Replacement Leaf Springs and Equalizer for 2020 Forest River Sierra 5th Wheel

Published 09/15/2024

Question:

I currently have 6 leaf 7000lb assuming 7k springs that measure 25 1/4” center to center on the mounting holes. I’d like to go up if I can to the 8k springs, which i see measure 24 7/8” center to center. Will the minor 3/8” difference matter? Also upgrading to the MR27ZR equalizers. Is there a new spring U bolt kit that comes with the top plate, axle plate and u bolts all together for these new springs since my current ones likely won’t work since it’s an added leaf?

Hello Brian; the 3/8" difference isn't enough to matter so you can use the # e89FV as a replacement. We do have the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8 for 3" diameter axles. This has 7" long U-bolts so you can compare that to what you have now. The additional leaf will add 3/8" so the old hardware may still work but it is a good idea to swap it out while you're making these other changes.

You should also measure your equalizers, or at least the wheelbase, before deciding on the MORryde Shock Absorbing Suspension Equalizers # MR27ZR. These upgraded equalizers are designed for a 35" wheelbase. They also measure 8" between the outer shackle bolt holes. If you find this measurement to be vastly different on your trailer you are better off finding a different option. It is best to choose an upgraded equalizer that matches your current stock equalizer.

If you measure and aren't sure, feel free to leave your measurements as a comment down below and I will help you find the best upgrade.
