Nearly every hitch setup suffers from a bit of slip. This free play between your trailer hitch receiver and your hitch-mounted accessory is completely normal, but it's also completely preventable. By adding the Quiet Hitch to your setup, you can stabilize your hitch-mounted accessory as it sits in the receiver to eliminate rattle, sway, and all that extra play.
Just slip the Quiet Hitch over your drawbar or other accessory. When you slide the accessory into the hitch receiver, position the U-bolt around the collar on the bottom of your hitch receiver. Then place the bar on top of the accessory shank and tighten the nuts onto the U-bolt. As you tighten the Quiet Hitch, the shank of your accessory will be pulled down towards the bottom of the receiver opening, thus securing it in place within the tube.

This thing does a brilliant job of stabilizing the hitch inside the receiver to keep it from banging and rattling around. I have a Curt Euro-style integrated ball and mount so bolt-type stabilizer wouldn't work. The plating does a nice job of staving off rust and the flanged nuts help prevent the hardware from backing off.
Had a hard time finding a hitch stabilizer that would work for my situation. In my case, I am not towing anything but, rather, mounting a bike rack. Also, complicating matters was a converter from 1-1/4" to 2". The rack mounted on the 2" receiver and comes with a screw down bolt to prevent play. Unfortunately, the converter had no such feature and had significant play when inserted into the 1-1/4" receiver of the two hitch. The Roadmaster product completely solved the issue. Very happy with the results.
I bought this because I was a towing rookie. The first time I towed my trailer the noise from the hitch was really loud inside the car. My wife thought the trailer was going to come off.
After researching my problem I came across this product. After installing the noise disappeared. No more banging sounds! I recommend this for a smoother towing experience.
I use this Roadmaster Quiet Hitch U-collar to stabilize the 1.25"-2" hitch adapter which I plug into the 1.25" hitch on my car. The adapter allows me to attach my 2" Kuat bike rack to the car. The Quiet Hitch does a great job of reducing sway. The only thing I don't like about the Quiet Hitch is that you are supposed to use a torque wrench to tighten it, yet another tool to carry along and lose. Even when I snug up the Quiet Hitch flange and lock nuts well with a 1/2" socket, they do tend to loosen after a few miles. Assuming that my Quiet Hitch loosens because I don't use a torque wrench, it would be nice if the Quiet Hitch were made with an airplane-grade retention system that doesn't require torquing to a specific value.
The Roadmaster clamp is perfect for a 1-1/4" setup. We're using it to stabilized a multibike rack with a Curt hitch.
Had a lot of rattling and clunking from the hitch. Rattling with nothing in tow and
clunking when towing( starting & stopping ). This item has made everything nice
and tight.... as usual the service from ETRAILER was terrific. Easy to order and it
arrived quickly. Don't know why anyone would go anywhere else for their trailer-
ing needs.

I didn't think it was going to be robust enough to keep it from wobbling and rattling, but it has totally done the trick. I did add a little thread Lock so the nut don't loosen up.

After buying a piece of junk from HF that did not work and returning it. I looked on etrailer. Same place I bought my hitch. I just put it on and it fits perfect does the job. I got the 1.25 hitch and it’s so simple and and it took less that 1 minute to put on. NO RATTLE thank you for a good product.

Works great I put it on tightened it up. Rechecked 2 days later still tight. I’ve never taken it off since. I use the hitch at least three times a week. I also purchased a 1.25 to 2 inch adapter receiver and ball. No difference in using it on the 1.25 or the 2 inch. Great product. When I sell the car they won’t get the quiet hitch. I’m keeping that.

Just fine and Im about to buy another when my new vehicle is delivered.
The sway is reduced considerably. It’s hard to find anti-rattle in the smaller hitch size!
Just what I needed. Because I use a 2" to 1 1/4" inch adapter for my bike rack the other anti-rattle devices I tried would not fit. The compact design of the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch works perfeclty and etrailer delivered it very promptly. I am very satisfied.

After one year it still works great, simple and effective
Easy to install and it works!
This morning my TWO Roadmaster Quiet Hitched (2" and 1-1/4") arrived. I set about mounting my bicycle rack into my new etrailer.com 2" Draw-Tite hitch on my 2014 Subaru Outback.
I mounted the Roadmaster Quiet Hitches and was very pleased the bike rack went from having over 5" of free-play at the rack head to less than 1/2" of free-play. I no longer need to have a strap from the rack head to the roof rack.
I very good investment.
(it is a long story why I have both 2" and 1-1/4" hitches)

The products have worked out VERY well ... I am much pleased. It was a very good investment. I found I needed to invert the 2 stabilizer because of clearance issues with the rear plastic valance but I see no problems.
I have used this only once. I do which the U bolt and nuts where of a higher grade of steel. I will just have to see how it wears. But I would recommend this if you have a noisy little trailer like we have.
Easy to install and really helps with the swaying back and forth of my bicycle rack on the back of by travel trailer. Highly recommend for any similar application.

