Video Transcript for Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack Review

Today we're going to take a look at and then show you how to install the Dutton-Lainson A-frame trailer jack. This is a sidewind 1,000lbs capacity version. Part number is DL22530. The Dutton-Lainson is a great solution for a light duty jack that still has some nice heavy duty components built in. The heavy duty gear sit up here in the top, it gives you a nice smooth operation going both up and down. The entire outside they have what's called the tough plate coating on it, so we're going to have superior corrosion resistance. It's going to last a long time and keep working really well for us.

The handle you can see it's not one of the formed metal types, it's going to be a solid rod style. You've got a ergonomic grip design down here with finger grips and it's also attached so it should really help you get a good grip even if it's raining or something like that outside. With the provided hardware we'll easily be able to attach this to our trailer, or since it has the nice thick flange that goes around we could also weld this on and then paint it to match. Now, let's go over a couple of measurements so we know what kind of clearances we're going to need and what kind of range we have on the jack. The first with the jack in it's fully extended position we only have about 23 1/8 to our bracket or to our flat mounting location that your jack goes down on to. Now from that surface to the top of the jack, we'll have about 15 1/2 inches.

Then from that surface to the top of our handle about 20 1/2. Now from the center of our jack to the furthest part of our handle we'll have about 6 1/2 inches. Just make sure you have the clearance that you need to make that work. Here you see the jack in it's lowest position. We're going to give it another bracket height for you.

Looks like that's going to be about 8 1/4 inches. With our existing jack removed you can see the requirements of what we're going to need here. We need a 2 inch diameter large hole. Then we want 3, either threaded or drilled out, holes that are going to be 3 inches apart from one another, so from the middle one to the middle of the other is about 3 inches. That being the case that's going to accept the 2 inch tube on our jack. Then the leg that comes out to an inch and 3/4, as you see it's drilled for accessories just so you know if you're going to be picking those up you need the inch and 3/4 version.

Then we can just slide the jack right into place and line up our holes. We'll take the provided bolt and lock washer, we've put on our own flat washer, and then we'll thread these right in. That is something unique about this jack is that they actually provide hardware. If you don't have a threaded hole for these to thread down into they've also provided you with nuts that will go on the back side and secure it if you've got a hole that's drilled all the way through. Once that's all started we'll just run them down until they make contact. Then we can torque them down to our specification. With everything secure that's going to complete today's look of the Dutton-Lainson A-frame trailer jack. Part number DL22530. .

*Although I have not installed the trailer jack yet it looks like a direct replacement for the original one on my boat trailer. The wheel that goes with the jack definitely looks like a better fit than original. *The electrical 4 conductor plug set... I'm using for a quick disconnect for a third ( center ) brake light for tailgaters 295416

Ask the Experts about this Dutton-Lainson Trailer Jack

  • Is There A Trailer Jack Compatible With 1-1/2 Inch Hole On Vintage Trailer?
The smallest diameter jack we have with a footplate or wheel is the A-Frame Trailer Jack - Sidewind - 1,000 lbs. by Dutton-Lainson # DL22530. This is 2 inches in diameter at the top and 1-3/4 inches at the bottom, so you will need to enlarger the jack hole in your coupler. This is compatible with the Removable Wheel # DL22414 and the Removable Steel Foot with Pin # DL22541. I've attached a couple videos to assist.

  • Replacement Sidewind A-Frame Trailer Jack with 2 Inch Diameter
The jack mounts used on a-frame trailers usually follow an industry standard pattern which is a 2-1/4" hole opening and three mounting holes spaced 3" apart. I have attached a photo to show this for you as well. If your trailer coupler does not follow this pattern and you indeed only have a 2" diameter hole to fit the jack through then I recommend using the A-Frame Trailer Jack part # DL22530 which has an outer tube diameter of 2". As long as the tongue weight of your trailer does not...

  • A-Frame Jack With 2 Inch Outer Diameter For Trailer
We have a pair of A-frame jacks with a 2" outer diameter, though the inner tubes of these jacks have a 1-3/4" diameter. These A-frame jacks are the manual A-Frame Trailer Jack # DL22530 which has a 1,000 lb capacity, an extended height of 23-1/4" and a retracted height of 8-1/4" for 15" of travel. It does not come with a foot but you can add either the Removable Wheel # DL22414 or Removable Steel Foot # DL22541. The other option is the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack...

  • Replacement A-Frame Jack With 2 Inch Outer Tube
For your 1999 Jayco Glacier Heritage trailer, I recommend the A-Frame Trailer Jack - Sidewind - 1,000 lbs. by Dutton-Lainson # DL22530. This is the only jack we have that has that 2 inch outer diameter upper tube. For a foot you'd want the part # DL22541 and then for a wheel part # DL22414. If you need a topwind model like you stated wanting, you will need to enlarge the hole in your coupler to accept the standard 2-1/4 inch outer tube. You can use a hole saw, a rotary grinding tool,...

