Video Transcript for Tow Ready Hitch Locks - Standard Pin Lock - 5200 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Tow Ready padlock style one and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver lock for class one and class two trailer hitch receivers. Now if you want to lock your new hitch cover to your hitch, but you don't want to spend a lot of money, this padlock style receiver lock might be what you're looking for. It's economical, it's functional, and it'll unlock quickly with a quarter turn of the key.Basically if you just take the cap off here, and then take one of the keys, and you'll notice as you put it in just turn it a quarter of a turn, slides right off. Now you'll use this hitch lock in place of a standard pin and clip. Prevents theft of your ball mount or hitch accessory, like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. It is a simple snap on design, so you can take the key out, and you can just push it on to lock it.

You don't need the key in it to lock it.It's a nice chrome plated pin, and the key slot right here comes with this nice plastic cover that you can put on it when it's locked to prevent any rust and corrosion. Now a few specs on this. This will work on one and a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch hitch receivers. The pin diameter is half an inch. The overall length from this edge to this edge, let me put a ruler on that, it's going to be right at six and a half inches, and the inside width or usable length on inside is going to be right at three inches.Again, to unlock just take your cap off, put your key in there, turn it a quarter of a turn, it unlocks.

Take your key out, and then to lock it you just slide this through, on the other side just lock it into place. Put your cover on, and you're all ready to go. That should do it for the review on the Tow Ready padlock style one and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver lock for class one and class two trailer hitch receivers.

I needed a lock for my Pro Series 4 bike trailer as it only has a cotter pin and I was taking it off my van every time I went to the trail for fear it would get stolen. Giving it four stars since I haven't given it a test use but it fits perfectly! I could not be more grateful to a previous reviewer for suggesting this solution.

This fits the threaded hitch pin on Reese Pro Series 4bike hitch rack perfectly. Before it was just a cotter pin but now I can lock it up while away biking, great piece of mind.

Customer service helped me with a return and found me the right receiver lock that would work in my application. They were courteous and I received my parts in under five days. Great job!

This works with the Pro Series 4 Bike Rack 2" Hitch Pin as described and secures the bike rack to the vehicle preventing theft. Has a cover which even covers the lock to prevent weather damage.

I am new to bike racks and hitches. I just bought the Pro Series 4 Bike Rack for my Chevy Venture Van with 2 inch hitch. How does this 1 14 hitch lock work with a 2 inch hitch? I dont understand this. Please explain. Thanks ... James
-- comment by: James G - 09/06/2014

This lock may work since the overall length is long enough to accommodate a 1-1/4 inch hitch, but also keep in mind that the diameter is smaller for this lock (1/2 vs 5/8). For your 2 inch hitch and bike rack I recommend using a lock that is designed for 2 inch hitches, like the # 5201
Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Padlock Style for Class III, IV and V Trailer Hitch Receiver
$13.55
. This lock will fit more securely and is rated appropriately for your 2 inch hitch accessories.

Seems very sturdy. Didn't like the scratch marks showing it was a returned item. Since the package was opened and taped closed.

These guys basically do what they say they will do. I had a minor issue which was resolved to my satisfaction. Everyone looks good when things go as they should. It's only when something occurs not according to plan that the integrity of both the individuals and the business they represent come through.

I ordered the wrong size Hitch lock at first, but I'm amazed at the customer service etrailer has given me. I called, they sent me the correct size and return information for the one that was too large. The locks fits and is just what I was looking for. Again, TRULY AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'd definitely buy from etrailer again.

A standard-type hitch lock for preventing the theft of whatever you have inserted into your hitch receiver socket. Seems to be good quality and comes with a weatherproof cover to protect the key tumblers.

Comments
No problems - as advertised. HINT to newbies: :- : From past experience I strongly suggest not discarding or losing the weather-resistant cover.

As usual everything came perfectly and installed perfectly. I've ordered three hitches from you and accessories to go with them and everything always is great!

I purchased this receiver lock to secure and prevent theft of the Oval LED Brake Light Trailer Hitch Receiver Cover - CR-017 I purchased at the same time. I found it easy to install and the lock section was easy to engage and unlock and remove. Very good quality for the price paid. Only reason I didn't give it the highest ranking is that the included lock cover doesn't have a way to secure it to the lock section to prevent its loss. I will buy other products from etrailer.com in the future.

- 5200
by:

Fits well and works great. I purchased an adapter for my hitch to go from the 1-1/4 to 2-1/2. This locks the adapter in place so that someone can't disconnect the adapter and walk off with my bike rack.

- 5200
by:

Excellent product for the application. Lock mechanism still works flawlessly. The year of towing hasn’t even scratched the device on th surface. Still looks new.

- 5200
by:

Great way to lock a bike rack, trailer, cargo carrier or anything else on. Lock is a little big and clunky, I wish the rubber lock cover cap was permanently attached to the lock, because I bet it is only a short matter of time before I lose that piece.

by:

Looks good, just got it. If you bought this as recommend with "Pro Series Eclipse 4 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Tilting - 63124", toss the bar that comes with it (it doesn't fit) and put the lock part on the bar that comes with the Bike Rack!

As stated on your web site the trailer hitch receiver lock does the job. Giving the me the security I need the my Pro Series Bike Rack(63124) with the Anti Rattler Hitch Bolt.

- 5200
by:

Great fit for the Pro Series Eclipse bike rack for 2" hitch. As described in the bike rack description, use the bolt they provide with the lock attachment here. It also works as a stabilizer for the bike rack within the hitch when it is tightened. Would highly recommend!

the problem i had was ,i had to break my old lock off ,and i could not replace it .then i came up with a solution i bought your lock and used the lock part only the stem on my old lock was almost 12 inches long but had the 1/2 shaft size so i just tried your lock part of your lock and it worked like i thought .the lock was used on a tri -pod for a rv fifth wheel trailer .so thank you for making a fine lock.

This receiver lock works great, and seems to last forever. The pin rolls out of the way of the wire harness, and makes it easier to lock. I have the larger version and purchased this for a new car/hitch combination.

Rare to find a hitch receiver lock with longer than 3" shank. This one fits the bill. Wish that the rubber cap is attached to the padlock body so that it'll stay attached.

  • Lock For Curt QuickPin No-Latch Trailer Coupler for 2 Inch Ball
There are a couple of different ways you can lock the Curt QuickPin No-Latch Trailer Coupler for 2" Ball, either with a standard coupler lock, or you can use a 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin lock, since that is the same size as the pin and clip (though you should always use the pin and clip that come with the coupler when towing and not a lock). So to lock it you can use any of the following options, depending on what you prefer: - etrailer Trailer Coupler Lock for Flat Lip 1-7/8" and...

I would recommend hitting the lock with some WD40 to try and get the lock core to release. Use the straw that comes with it to direct the lube into the core as much as possible. You may have to let it soak for a few minutes. Working the key in and out of the core several times can help it penetrate and free up the stuck portion of it.

  • Can Universal Locking Hitch Pin Be Used on Saris Cycle-On Hitch Mounted Bike Rack
Saris uses a threaded hitch pin because the bolt hole going through the shank is threaded. Due to the smaller diameter caused by the threads, a universal hitch lock like the # 5200 wouldn't work. Using the correct lock, part # SA3022 would be your best (albeit expensive) way to secure your bike rack to the vehicle. It might be possible to remove the threaded assembly from the shank of your Saris Cycle-On bike rack, but I don't recommend it for two reasons. 1) You'll lose the anti-rattle...
