Video Transcript for Powerbuilt 12 Point Socket with 3/4 Inch Drive Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eights three-quarter-inch drive socket, part number ALL643216. This socket is ideal for tightening down hinge balls to ball mounts, or weight distribution heads. It's a three-quarter inch drive, so you need to be sure that you have a three-quarter inch drive torque wrench, or an adapter. It's a twelve point oversized socket, and it's built to exceed tool standards. This socket features a lifetime warranty. Now let's go ahead and show you how to use it in a typical situation. We've got our weight distribution system here and we need to torque down our ball.

In order to gain access to it, we're going to go ahead and flip it over, so we can gain access to the nut. As you can see, putting a pipe wrench down there, or any other type of wrench, would be virtually impossible. That's where this socket comes in handy. Lets go ahead and drop the socket in, make sure it gets situated. Then we can take our torque wrench and put it into position.

We'll want to set the torque wrench to whatever our manufacturer recommends for our ball mount. Now we can immobilize the other side of our ball, and begin torquing. If need be, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands to hold your other wrench. Looks like we've got it. Now we can flip it over and continue setting up our weight distribution, or, if this was just a standard ball mount, we'd be ready to tow. That's going to complete our look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eighths socket with a three-quarter-inch drive, part number ALL643216.

1-7/8" SAE thin walled socket with a 3/4" drive should be used with a compatible socket wrench (sold separately) to apply torque when installing a hitch ball on a ball mount or weight distribution head. Steel construction resists corrosion.

Review for the thin wall 3/4" drive 1 7/8" socket. This was needed for torquing a hitchball to a weight distribution head. The thin wall was just narrow enough to slip onto the nut down in the head. It was snug but came off after torque was set with abit of care. If you have a tight work space such as l did on this application, you must use a thin wall socket. Product appears quality & should last yrs. 5 stars for product & timely shipping from etrailer...

One year update. After using the socket for the last year to check torque, all is as l would hope. No problems using to keep a check on the 430ft pounds required by manufacturer. Looks new. Has a good finish on the socket. No rust marks anywhere. Expected to last years with care.

I dont use it very often but it gives me plenty of peace of mind knowing that if the hitch ball loosens I have an excellent socket to bring it tight!!

I have had nothing but excellent service from the etrailer. I first ordered parts to upgrade my old equalizer hitch with Clips. They were shipped fast and everything just as ordered. This has been a great upgrade for me. Instead of using pens the clips make it a lot faster to hook up and unhook.

I bought to tighten the nut on my hitch ball on my Equalizer hitch head. After moving the bar receivers out of the way, this socket fit on perfectly and I was able to snug it up. So glad etrailer offers this socket.

Not a high quality socket. Loose fit on Equalizer nut. Haven't used this yet as I just received it, but I am not impressed with the rattley fit on the nut. Hope it lasts awhile. Next time I will get the one provided by Equalizer, assuming this one strips out.

This socket was specifically advertised to be used for tightening the ball bolt for a weight distribution hitch I purchased. But this socket did not fit. I had to cut the socket short so it can fit. It’s a good thing I had the right tool to make this cut (a metal band saw). Before purchasing, take a close look at the dimensions and make sure it fits in your application. The socket worked perfectly after the mod.

Fits the Equalizer trailer system 14,000lb hitch ball bolt perfectly inside the Equalizer hitch head! And who doesn't like "perfect" with a $40 savings over the Equalizer socket price. THANKS etrailer.com

Comments
Have pulled my 12,000lb toyhauler over 8,000 miles with the new ball and Equalizer system and some of the highways got surprisingly rough with no warning, which really took our rig on a bit of a roller coaster ride a few times but the ball and hitch system worked perfectly. Still like my purchase after putting it through some real world conditions.

Amazing quality and worked perfectly on my 14000 lb Equalizer Distribution hitch.. was a 60 second tighten, and was worried this thin wall socket wouldnt fit (silly me) I purchased a 24ft 3/4 drive torque wrench and that did the trick. Definitely keeping this aboard on my travel trailer.

Just what I needed to attach a trailer ball to by new equalizer hitch -- it's needed because the nut is recessed within the hitch.

I've only used it a couple times to take apart my trailer hitch. It's on there pretty good & the socket hasn't split yet. I was leery of the thin walls but so far so good. I used a beefy electric rattle gun + 4 ft breaker bar.

The product is fine but it did not fit my Fastway E2 round bar hitch. I was told that it would fit, in the Q/A it said it would fit...well, it didn't. Maybe it would fit the square bar system...I don't know.

The 1-78 thin wall socket part ALL643216 is the socket needed to install the hitch ball on the Fastway E2 Round Bar weight distribution Hitches. You will also need a 1-18” Socket or Box End Wrench for the Shank Bolts and a 1-116” Socket or Box End Wrench for the shank nuts.

  • Thin-Wall Socket for Hitch Ball Installation on Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System FA94-00-1000
Yes, the Powerbuilt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 or the Fastway/Equal-i-zer part # EQ70-00-4800 will allow you to properly torque the hitch ball in your Fastway weight distribution system # FA94-00-1000.

  • Fastway e2 Trunnion Bar System for 840 lb Tongue Weight, With 2 Inch Hitch Ball and 6 Inch Drop
Okay we can get you set up with everything you need - the Fastway e2 trunnion bar weight system for your 840 lb tongue weight, the correct 2 inch hitch ball for the system, and the shank required that will allow a 6 inch drop. There isn't an option for a system with the tongue weight you have that has a 2 inch ball pre-installed, so that will need to be something you install. It can be made easier, however, with the 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216. With that, here are all...

For this system, you will also just need to add a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # EQ91-00-6080 or the 2-5/16 inch # EQ91-00-6100. I have attached the written installation instructions for this weight distribution system, along with a video demonstration that you can check out.

  • Comparing Equal-i-Zer and Powerbuilt Thin Wall Sockets for Hitch Ball Install
For all intents and purposes there is no functional difference! The Powerbuilt socket part # ALL643216 which is less expensive does the same job as the more expensive Equal-i-Zer socket part # EQ70-00-4800 that you referenced. We actually went and sought out a less expensive option when we first started carrying the Equal-i-Zer brand. A thin walled socket like this is needed to torque down the hitch ball onto the head of the Equal-i-Zer systems.

Yep! The 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 does work with the e2 Fastway round bar weight distribution systems. This socket costs considerably less than the Equal-i-zer socket and works just as well so it's what we normally recommend.

We don't carry an extensive line of sockets at this time so the only 1-7/8 inch socket size we have is the thin walled part # ALL643216 which is for the 3/4 inch drive like most are when they are about this size. A weight distribution system's rating isn't directly related to the capacities of the tow vehicle. So your concern here isn't the 500 pounds tongue weight rating of your 2016 Toyota 4Runner. Instead you need to make sure the system is appropriate for the new trailer.
