Troubleshooting Compressor for Firestone Air Springs that Won't Shut Off

Updated 09/24/2022 | Published 08/31/2018

Question:

I have a Firestone Ride Rite system on a truck I just purchased used. Last night the pump came on and would not turn off. The controller showed pressures exceeding 100 psi - and the only way I could turn it off was to disconnect the wiring even after turnin off the ignition. What could be wrong? I have had no luck contacting the Firestone RR tech support - so thought I would ask you

It sounds like there may be a wiring issue or blown fuse on your Firestone compressor system like the part # F2543. The compressor should only run when the vehicle ignition is on, and even then only if the tank needs air. Check to make sure there isn't a blown fuse that needs to be replaced or any exposed or pinched wiring that might be causing a short. You can also test the compressor by itself to see if it's faulty by connecting it directly to the battery through fused wire.

If you still can't find the issue please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.

Relay switch stuck open. Only possible source of power for compressor . Ignition on opens relay switch for power to flow.

You'll have to check your owner's manual or you could call your local dealership and have them find out.
