Specs:
The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The circuit board is sealed, which means that water will not damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Peterson Piranha LED clearance or side marker trailer light. This is a submersible light sealed with some epoxy on the back here to keep our diodes protected from any kind of water or debris from getting in there and causing any damage. You can see it's a nice thick epoxy, so we don't worry about anything getting in there and causing any issues.Wire coming out of those diodes. We'll have our black wire for power, white wire for ground. And this can be used with a bracket. It's just as a surface mount bracket that is sold separately here at Etrailer.com.
That part number is B169-18, just a little black bracket that this pops into and then it'll hold it in place and kind of finish out that backside of the light. To get this mounted up, you will need to use some hardware that is also not included with this. You have to pick some up separately, but the nice thing about this is that it is a LED lights. We don't have to worry about any kind of maintenance with this. There's no bulbs to replace, no filaments that can break, so once you install it, it pretty much is good to go.It's better able to withstand shock and vibration with a durable SMD construction of the LED circuit board, which just means that it has surface mounted diodes. And that also allows for a better distribution of heat, and also thinner construction of that diode plate, so it's going to last a lot longer.
Compatible with 12 volt DC systems. This is DOT compliant, and it's P2 rated, so that basically means that it's visible from the front but not so much from the side.So if you want to use this as a side marker light, it can't really operate as a clearance light at the same time. I'm going to connect this to my power source so you can see how bright it is. Again, black wire is going to be our power, white wire with that ring terminal already on it is our ground. That ring terminal is a number 10 ring terminal.Let's see, my light comes on there, and we have our two diodes.
Turn the light out in the studio and get a better idea of how bright that is. So not terribly bright but enough to be DOT compliant and make sure that everybody can see our trailer in low light situations. But as you can see, clearly visible from the front, you turn it to the side not quite as visible. So that's why it gets that P2 rating.Disconnect our wires and let's go over some measurements. The length of the light is about four and a 16th inch, width is about one and a 16th, and then the height is right about one inch.
The length of our wires coming off of it, it's about five, five and a half inches. The distance between our mounting holes, center to center is about three inches. The power draw at 12 volts for this light is 0.03 amps and the input output voltage is between nine volts and 16 volts DC. It comes with a 10 year limited warranty from Peterson, and that's going to do it for our look at the Peterson Piranha LED clearance or side marker trailer light.
