Will Longer Equalizer Cause Problems for Trailer Suspension

Updated 01/09/2026 | Published 01/05/2026

Question:

I ordered a new leaf spring kit for my 3500 lb axle. The new equalizer is slightly larger than the old one. I only replaced it on one side of the trailer. Is this going to cause a problem? I asked the supplier of the parts and they said should be okinch but i want a professional opinion Thanks chip

Hi Chip; you might be able to get by with that, but I don't think it is worth risking issues with your suspension. As far as equalizers go it is quite a bit longer than your old one. Standard equalizers are pretty inexpensive, and a problem would potentially be very expensive, so I would get an equalizer that matches.

I see your old equalizer is marked 13-10 but it doesn't line up with the standard 13-10 design. If you can measure your old equalizer and add those dimensions to the comments below I can see what is available. I attached a picture below showing where to measure.

@Chip I updated your measurement based on your email. You can use the Curved Equalizer # TREQ104.

@Chip it does not but you could get a full kit with the bolts and 2-1/4" shackles straps # AP233. If you just want bolts they should be 3" x 9/16" # 166081. If you want to upgrade to wet bolts and heavy duty shackles you can use # MR46ZR. If you get either of the kits make sure your shackle straps measure 2-1/4" center hole to center hole since you want those to match as well.
