This breakaway kit with battery charger activates your trailer's electric brakes if the trailer disconnects from your vehicle. Side-loading case bolts onto your trailer's frame. Designed for trailers with up to 3 axles. Battery included.

This was a replacement for an aging unit. Installation was straightforward. I hope to never need the unit as it would only come in to use in the event of a loose trailer so I cannot comment on it's function.

Good breakaway switch, but no way to know whether the battery is fully charged.

The u-bolts worked great for mounting the battery box on an electric tongue jack. I ended up heat shrinking the leads coming out and then siliconed the hole so no water could get in. I was not able to fully test the break away switch and stop the trailer with the battery but feel confident in the product.

I also bought a new plug with attached junction box. The battery and charger were straight forward to wire. The only problem I had was that my old trailer wire colors did not match the new plug colors. Once I sorted out my wires everything worked well. I think it is a good battery kit

HAD TO DRILL NEW HOLES BUT OTHERWISE INSTALL WAS EASY JUST CUT AND CRIMP WIRES USED HEAT SHRINK AND SEAL BUTT CONNECTORS.

It would be possible to use a running light circuit to run to the charge wire of this kit and there would be a light charge that would occur but the problem is that the running light circuit typically only carries a fraction of the amperage compared to the 12 volt accessory circuit with this being partially due to the much lower gauge wire used for this circuit....

- Is Pulling Out Breakaway Pin of Trailer Breakaway System DifficultBreakaway pins are designed to be somewhat difficult to pull out by hand which helps prevent them from accidentally getting pulled when not needed. I've yanked one out by hand once and I really had to pull hard on it. If this system was ever needed the weight of the trailer would be what pulls it out which is considerably more force than a person could exert by hand. The battery can be tested for 14Vh. During the operation, the system provides a trickle charge to maintain battery voltage. When battery voltage is under 6V, the tester circuit will not have power and the red or green light on the switch will not activate, indicating that the battery is dead. I recommend using a break away kit with a battery tester like item # 20099.
