Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Idler Hubs to Use with Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit for 7k Axles # HSE7K-TR1SO
Hey Douglas, you are correct you would need an idler hub to go along with the Hydrastar Disc Brake kit part # HSE7K-TR1SO that you referenced. For that the Dexter idler hub part # 42865-KIT would be what you would need as it is the correct capacity, bolt pattern, and wheel stud size at 1/2 inch. This will work perfectly fine with the setup you have on your Kaufman car hauler.

  • Disc Brake Replacement for Boat Trailer With 6k Dexter Torsion Axle
Hi Cliff; the inner diameter of the bearings used on 5,200-7,000 lb axles is the same so you can choose a higher rated hub to match the bolt pattern. You can use the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly - 5,200-lb, 6,000-lb and 7,000-lb Axles # 42865-KIT or if you have E-Z lube axles the # 8-231-9UC1-EZ. We also have the # 8-231-50UC1 or # 8-231-50UC1-EZ if you want galvanized hubs since it is a boat trailer. All of these use 1/2" wheel bolts so make sure your current wheels are compatible....

  • Will Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit Work With Dexter Hub for 7k Axle
The Dexter # 42865-KIT will work with the Hydrastar # HSE7K-T1SO. These fit 8 on 6-1/2 bolt patterns on idler hubs designed for a 7,000 lb axle. Dexter is typically considered to be the highest quality which is why they usually cost more. The # AKIHUB-865-7-2-EZ-K is designed with value in mind but they are still very well built and as far as we can tell just as reliable. This comes pre-greased and will also work with the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit. Personally, I would go with the money...

  • Upgrading Dexter 8-222 Trailer Hubs
The Dexter 8-222 was used on a mobile home axle, according to my research. Mobile home axles are meant for a one time use, so there aren't compatible replacement hubs available. If you need replacement bearings and seals, you will use # L68149 for the inner and # LM67048 for the outer. For the Grease Seal you will need # 10-40. If you can provide the hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center distance, we might have an off the shelf replacement axle that uses common bearing...

  • Replacement Trailer Hub for Dexter 8-155
If you need the 4 lug option you have then no we don't have anything that would work, but based on the # 8-201-5UC3-EZ being a suitable replacement we also know the part # 42865-KIT would too and it does cost less. It is an 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Replacing Trailer Hubs with 1.25", 1.75" Bearings and 2.3" Seal Measurements on Spindle
Thank you for the measurements! From the info you gave me it sounds like you have axles rated somewhere between 5,200 lbs - 7,000 lbs. For this we have the following: Idler hub with 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern - # 8-213-5UC1-EZ Idler hub with 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern - # 42865-KIT Hub and Drum with 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern - # 8-201-9UC3-EZ You will need to use grease seals # RG06-070 for these Hub and Drum with 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern - # 42866UC3-EZ All of these kits have bearings that...

  • Correct Timbren Silent Ride Suspension System for a T@B Tear Trailer
According to my research, your T@B trailer has torsion axles which means the Timbren Silent Ride Suspension System like part # TSR3500S05 will not be a good fit for you. Instead, you will want to use the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension part # ASR35HDS02. This kit will replace the torsion axles you have now and provide up to a 4" lift and the ability to run larger off-road tires. For a compatible hub you will also need the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # 42865-KIT.

  • Can The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT Be Converted To Oil Bath
Hey Randy, In order to switch your Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT over to oil bath you'll need to replace the bearings, grease seal and grease cap. We offer the oil seal # RG06-090, bearings # 25580 and # 14125A, but unfortunately do not have an oil cap compatible with the 2.72" diameter of the # 42865-KIT. You can try reaching out to Kodiak or Dexter for a compatible cap. When swapping over you'll want to really clean of the spindle and make sure that all grease is removed...

  • Will TruRyde Spindle TRU57FR Fit Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly 42865-KIT
The TruRyde #42 Spindle # TRU57FR is compatible with the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT. Since the hub uses bearings 25580 and 14125A, whose inner diameters match up to the spindle dimensions, the hub will work on the spindle. Spindles need to be professionally welded on perfectly straight and concentric to ensure you do not have issues with trailer tracking or uneven tire wear.

