Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension 166081 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 3-inch-long shackle bolt with the lock nut for double-eyed springs. This bolt will secure leaf springs to your front or rear hangar of your trailer's suspension system. Does include this lock nut to secure the bolt into place. Now the bolt itself is a grade-5 bolt. The overall length on this bolt if we measure it from the bottom of the head to the very end and see is going to be right at 3 inches. The bolt size is a 9/16th diameter by 18 threads per inch. The bolt head size is 13/16ths of an inch.

I got example here's a socket. You can see it will fit the head perfectly and then the lock nut which goes on the end right, the size on that is 7/8ths of an inch. You can see it fit rights into a 7/8ths inch socket but that should do it for the review on the 3-inch-long shackle bolt with the lock nut for the double-eyed springs.

Well, I just got the parts, so can't say anything reliable on chinese made parts. The price was(is) Great! a boat load cheaper then the local store....humm. springs fit perfectly, however, the springs I wanted are no longer being offered, could of had springs made but I went with the less$isMore theory. (more in my pocket) The "white" nylon bushings I ordered would not fit into the equalizers, but the grey colored ones I had did fit perfectly, just a-hair difference in outer diameter. The bolts fit perfectly as well. It is always 10 times easier dealing with eTrailer then the local store, So I know eTrailer has put a lot of time into making it easy for their customers, Thanks! Very Fast shipping, all at a price I can afford! 355949

Product was just as advertised. Quickly shipped and received in time. Packaging was very well done and organized well with everything there as ordered. My only disappointment was to see the words "CHINA" written in bold letters on my springs. I'd much rather have seen USA. 379590

Purchased replacement springs, equalizers, shackles and all the needed hardware to put it all together for my tandem axle boat trailer. While I was trying to figure out all the parts I needed on-line, I made a couple calls to etrailer's customer service and they were awesome! Parts arrived quickly and are exactly what I needed. I put together one of the spring / equalizer / spring set-ups and placed it on the trailer frame to confirm fit. Perfect! Looking forward to swapping all the parts out this weekend. And I'll be shopping with etrailer again soon to get a trailer hitch for my new Durango! Thanks etrailer! 548557

Well made, hard steel, good threads. This bolt/nut set is more expensive than local no-name bolts, but is of superior quality. 264423

No failures to date. A coat of primer on the ends controls corrosion.

Very good value. Broke Springs on a small center console tender trailer, thought OH boy how am I gonna find parts for this. Searched on-line. Found etrailer and BAM = problem solved. Got springs, shackles, bolts, even an entire spare and tire for a couple hundred bucks and THEY ALL FIT and at least as good quality as the thing was build with. Excellent and pretty quick shipping and delivery for heavy stuff. 711537

I had a trailer spring break this summer on the way home from a 2,700 mile trip. Our small luggage trailer just couldn’t take anymore rough roads. One of the springs broke through the centering bolt. The etrailer.com website and Tammie P. came through with replacement springs and accessories. Thank you Tammie P. And trailer.com! 703496

I don’t recommend these. I had a big issue getting them in without damaging the fine threads. The knurl by the bolt head made me have to use a hammer which I didn’t think I was gonna need. The other issue was that once I tightened the nut ait don’t come off. And had to cut a couple of the $4 bolts replace a few things I missed while fixing the axle/suspension. I ended up going to local hardware store and just replacing all the bolts I purchased with higher grade for even cheaper. 699352

I bought springs, shackle bolts, and u-bolts and plates. Everything was great and fit perfectly. Only issue were the u bolts which were not galvanized. However, at a local trailer store, I bought galvanized U bolts for $4.50 each. For the DYIers, taking the old ones off took more than 4 hours for each side. My existing shackle bolts were so heavily rusted that I had to cut three off with a hack saw. Difficulty was confined space to operate hack saw with boat still on trailer. However, reassembling the new springs was less than 45 minutes each side. Must have tools are large diameter 3/4-13/16-7/8 deep sockets (6 point), 2 2 foot long breaker bars and a can of PB blaster. For safety: Good quality jack stands, minimum of 3--don't rely on the front trailer jack as it may roll. By the way, I did these myself and I am 64 years old. 667342

The bolts are excellent. I used these bolts in conjunction with links to connect the springs to the equalizer and to the hangers. They worked very well except that I could not apply enough torque to the bolts to pull the serrated end into the links. In each case I had to apply considerable force to the head in order to get the serrations into the links. I did not have a large enough air wrench to achieve the necessary torque and using a wrench required an excessively long handle. (I did not have electricity to run an air wrench.) So I was forced to alternately tighten and then drive the head with a large hammer (3 lb) against another flat piece to drive the bolts in, then tighten again until the heads were set. This makes me question the need for the serrations (the original bolts were also hard to remove). A square hole might be better - similar to a carriage bolt. 652878

I bought a used Jon Boat trailer and first time out the shackle bolt gave out. Perfect fit for my application and I really like the way the nut was made so that it locked on the bolt. I used these with the Never Fail Bushings. I had to drill out the shackle to accommodate this beefy bolts but that wasnt a big deal. I ended up doing both sides that had standard bolts instead of wet bolts. Not sure why only 2 were regular 3/8 inch bolts. 642554

Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Do you have a question about this Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension?

