Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Dexter U-Bolt Kit for mounting 5,200 to 7,000-pound round trailer axles. Now this kit is designed to fit axle diameters of three inches, which is going to be your typical 5,200 to 7,000-pound axles. And this kit includes everything that you see here on my table before me. You're going to receive four seven-inch long U-bolts and then two U-bolt plates for 1 3/4-inch or two-inch springs, and then eight 1/2 inch by 20 nuts. And the spring seats.

Spring seats are required for mounting the axle to the leaf springs, and those are gonna be sold separately from this kit. Now, if we measure from the inside of the U-bolt to the bottom of the bolt post, that's gonna give us our seven-inch measurement. And these are tapered where the axle sits to help the U-bolt stay in place on your axle. And the area between the bolt post measure three inches. So that's where we are...

That's where we get the spring width fitting from. And then the diameter of each one of these bolts measure half an inch. And of course, the plates that are included are designed to fit these U-bolts. Well, that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.

Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

  • Recommended Suspension Upgrade for a 2021 Grand Design Solitude
Hey Frank. The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket item # SS26MV you were looking at are going to take some of the bounce out of your trailer's suspension. They will smooth out your ride as they essentially act like shock absorbers so you won't feel as much of the road. You'll need two sets for a tandem axle trailer. I also saw you were looking at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers item # RM-2460-2580. This is by far the...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for 2017 Grand Design Imagine 2600RB
Thank you for providing that information. Leaf springs like the ones you have now typically match the axle capacity on your trailer. Although adding leaf springs with a slightly higher capacity won't hurt, it also is not necessary. Based on the leaf springs and and other information I'm sure you have 3,500 lb axles. Your standard diameter for this capacity would be 2-3/8". In addition to the capacity you want the eye to eye length to match, so we are looking at 25-1/4" long leaf springs. I...

  • Replacement Axle, Hubs, Brakes, and Tires for Older Trailer With Dexter 22834 Hub
Based on the axle and bearing measurements it looks like your trailer was using a Dexter 22834 hub. The Outer Bearing # 1779 has an ID of .938" and the Inner Bearing # 2788 has an ID of 1.50". The outer bearing is slightly off but that may be due to a measuring error. That would also mean you have 5,200 lb axles on the trailer. This is an obsolete assembly so you will need to replace the entire axle. For a replacement you can use the # e55SR. This will stick out an extra 3/4" on either...

  • Recommended Comfort Ride Leafspring Kit for a Trailer w/ 6,000 lbs Axles
Hey Chris. There isn't a Comfort Ride Leafspring kit with 25 1/4" springs but that's ok you found the right one for 6,000 lbs axles. You're giving up the shackle straps and equalizers so the distance will even out. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers - Tandem 6K Trailer Axles item # RM49NQ is indeed the correct kit for your Grand Design Reflection. This kit is specifically designed for trailers that have 6,000 lbs 3" diameter axles. You will also...

Hey Joe, welcome back! With a 35" wheelbase the MORryde AllTrek 4000 Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailers # MR29DR is the correct fit. I verified your Reflection has 6k axles on the Grand Design parts site so the # APUBR-8 is also correct and so is the capacity on the # e88SR. Did you account for the leaf springs flattening out over time? Assuming you did, these will work as a replacement with the 26" eye to eye measurement. The shackle strap length isn't listed on the parts site so you...

Hello Tony, thanks for reaching out. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers # RM-2460-2570 is what you will need for tandem 7K axles. You will also need new U-bolts part # APUBR-8. As far as converting to disc brakes, we sell conversion kit specifically for this purpose. • Replacement Axles for D44 Axle With 86-1/2" Hub Face Measurement
The Dexter Trailer Axle # 8327816-EB would be your best replacement option. This includes the hub/drum and brake assemblies so you won't have to piece that together separately. It matches your 86-1/2" hub face measurement but the spring center is a little off. You will need to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS300 to match your 68-1/2" measurement. You will also need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8.

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks - Tandem 8K, 3" Trailer Axles # RM-2460-2580 will fit any 3 inch diameter axles. The closest rated 3 inch diameter axles we have are the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - E-Z Lube - 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 95" - 7,000 lbs # 8327834-EB. • U-Bolt Kit For 8k 7-Leaf Springs on 7k Axle
Hi FR; for U-bolts you can use the Dexter U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8. This will allow you to mount the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e89FV on your trailer. Keep in mind, increasing the leaf spring capacity does not increase the capacity of your trailer. You're still limited by the axle and other components. What kind of trailer do you have?

  • Upgrading Axle Capacity on 5th Wheel With 3,500 lb Axles
Hi David; a trailer wouldn't be designed where it exceeds the axle capacity without even being loaded. The axles will always be able to handle the GVWR of the trailer. You might not be factoring in the pin weight, which is weight that won't be sitting on the axles. The same is true for tongue weight on bumper pull trailers. You can still upgrade the axles if you want, but it won't actually increase the capacity of the trailer. Even if you swap out the axles, leaf springs, and hubs you...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Montana HC 330RL 2020
Hey Jurijs, the correct leaf spring replacement you'd need is the part # e94SR which is the correct length and capacity. Springs tend to stretch and flatten as they wear out so what you have being a little longer would be correct for the # e94SR. There isn't an alternative to this spring that would be more ideal either. Since your axles would be 3 inch in diameter the correct u-bolt kit would be the part # APUBR-8 that you referenced.

  • Parts Needed to Convert a Tandem Axle Trailer to a Triple Axle Trailer
Daniel, you can add a third axle but you're going to want to keep all of your axles the same size. So if you wanted 6K axles instead of 5.2K then you'd want to swap the other two as well. With that said, to add your third axle you're going to need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8, the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APTT5, and the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,300-lb Trailer Axles # e76SR. • Replacement Leaf Springs and Shackles for 2012 Eclipse Attitude Toy Hauler
Hey Mordechai! I can help you find replacement leaf springs and shackles but you will have to get some measurements. For the leaf springs you either need to measure the flat length or get the spring eye to spring eye measurement. Both of these are explained in the article linked further down on this page. For example, if you find that the eye to eye measurement is 25-1/4" (accounting for it flattening over time) you can use the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4"...

  • What Leaf Springs, U-Bolt Kit, Equalizers, and Wet Bolt Kit do I Need for My Triple Axle Set-Up?
Hello Mike, Thank you so much for the detailed information, most helpful! For the leaf springs, you will want to go with (6) of the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # e64SR. Since you have 7K axles, these are the correct match, as each spring is rated for 3,500 lbs. That pairing is exactly what you want for proper suspension performance. While it might seem like stepping up to a 4,000 lb spring would be an upgrade, it actually makes the suspension too...

We don't have a 7k rated spring that is correct length.
