using the Timbren springs will prolong the life of the vehicle suspension. I have linked the instructions and a help article on Timbren suspension for you.

  • Does 2007 Toyota Tundra Need Suspension Replaced When Installing Suspension Enhancement
  • If the suspension is in good working order then you would not need to replace it, but you should note that our suspension kits do require suspension on the vehicle to be in perfect working order and cannot be used as a band aid for worn out components. The part # TTOFTUN4 is a fit for your front axle and then the part # F2445 is a fit for the rear.

  • Front and Rear Hitches for 2018 Toyota Tacoma 4WD
  • The rear-mount trailer hitch I recommend for your 2018 Tacoma is the Draw-Tite Max Frame model # 75238 which offers a substantial 7K towing capacity and 1050-lb tongue weight rating. This hitch is a simple no-drill bolt on install as shown in the linked video and the photo shows the clean appearance. It is a perfect match for the Taco's 6400-lb towing capacity. If you need 4-pole trailer wiring order part # 118685 or for 7-way wiring order part # 22117. Both plug in at your Taco's taillights. For...