  • Can I Replace 4 Leaf Springs With 5 Leaf Springs For The Axle On My Trailer
  • Yes, you can replace your 4 Leaf Springs like part # SP-221275 with 5 Leaf Springs like part # SP-111275 as long as you replace all of the springs at the same time. There really isn't any advantage if you want to go with 5 leaf springs over 4 leaf springs. Typically, you always want to try to get the same parts to replace what you already have, but 1/8 of an inch difference per leaf spring won't make much of a difference in how everything fits together. The 5 leaf springs will work just...

  • Hangers to Use with Leaf Spring SP-212275
  • The spring you ordered # SP-212275 would work well with the hangers # 115917 and # 30-20 with shackle straps # TRSL350. These parts are very similar to what comes with the # APS1 which is what is recommended with the springs you ordered. Only thing else you might need is the shackle bolt part # 166081. The distance between the hangers would need to be 24-7/8 inches.

Your setup as described is a standard setup for leaf spring hangers and double eye leaf springs. The # 166081 is made by the same manufacturer and is used more commonly than zinc plated for most factory applications. The cost difference comes down to supply and demand. The Dexter bolt # 007-003-01 is simply a different manufacturer that has a big name in the trailer axle market. ...

You can also use a wet bolt like # 126B2, for less friction. • Comparing Bronze and Nylon Bushings for Trailer Suspension
  • It really just depends on what you are looking to get out of the bushings. Bronze bushings, like part # K71-291-00, will last longer but are more noisy and it is recommended to use wet bolts like part # 126B2 to keep them lubricated. Nylon bushings, like part # SP05-060, are much quieter and can be used with regular bolts like part # 166081 since they don't need to be lubricated as much. As far as lifespan goes the bronze will last longer but not so much longer that they are much better...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Leaf Springs for 2007 Weekend Warrior Model CR3905
  • I was able to find out that your 2007 Weekend Warrior model CR3905 is triple axle trailer with a GVWR of 16k. That means for each axle you'd need a capacity of at least 5,333 lbs. Which means you most likely have 6k axles. We have a few options for that capacity for leaf springs but you'll need to measure the length of your current springs to be sure. If you have 25-1/4 inch long springs you'd need part # SP111275. If you have 26 inch long springs you'd need part # SP-053275. If...

  • Can Suspension Wet Bolts Be Used with Both Nylon and Bronze Bushings
  • You are correct that wet suspension bolts like # LC126238 are usually used along with bronze bushings for the longest possible service life but using them with nylon bushings is permissible. If standard bolts like # 166081 were to be replaced with wet bolts it would be fine to continue using the existing nylon bushings (for convenience) but in an all new installation bronze bushings would be preferred.

For 1-3/4 inch springs you will want the Shackle Bolt with Locknut for Double-Eye Springs - 3" Long # 166081. • Replacement Leaf Springs for Single Axle Trailer with 26 Inch Long Old Leaf Springs
  • Correct, the loaded and unloaded length for a leaf spring will be different. In order to choose the correct replacement you will need to remove all weight from one side of the trailer and then measure the eye to eye spacing of that leaf spring. The new leaf spring you choose should then be very close to this but it can also be a bit shorter as leaf springs will flatten out over time as they wear. The amount of leafs do not matter as much as long as the spring is rated for your axle capacity. I recommend TruRyde Shackle Link part # TRSL225. The shackle straps are 2-1/4" long. • If you use a higher rated leaf springs on a lower rated trailer they will work but will cause stiffness in your ride quality. This is due to the trailer not being under the heavier weight therefore less flex of the springs, using a higher rated spring will not increase the capacity of the trailer because the trailer itself cannot support more than the stated 3,000lbs of weight. When replacing leaf springs you will want a new u-bolt kit like # APUBR-1, the correct shackle bolt like #...

  • Replacement Shackle Strap Recommendation that is 3-1/2 inches Long
  • Your question came in blank, but based on the picture you submitted it looks like you are in need a replacement shackle strap that is 3-1/2 inches in length.
