Question:
I have heard that it isnt advisable to tow anything with a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. I am only interested in a very small trailer for extra storage when camping. What is your recommendation? It sounds like others have towed with this car based upon what Im reading on your site. Thanks!

I do have an option for you for extra storage but the owners manual on your 2010 Hyundai Elantra does not recommend using that vehicle for trailer towing. A lot of people still do it but it is not recommended by the vehicle manufacturer and could lead to damage to the vehicle.
Instead I recommend using a cargo carrier on your hitch. If you do not have a trailer hitch yet, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch part # 24795 if you have a Sedan or the Draw-Tite Class I hitch part # 24844 if you have a Touring model. Both of these Draw-Tite hitches are concealed cross tube designs which look better on smaller vehicles because you can't see the bulky cross tube.
I recommend Class I compatible Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110 to carry the extra cargo when you go camping. It measures 47-11/16" long x 19-1/2" wide x 2-9/16" deep. I have attached a video of the cargo carrier on a 2012 Hyundai Elantra for your reference. It also features a 3-3/4" rise in the shank of the cargo carrier to help with ground clearance which is important on vehicles that sit closer to the ground like your Elantra.
If you are planning on putting stuff on the cargo carrier that you don't want to get wet, like clothing I recommend the etrailer Cargo Bag - 9 cu ft Item # e98990 to protect your belongings from the elements. I recommend to secure your belongings with Curt Stretchable Cargo Net part # C18200 and use a trailer hitch receiver lock like part # 5200 to lock the carrier to the hitch.
