Spent a lot of time researching these hitch extenders. This was a perfect fit for my 2014 Chrysler 200. I added a class 1 hitch but needed the extra length so the trunk clears the bike rack when dropping convertible top. Ordered ecomony shipping but arrived pretty quick and great tracking shown on product. 693322

Purchased this extender to use on my daughter's RAV4 which has the spare tire mounted on the rear hatch/door. The extender allowed us to use our two bike hitch rack without interference from the tire. Without it, you can only use the outer tray of the rack as the tire gets in the way of mounting a bike on the inner tray. Good product that served it's intended purchase purpose. 526948

  • Recommendation for Transporting Bikes with Shallow Hitch Pin Hole Measurement on 2017 Honda CR-V
Using a hitch extender like the Brophy # HES6 that you referenced will resolve the shallow hitch pin issue you have on your Honda CR-V's trailer hitch. The issue though, is that the use of this or any other similar adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50%. This means the 150 pound tongue weight capacity you mentioned will be reduced to 75 pounds, which will not be sufficient for the combined weight of your bikes and bike rack. I first recommend verifying the...

  • Can Two Hitch Extenders Be Used Together
The thing about hitch extenders is that with each one you use you end up cutting the hitch's capacity in half. Since you would be using two of them you would end up cutting the capacity by 75 percent. When you combine that with the fact that the # HT5R specifically states that you shouldn't use it with any other hitch extenders I can not recommend you use this setup. If you can get by with just using the # HT5R or just the # hes6 and would still have the needed capacity after being...

  • Shortest Hitch Extender Availability
The shortest hitch extender we have that is compatible with Class I and Class II, 1-1/4" hitch receivers is the Hitch Extender For 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver 6" # HES6. Unfortunately we do not have any hitch extenders that are shorter than that. Keep in mind that using a hitch extender will exaggerate the movement of your bike rack and will reduce the Tongue Weight (TW) of your hitch receiver by 50%.

  • Using a Hitch Extender With Bike Rack on 2006 Honda CR-V
We have what you are looking for, the 6 Inch Hitch Extender for 1-1/4 inch receivers, part # HES6. This will extend your receiver by 6 inches, which will hopefully clear your spare tire. One caution, though. Using this extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. If you have a Class I hitch (see the label on the hitch) your tongue weight capacity will be 200 lbs. Using the extender would lower that figure to 100 lbs. This means that the bike rack and the bikes...

  • Hitch Extender Availability to fit 1-1/4 inch Hitch
Hitch extenders aren't ideal solutions for most applications as they add quite a bit of movement and leverage to hitches which puts quite a bit of strain on them. We do have the Brophy 6 inch hitch extender part # HES6 which fits 1-1/4 inch hitches like what you have. This cuts your hitch capacity by 50 percent too which you'd need to keep in mind.

  • Will Welding Trailer Hitch Extender to Underside of Bumper Increase Tongue Weight Capacity of Hitch
Using a hitch extension will typically reduce the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch by half. You could possibly gain some of this capacity back by welding the extender to the underside of the bumper, but it would be absolutely impossible to say by how much. Yes, you're providing support, but the minute you start welding on the extension, you're changing the molecular structure of the metal which weakens it. Long story short, you can weld the extension as you propose, but you'll...

  • Longest Available 1-1/4-Inch Class II to 2-Inch Class III Hitch Extension Adapter
The aftermarket hitch offered for your 2000 Cadillac Eldorado, the 1-1/4-inch Curt Class II hitch # C12068, has a total tongue weight (TW) capacity of 350-lbs. If you use any adapter you will lose half of this TW capacity because the actual weight load on the hitch will be further from the hitch tube. This greater distance translates into move leverage applied to the hitch tube and this is what causes the loss of capacity. Using any adapter means the hitch TW rating drops to 175-lbs. Hitch...

Yes, hitch extender # hes6 is an extension for 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers and does have a 1-1/4 inch receiver on the other end as well. I have linked a video review of this adapter for you. If you need an adapter to go from a 1-1/4 inch hitch to a 2 inch you can use # HTAD. I have linked a video for this adapter as well. Please note that the use of either extender/adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.

  • Can a 2 Inch Cargo Carrier be Used on a 2014 Mazda 6
All of the trailer hitches for the 2014 Mazda 6 are Class I trailer hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. The only way to use a 2 inch cargo carrier would be to use an adapter # HTAD. The problem with using an adapter is that it reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent from 200 to just 100 pounds. This means the combined weight of the carrier and cargo cannot exceed 100 pounds. A better solution is to install a trailer hitch, # 24908, and then use a Class I...

The Brophy Hitch Extender, part # hes6 will attach to your 1-1/4 inch hitch with a 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin like the Draw-Tite Pin and Clip, part # PC2. I would also recommend the Deadbolt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # 7682 and to help keep the assembly quiet the Curt Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit, part # F-315. Remember, when using a hitch extender your towing capacity and tongue weight capacity will be reduced by 50 per cent.

You should be fine. If you have a Class I hitch, you will have a 200-lb tongue weight at least. The extender will cut your tongue weight in half, leaving you with 100 lbs of tongue weight. Two bikes plus your bike rack only comes to roughly 82 lbs, so you are well under the 100-lb capacity.
