Looks like quality parts. For the money I don't see how you can go wrong.

Lights were just as described and packed very nicely. Corrosion proof tag mount is just cheap plastic and a bit misleading. Just say it is plastic.

  • Troubleshooting Dimming Trailer Lights When Braking And Using The Turn Signal
Hi Doug, Based on the symptoms you're describing it just sounds like you're dealing with a lack of power. Everything works until you start putting too much of a load on the harness. Does your Suburban have a factory tow package/7-way or did you have to install one aftermarket? Older vehicles used to pull power from the vehicle tail lights to power the trailer lights and ended up drawing too much power and causing the lights to dim. In this kind of situation you can either replace the wiring...

  • Difficulty of Installing Optronics Trailer Light Kit # TL29BK On Small Trailer
A light kit like the Optronics Trailer Light Kit, part # TL29BK, for your trailer is a fairly simple installation if you have average mechanical abilities. I am including a link to a video of the light kit being installed on a trailer and another video of a review on the light kit. These videos will help you with the installation process. Also, I am including a link to a FAQ page on trailer wiring.

  • Is There Difference Between Optronics Taillight Kits TL5RK and TL29BK
The Optronics kits part # TL5RK and # TL29BK are both very similar. Only real difference is there is a slight housing design difference between the two main taillight assemblies with the # TL29BK having the more recent design. Both are great kits that will hold up really well, better than what came on your Harbor Freight trailer for sure.

  • Is the 4-Way of the Standard Trailer Light Kit # TL29BK Compatible with OEM 4-Ways on Vehicles
The 4-way of the Standard Trailer Light Kit # TL29BK that you referenced is the standard trailer wiring 4-way that is found on most trailers that would also be compatible with an OEM 4-way trailer wiring harness on a vehicle. They use a standard 1157 bulb. For a replacement you would want the # A1157B. The gauge of wire in this kit is 18.

  • How do I ground my Standard 4-Way Y Harness on my Trailer
Yes you are right on track here. The Standard Trailer Light Kit with 25' Wire Harness part # TL29BK has a single white wire that need to be connected to trailer. This wire provides the ground connection from your tow vehicle to the trailer once that is done all of the light ground themselves to the trailer through the metal studs used to connect them. Attach the white ground wire directly to a clean, bare section of the trailer frame using a self-tapping screw and ring terminal. For...

  • Ways to Install New 4-Pole Trailer Connector
Four flat trailer wiring, also called 4-pole wiring, uses four wires and pins configured as shown in the linked photo of a trailer side 4-pole connector. The one pin that is different from the other three (on both trailer and vehicle side connectors) will be the ground pin and this usually has a WHITE wire that will ground to a clean bare metal spot the trailer frame with a ring terminal. The next pin is for the running light circuit and this typically uses a brown wire to activate the...

  • Wiring a 2011 Victory Motorcycle and Trailer for Towing
For simplicity, I would recommend wiring the motorcycle trailer as a vehicle trailer would be. A powered converter wiring kit, like part # C59496, would be connected to the motorcycle, which would provide a 4-pole trailer connector. The converter combines the brake lamp and the directional signal onto one circuit. The 4-pole connector utilizes four circuits, the white wire which is the ground, the green wire carries the right turn and brake light combined on one circuit, the yellow wire...

  • Locating a Lighting problem on a Boat Trailer with 4-Way Flat Wiring
It sounds as if the trailer wiring is wired properly. You can splice into the brown tail light wire at any point and run it to the other side of the trailer. As long as the connector on your vehicle is wired and grounded properly the problem is with the trailer. A couple of things to look at would be the connection of the tail light mounting brackets to the trailer and the license plate bracket on the left side. If the mounting brackets are bolted to the trailer frame, remove them and...

  • Troubleshooting New Wiring On Landscape Trailer Working Until Taillights Were Wired In
Since the running lights worked until you installed the tail lights on your trailer, it sounds like a bad/weak ground. How exactly did you ground the main ground up front? I'd check that it's secured to clean metal and didn't come loose. It's a tell tale ground issue symptom that when multiple lights are powered the ground cannot handle that much load and turns off. Let me know what you find and we can continue troubleshooting if needed.

  • Troubleshooting Running Lights Not Working
There are many, many different reasons why your lights could not be working. In many cases a bad ground is to blame for this type of issue, but in order to determine the specific problem you will need to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your taillights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals, if not then the issue is with the vehicle wiring....

  • How To Ground Trailer Tail Lights Without a Ground Wire To a Wooden Surface
The Standard Trailer Light Kit with 25' Wire Harness part # TL29BK as I am sure you noticed grounds via the mounting hardware therefore there is not a singular ground wire. In order to attach this light to a wooden surface you will need to run a ground wire yourself up to the trailer tongue using the mounting studs on the back with ring terminals part # DW05705-1 and wire part # 12-1-1. The other option you have is to use the Peterson LED Light Kit for Trailers part # V944 which does have...

What you would want to do is run the white wire on your trailer's wiring to the ground screw area of the trailer light to ensure that the ground will be sufficient for the light. Then you would just run the power wire to the single wire of the light and you would be good to go.

Since you have tested the vehicle side connector and they work correctly, you have eliminated the vehicle side as being the problem. The Peterson M545 trailer wiring kit you have mentioned uses a wishbone harness like the Optronics Standard Trailer Light Kit # TL29BK that we sell.