  • Off Road Axle Recommendation for Trailer for 8 on 6-1/2 inch Bolt Pattern Hub
The Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR35HDS02 will be perfect for you. It's got a 4 inch lift built into it and is set up for wider tires so it's ideal for off-road applications. And then for a hub with the 8 lug pattern that you need you would want the part # 42865-KIT that you referenced.

  • Ford F-350 Dummy Tag Axle Using Timbren Trailer Axle with #42 Spindle and 8 on 6-1/2 hub
Here is what I would recommend. While all your options would require a lot of modification, the Timbren ASR400S02 only offers 1" of deflection (suspension travel) which would more than likely be easily damaged when driven. I would say to use the Timbren # ASR1THDS01. It offers the most deflection of 3-3/8". That should limit the chance of damage when the main suspension does travel. Timbren doesn't offer any #42 spindles for for this particular item. I recommend having #42 Spindle # TRU57FR...

  • Weight Capacity of Trailer When Using Two 5,200 Lb Dexter Trailer Axle Beams Without Hubs
The Dexter Trailer Axle Beam part # 8327820 has a 5,200 lb weight capacity. Therefore, for a tandem axle trailer this will be doubled and then if you add another 10-15% for tongue weight you'll get your gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) which is the most the trailer can weigh loaded. In regards to hubs, you cannot use a pair from a 3,500 lb axle as they don't have the same bearings, you'll need new hubs for a 5,200 lb axle. I may have an option for you, but there is not a 7000lb axle that can be used with hubs that use the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. We offer the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 95" Long - 7,000 lbs # 8327834 which is 95" long measured hub face to hub face, and has a spring center to spring center measurement of 80" as shown in the included diagram. • Installation of Idler Hub on 7,000 lb EZ Lube Axle
I took a look at the installation instructions in regards to using a the nut retainer as opposed to a cotter pin and it specifies: "1) Finger tighten the nut until just snug ... Once in place the retainer/nut assembly should be free to move slightly. 2) If the nut is too tight, remove the the retainer and back the nut off approximately one twelfth of a turn and reinstall the retainer. The nut should now be free to move slightly."

  • Compatible Parts to Convert Lippert 7K Axle to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
Your Lippert 7K axle would use a 25580 inner and an 14125A outer bearing, so the # 42865-KIT hub you'd looked at would be compatible. The Kodiak # K2R712DAC slip-on disc brake kit is compatible with the 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern used by the hubs you'd chosen and the 5 bolt caliper mount is compatible with the bolt pattern on the brake mounting flange on your axle. • Difference Between Dexter 8 on 6-1/2 inch Trailer Hubs # 8-231-9UC1-EZ and # 42865-KIT
The difference between the two trailer hubs you referenced part # 8-231-9UC1-EZ and # 42865-KIT is that the # 42865-KIT comes with two different grease cap styles and the # 8-231-9UC1-EZ only comes with one, the EZ lube style that has a rubber plug that can be removed for easy access to the zerk fitting of the spindle for greasing. The # 42865-KIT comes with a EZ style cap as well as a standard grease cap. I attached review videos for both hubs for you to check out as well.

  • Would Trailer Hub # 42865-KIT and Hub & Drum Assembly # 42866UC3 Work Well Together
Yes, the Trailer Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT and the Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 42866UC3 would work well together for having a brake axle and an idler axle. The both have the same bolt patterns, weight capacities, and use the same bearings so they would work very well together. I would recommend you install the brake axle on the axle closest to your tow vehicle. I attached a video of how to remove and re-install hubs from a spindle.

  • Available 8-Lug Trailer Hubs for Spindle TRU67FR
None of the available 8-on-6-1/2 hubs use the bearings required for a fit on agricultural spindle # TRU67FR. That spindle requires a hub that uses bearings 506849 and 501349. We have one hub that fits that spindle, part # AH60880FCOMP, but this has an 8-on-8 bolt pattern. We do offer trailer hubs with the 8-on-6-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. These include both hub/drums like Dexter # 42866UC3-EZ and idler hubs like # 42865-KIT and all appear on the linked page.

There are two spindle options for the Trailer Hub Assembly, part # 42865-KIT. The spindle used would depend on the capacity of your axle. For a 5000 pound axle, use part # TRU57FR.