  • A-Frame Trailer Jack Recommendation with Outer Tube Diameter of 2 inches
It is harder to find trailer jacks with 2 inch outer tube diameters, but the Dutton Lainson part # DL22530 does have that outer tube size. For a foot you'd want the part # DL22541 and then for a wheel part # DL22414.

  • Recommended A-Frame Jack With Close To A 1-7/8 Inch Diameter
For an A-frame jack that meets that diameter criteria, I recommend the A-Frame Trailer Jack by Dutton-Lainson # DL22530 . This jack will have an inner tube diameter of 1- 3/4 inches and an outer diameter of 2 inches. It is constructed of heavy duty steel and has a zinc plated finish to resist corrosion. With this jack, I recommend the foot plate # DL22541 or the wheel # DL22414. These inner and outer dimensions are as close as we come to the 1-7/8 inch diameter.

  • A-Frame Trailer Jack with an Outer Tube Diameter of 2 Inches
An A-frame trailer jack that fits your 2 inch outer tube diameter is the Dutton-Lainson # DL22530. It provides 15 inches of lift and has a 1,000 pound capacity. When fully retracted you'll have about 8-3/4 inches of clearance. Of the 2 inch diameter jacks we carry this is the least amount of clearance available.

  • 2 inch Outer Diameter A-Frame Trailer Jack Recommendation
I have good news, our trailer jack that has a 2 inch outer diameter part # DL22530 would fit and work well. While it has a 1,000 lb weight capacity that does not mean 1,000 lb total trailer weight capacity. That capacity is the tongue weight capacity which is normally 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. So your trailer would be looking at around 150 lbs of tongue weight which would be no problem for this at all.

Yes, we have the Dutton Lainson A-Frame Jack # DL22530 which has an outer diameter of 2 inches. This jack has a 1,000 lb capacity and has the optional foot part # DL22541 or wheel caster part # DL22414.

  • What is the Circumference of Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack, # DL22530
The outer tube of a jack is usually measured in diameter. The diameter of the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack, # DL22530, is 2 inches. If you take the diameter and multiply it by pi to get the circumference, it ends up being 6.28 inches. You would need a jack that measures 2 inches to 2-1/16 inches in diameter. I went out to the warehouse and all of the smaller A-frame jacks I measured had that 7 inch circumference. However, I do believe I have a solution for you. While I was out...

To replace the AL-KO A-Frame jack on your 2003 Viking Legend Trailer, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack # DL22530. This A-frame jack features a 1,000 pound weight capacity, a 2 inch outer tube diameter and 15 inches of total travel. It has a distance of 15-1/4 inches from the bracket to the top of the jack. Most jacks have an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4 inches. We do have a jack that is slightly smaller with the outer diameter being 2 inches. It is the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack # DL22530. This will be a great option for your 1948 Mobile Sportsman Camper but you will need to enlarge the hole on your A-frame coupler. • Recommended Replacement A-Frame Tongue Jack for 4500 lb Utility Trailer
Sorry to hear about your jack. I'd be happy to make a recommendation. Since a trailer's tongue weight is generally 10-15 percent of its total weight, you'll be in the 450-675 lb tongue weight range. We have jacks with tongue weight capacities starting at 750 lbs, but I always recommend going with a heavier capacity than you need. The jack (and you) won't need to work so hard to raise the trailer, and it will therefore last longer. The Bulldog # 2000 lb capacity A-Frame Jack, part # BD155033...

  • Which Way Will the Handle Face on the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack # DL22530
The orientation of the handle on the A-frame trailer jack # DL22530 will depend on the hole pattern on the trailer. The jack uses a 3 hole pattern that is basically in the shape of a triangle. The handle will be in a different place depending on how you want to mount it. Normally, the handle would be off to the left side of the trailer.

This obviously has the A-frame mount integrated but is the only option we currently have for a 2 inch outer diameter jack. Most of the inner tubes have that diameter. • Recommended A-Frame Trailer Jack for Tongue Weight of Less Than 500 lbs
An A-Frame Trailer Jack only needs to have the capacity to lift the tongue weight since it is positioned on the trailer tongue. For a trailer with a dry tongue weight of under 500 lbs I recommend the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Jack # DL22530; you could then add a foot plate with # DL22541 or wheel with # DL22414 depending on what you need. I've added links to video reviews of these products for you to take a look at as well.

  • Does Capacity of Trailer Jack Relate to Total Weight or Tongue Weight of Trailer
The lifting capacity of a trailer jack like the part # PSEJ10000101 that you referenced is relative to the trailer's tongue weight. So the part # PSEJ10000101 has a 1,000 lb tongue weight capacity which would work well for your current trailer as it most likely has a fraction of that as tongue weight. Since your trailer has an A-frame jack on it currently the part # DL22530 might be the better choice for a replacement as that is what this style of jack is.