Love it! I am not sure how you would use it, but I turned it upside down to stabilize a bike rack. Can't do that with a heavier load, but this way it helps elevate the rack so I don't scrape when backing out of the driveway. Still, I wish this product didn't rust. Only had it a year!
This part installed in less than 5 minutes and it does exactly what it says. I'm using this on a 1 1/4" hitch with a bike rack attached. It's very stable now and no noise/rattling.
I used this with my bike rack hitch attachment and it eliminated all the play between the two pieces. Now it feels like one solid piece with the hitch. Great product!
This product took all the sway out of the trailer as we moved from Calif to Minnesota. Be sure to check it each morning to make sure it's snug. Great product

Wouldnt want to be without it. Have introduced it to several friends and they have been very imprested. So simple but so affective!
Just a bit of background, I have driven the Alaska highway from the East coast to Alaska (as far as Deadhorse) 9 times, so we are well familiar with the road conditions we will meet.
Anti-rattle device will be used to help tighten a hitch mounted luggage carrier for a trip from the East coast to Kodiak, Alaska. Since the carrier was constructed for a 2” square hitch connection, we needed to purchase a 1.25” to 2” converter and secure it to eliminate accumulated looseness. The 2” square end was welded to the carrier and the 1.25” stinger was tightened by welding beads on the stinger and then grinding them to allow a tighter fit. Although these actions tightened the carrier from about 3” play to about ¾” play I needed the anti-rattle fitting to eliminate this last ¾” looseness.
The Roadmaster fitting took out the last ¾” rattle and looseness but it was not without some issues. The U-bolt part of the fitting is about ¾” to 1” wider than the hitch. This means that when the nuts on the Roadmaster fitting are tightened, the U-bolt stretches and deforms. How this deformation will react to the frost heaves and rough roads we will see on the Alaska Highway north of Whitehorse is yet to be seen. It appears the U-bolt is of grade 3 hardness steel and with the over wide size, it may have a tendency to deform or even break under load. We have been very careful to stay within the load limits specified for the hitch on the vehicle and for the carrier. But as those who have traveled Northern roads know, the road surface and frost heaves can sometimes catch you at a higher speed you should be traveling.
My recommendation to Roadmaster would be to narrow the spread of the U-bolt to better match the standard size of the hitch. A second, more important point, would be to make the U-bolt of grade 8 material to better take unexpected loads. We will be checking tightness numerous times on the trip to be sure no unexpected looseness happens.
With the exceptions noted above, the device is well built and should be more than adequate for day to day functions and needs. I'd recommend it without reservations for standard use. Although the price charged for it was on the high side, the exceptionally low shipping cost by ETrailer and their shipping speed and package following were EXCEPTIONAL.

Same comments still apply as far as oversize u bolt and bolt hardness. Although we did not have any problems in the north country, the concerns were still present. Of course that probably made us drive somewhat more cautiously, so it was a good thing. Weve ordered 2 additional items from ETrailer and are STILL VERY HAPPY with their products, ordering, web site and shipping. LOTSof other firms would do very well to follow the ETrailer example. Well be back.
worked a treat, no rattles on my hitch adaptor
The combination of a Swagman XCT2 bike rack and a curt 1 1/4” receiver produced a bit of a side to side wobble when under way. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch alleviated this problem. Sturdy product. I torqued the nuts as specified and have had no issues after a dozen trips. I check them as part of my pre-trip routine. Vehicle is garaged so I can’t comment on how it holds up to the weather. A nice solution to the wobble problem.

Nothing has changed after a year to make me alter my review. Solid product.
The Quiet Hitch works well on my 1-1/4" Honda hitch. My ball mount is loose in my hitch receiver and this helps tighten it up. I also had to install some shims inside the receiver at the rear to keep the rear of the ball mount from moving up and down inside the receiver. I mount the Quiet Hitch with the nuts and large crossbar on top, with the U-bolt underneath caught behind the lip of the receiver and the crossbar resting on the top of the ball mount in front of the receiver. Tighten the bottom nuts on the U-bolt equally, moving back and forth between the two nuts, to avoid bending the U-bolt. Don't over-tighten them. Then, on each side use two wrenches (1/2" or 13 mm, they both work) to tighten the locking nut down while holding the bottom nut. This keeps the nuts from loosening due to vibration when driving. You are using this device to pull the ball mount down so it won't bounce in the receiver. If you install the Quiet Hitch incorrectly such that the ball mount is pulled up, the weight of the trailer on the ball mount will likely damage the Quiet Hitch.

After using it for a year, Im still pleased with the Quiet Hitch. At first, even with it my ball mount would rattle in the receiver because there was so much play at the back between the two. I ed thin plastic shims into the rear of the receiver so the back of the ball mount wouldnt rattle even though the Quiet Hitch was keeping the front solid. Now when my ball mount slides in, the rear is tight up against the shims and the Quiet Hitch keeps the front tightly bolted down. I always take my wrenches with me when I use the trailer in case I have to remove the ball mount for some reason.
I have a Ford Eco that did not have a trailer hitch. I wanted to install a heavy duty bike rack for an ebike. Etrailer had a hitch but the receiver was 1 1/4" and the rack needed a 2". Ordered the hitch and a hitch adapter to size up to 2". I also ordered a keyed hitch pin from Etrailer so the adapter is secure from anyone removing. There was play between the hitch and the adapter causing movement so I then ordered the hitch anti-rattle to lock it all down and now there is no movement at all. This set-up allowed me to have my rack installed and feel secure about the set-up. In addition the service support is excellent. Each purchase was followed up with an email containing a name and number for contact with any issues. I had just recently experienced support failures from another online company where all I had to contact them was an email so this was very refreshing to experience! Overall extremely satisfied with the product and support from eTrailer and will continue to purchase from here!

Glad to hear you found a solution that works for you Diane! Keep in mind that using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by half. For instance, if your hitch has a 300 lb tongue weight capacity your tongue weight capacity will be cut in half. This means that the weight of the bike rack and bikes carried on it can't exceed 50% of the hitch's tongue weight rating.
