Video Transcript for etrailer Round A-Frame Trailer Jack Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Etrailer round A frame trailer jack. This is a top wind design with 15" of travel and a 5000 pound capacity. Part number is TJA-5000T-B. Now this jack's designed to be very easy to help raise and lower the front of your trailer for either hooking it up for disconnecting it for the truck. It's gonna offer 15" of travel. This is gonna allow you to really elevate the front of your trailer if you're gonna be using this in a marine style applicant or maybe something you want to be sure that the water runs off, like your camper or something.

The top line handle is gonna have a knob here. A good grip surface is all the way there so you can really get a good hold of it and then whether you want to raise or lower. As you can see, we've got plenty of leverage. We've got good handle length here, so as we turn it, it's gonna be pretty effortless, even when we do have bigger loads on the trailer. The handle can also be tucked away and stored in the lowered position when not in use. This is just gonna help reduce the risk maybe of you running into it walking around the trailer.

Now the biggest advantage that I see with the top wind jack as compared to a side wind jack is that with the top wind jack, you completely eliminate the gears. On the side wind, the handle goes in. There's a gear there and then that turns the base gear, which turns the screw. We've eliminated that whole mechanism. We've got our handle attached directly to the screw, which runs down through the tube into a nut on the top of our lower foot.

So as we lower the jack, that nut simply moves up the screw. As we raise the jack, it's gonna move down the screw. That's gonna give us the raise and lower effect. Really neat, simple design. Everything's gonna be inside of the jack.

So you really don't have to worry about corrosions and there's very little chance of failure. Now the overall quality and the overall feel of the jack is nice. Looks like they finished it off really well. We've got some really nice welds. These are gonna go all the way around out flange here, all the way around our cap at the top. Then of course, a nice black powder coat finish. That's gonna be on the outer tube on the flange and on the inner tube of the jack. Pairing that with the zinc coating that we have on our handle and all of the hardware, this jack should resist corrosion for a long time to come. Now this jack's designed to work with many different applications. The 2 1/4" hole is gonna be a requirement. It's made to work on an A frame trailer. Now we're gonna go over a few of the specifications, measurement wise just so you can ensure that this is gonna fit for your application. When the jack is fully extended from the top mounting plate of your trailer to the ground is gonna be about 25". When it's fully retracted, that's gonna be about 10". From the mounting plate on your trailer to the top of the handle is gonna be able 14 1/2". To that lowest part of the handle, it's about 10 7/8. The handle is gonna have a total radius from the center of the jack to the outside edge of 8". Now the installation process of your jack is gonna start by removing the old jack and to do that, you're gonna need to support your trailer one way or another. You can see we've used jack stands here. Chalk your wheels. Make sure your trailer's not gonna roll. You could also leave this connected to your truck or your tow vehicle and then just raise the jack so that the bottom of it comes up off the ground. Then you'll remove whatever hardware they've got holding that jack in place. Now the outer tube on this jack is 2 1/4" in diameter, so the only real requirement that you're gonna have is the 2 1/4" hole or slightly larger hole for the jack to fall down into. Then we're gonna have three attachment points in most of the A frame setup, so as we bring our jack down and in, those will line up for us. Now for the installation hardware, you typically will reuse your old hardware. You just want to inspect it and make sure it's of good quality. If yours looks damaged or if there's any kind of issues with it, just get it replaced so you'll have plenty of support for the jack. The minimum requirement for the jack is gonna be a grade 5 3/8 bolt. You can pick whatever length is gonna be applicable for your situation. We're gonna use a couple of flat washers, a lock washer, and a nut just to get everything secured together. We'll have these in three locations. I'm gonna take the bolt and run that down through and on the bottom, we'll want to put on our flat washer. We can put on lock washer. We'll also get our nut threaded on. We're gonna do that at all three of our locations. Now we'll go around and just secure our bolts down. We're gonna be using 9/16 since we've got 3/8 hardware. If you've got a different size bolt, you might need different size tools and these don't require a whole lot of torque. Check your instructions for the specifications there. Now we'll go through and get all of our bolts torqued down to those specifications. Now we can just lower it down and our jack will be ready for use. That's gonna complete our look at the Etrailer round A frame trailer jack, part number TJA-5000T-B. Speaker 2: Now that we've seen the video on the Ram 5000 pound top wind jack, what do you guys think Speaker 3: I think it looks like it's a well made jack, like some of the other Ram stuff that we've seen. Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got all the standard features. It's got a little longer handle on it for a little more torque when you're raising and lowering the trailer, 8" compared to some of the other ones, which are only about 6 or 7". It's got a hole in the bottom of it, drop leg or the bottom tube so that you can attach attachments like a foot plate or a drop leg or a wheel. Speaker 4: Yeah as he was using it, you could tell it's a smooth raise and lower. It seemed like it was built pretty solid. Speaker 2: Yeah. Speaker 5: inaudible 00:06:05 pretty easy with his finger, which in the new jack, you can't do that, so it does show how inaudible 00:06:09 works and how smooth it is on the inside. Speaker 2: Yeah, especially when you haven't got any dirt or anything in them yet. Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple neat things about it is that it has a washer on the bottom of it. It makes it a little bit easier to spin. You'll also notice too on the handle, like a lot of these jacks, they have a nut bolt instead of a flat washer or something that's just riveted together. If you have to service it, it's gonna be a real pain. This makes it a lot easier. Speaker 2: Yeah, so compared to the Bulldog jacks, what do you think there Speaker 3: Bull dog jack is going to have perhaps a thicker steel on it or maybe a higher quality finish on the surface. But really, depending on what you're using the jack for, do you need those things That's one of the questions you gotta ask yourself. Do I need something that's top of the line or is this basic entry level jack gonna get the job done Chances are, it's gonna get the job done. Speaker 5: But at the same time, if you need to use it, it needs to work well at that time, so you have to consider that as well. Speaker 2: Right, so reasons to buy this jack Speaker 4: I think it's gonna become more cost effective than a lot of other ones. It's gonna do the same job and do it just as well. I mean it's gonna be worked. It's gonna be used. It's gonna be damaged. They're gonna get broke and you want a cost effective object. It's gonna be the better choice. Speaker 2: All right. Speaker 5: You might want to consider it has trailers you can have right now inaudible 00:07:38 jack, you can can be perfectly fine with it. But a lot of times, you got to spin the jack down, get it down to the ground. But this one, it may sit down a little bit lower than what you have originally. So it might take less time to spin down and then lift the jack up too, so that might be something to consider. Speaker 2: Okay. Okey-doke. Well, thanks, guys.

Just installed this jack after the original jack on my trailer collapsed, stripping the threads on the way down. The Ram jack fits like a glove using my original three bolts. My first impressions are that it’s well-built and much smoother than my OEM jack. I paired it with etrailer’s drop foot, and I think I’m set for easier coupling moving forward. 713694

I had to enlarge the lower "support hole" that it had to go through, but otherwise it went in easy. Made in China. Works good though. 491423

Nice Jack! Works well with JF-1005H-Z Drop Leg for etrailer and Ram Jacks. The PS1400600303 Pro Series Round, A-Frame Jack - Topwind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs does not work with the drop leg. Had to learn the hard way. 449969
