Video Transcript for Powerbuilt 12 Point Socket with 3/4 Inch Drive Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eights three-quarter-inch drive socket, part number ALL643216. This socket is ideal for tightening down hinge balls to ball mounts, or weight distribution heads. It's a three-quarter inch drive, so you need to be sure that you have a three-quarter inch drive torque wrench, or an adapter. It's a twelve point oversized socket, and it's built to exceed tool standards. This socket features a lifetime warranty. Now let's go ahead and show you how to use it in a typical situation. We've got our weight distribution system here and we need to torque down our ball.

In order to gain access to it, we're going to go ahead and flip it over, so we can gain access to the nut. As you can see, putting a pipe wrench down there, or any other type of wrench, would be virtually impossible. That's where this socket comes in handy. Lets go ahead and drop the socket in, make sure it gets situated. Then we can take our torque wrench and put it into position.

We'll want to set the torque wrench to whatever our manufacturer recommends for our ball mount. Now we can immobilize the other side of our ball, and begin torquing. If need be, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands to hold your other wrench. Looks like we've got it. Now we can flip it over and continue setting up our weight distribution, or, if this was just a standard ball mount, we'd be ready to tow. That's going to complete our look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eighths socket with a three-quarter-inch drive, part number ALL643216.

Nut on ball is recessed so socket doesn't go all the way down on the nut. 350418

I received the socket and Equalizer WDH on the specified date. All items were there and in good shape. Hint when using the socket: flip the shank upside down for easy access and visibility. Once the ball is installed flip the shank right side up and the socket should dislodge easy. Also, use a long breaker bar for better leverage. 681291

Just the right size to fit the hitch ball nut on the wdh, any longer and it wouldn’t have fit in the space to tighten the nut 616072

Worked great! Great price compared to other brands. Didn't want to spend a lot to hopefully not use this often. Worked like a charm for setting proper torque on equalizer hitch set up! 547508

It takes a 3/4 inch socket wrench. That's THREE QUARTER INCH socket wrench. It is hard to find a 1/2 x 3/4 inch adapter locally in my area and maybe in yours. So heed the warning - it takes a three quarter inch socket wrench. Once you have the right tools, this is fantastic. So much easier than a pipe wrench. 514481

Fits the Equalizer trailer system 14,000lb hitch ball bolt perfectly inside the Equalizer hitch head! And who doesn't like "perfect" with a $40 savings over the Equalizer socket price. THANKS etrailer.com 616076

Worked very well with a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch (FA92-00-0600) to attach a hitch ball - had no issues with side clearance. Not sure what the (much!) more expensive OEM socket brings to the table that this one does not? 505682

Amazing quality and worked perfectly on my 14000 lb Equalizer Distribution hitch.. was a 60 second tighten, and was worried this thin wall socket wouldnt fit (silly me) I purchased a 24ft 3/4 drive torque wrench and that did the trick. Definitely keeping this aboard on my travel trailer. 613144

The hitch is great! I installed the FA92-00-0600 on my 2014 Acura MDX to pull my 2019 Geo Pro 19BH camper. It is night and day between the old and new hitch. Way less bounce and herky jerky when starting and stopping. Really pleased with the hitch. Installation was straight forward though it took a bit of time to dial in just right. You also need some big wrenches for sure. I also bought the ALL643216 socket to attach the EQ91-00-6100 hitch ball. The packaging left something to be desired. Part of the box was falling apart and things fell out of the box when I moved it off my doorstep. The hitch is almost 100 lbs so I'm not totally surprised, but this could be improved for sure. 656181

No problem with the socket at all. However, I ordered it because the Equil-i-zer weight distribution hitch said a thin walled socket was required for the ball. This etrailer brand is a less expensive than the Equil-i-zer brand socket......but as it turns out, my standard 3/4" drive socket out of my standard set fits just fine. No need for the thin walled socket in my case. I suppose some socket set brands would be different, but you may want to try your standard socket before ordering a thin walled socket. 436330

Bought this to install a 2 5/16" ball with a 1 1/4" shank 2 3/4" long to a Fastway e2 FA94-00-0800 hitch as a thin wall socket was all they said was needed but this will not fit. It fits but once the nut is tightened there isn't room to remove the socket. I'm a do-it-yourselfer so I figured it out.....I got the cut off wheel out and took a 1/4" off the open end of the socket and now it has room to come off after the nut is torqued. All in all it's a very nice socket, just a little long for the application that it was supposed to work on. 737638

  • Will Powerbuilt 1-7/8 Inch Socket # ALL643216 Work with Fastway Weight Distribution System
Yes, the Powerbuilt 1-7/8 Inch 12pt Socket # ALL643216 referenced in your question will work perfectly with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System # FA94-00-0600 to help with installation. For this system, you will also just need to add a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # EQ91-00-6080 or the 2-5/16 inch # EQ91-00-6100. I have attached the written installation instructions for this weight distribution system, along with a video demonstration that you can check out.

In the review video on the # ALL643216 socket, we found we were able to torque down the hitch ball in the Equal-I-zer hitch just fine with the socket. I have attached the review video of this socket for you.

  • Is a Thin-Walled Socket Required to Install a Ball on Blue Ox Sway Pro Weight Distribution Systems
We have not heard that there is limited space to get a socket into the head to tighten the ball on a Blue Ox Sway Pro weight distribution system so given that information socket # ALL643216 could be used. We do have thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 which is also a 1-7/8" socket and designed for tight spaces. If you wanted to err on the side of caution I recommend using the thin-walled socket.

  • Thin Walled Socket Recommendation for Installing Hitch Ball E2 Fastway Weight Distribution System
To install the hitch ball on an Equal-i-Zer weight distribution system you do need to use a thin-walled socket. We added this socket to our website for your exact scenario.

  • Comparing Equal-i-Zer and Powerbuilt Thin Wall Sockets for Hitch Ball Install
For all intents and purposes there is no functional difference! The Powerbuilt socket part # ALL643216 which is less expensive does the same job as the more expensive Equal-i-Zer socket part # EQ70-00-4800 that you referenced. We actually went and sought out a less expensive option when we first started carrying the Equal-i-Zer brand. A thin walled socket like this is needed to torque down the hitch ball onto the head of the Equal-i-Zer systems.

A weight distribution system that is rated too high for your total tongue weight of your loaded trailer and cargo behind the rear axle, can be an issue. For your Ice Castle Fish House, the weight of the unit will determine what Equal-I-zer system will work best. Even though the e2 # FA92-00-0800 system doesn't have a minimum weight capacity listed it is best to stay about 200 lbs above your trailer TW to avoid using a system that is rated too high.
