Recommended Weight Distribution Shank for Drop with Fastway e2 System

Question:

This hitch lists 2inch maximum . Is that measurement from top of the receiver to top of ball? Or top of receiver to ball mount surface? 2015 Jeep Cherokee, top of receiver opening is 20.5inch from ground, trailer top of receiver is 17.

Because the top of the receiver opening can have different size collars from hitch to hitch, we measure from the top of the inside opening to make sure it is consistent. I've attached an article to assist.

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion # FA92-00-0450 has a maximum rise from the ball platform of 6 inches, and maximum drop of 2 inches and adjustments 1-1/4 inches in between.

If the top of your receiver opening is 20.5 inches and the bottom of your coupler is 17 inches, then I recommend using the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Shank # FA92-02-4214 which has up to a 4 inch drop.

Question:

Thanks. Actually, the 20.5 is the top of the inside opening as you describe. But the 17" trailer measurement is the top of the coupler. So, I'm guessing the bottom is about 14". Given that, if I get the 600# round bar system, and use the FA92-02-4214 shank, I should be Ok. Do you sell the 600# round, without the shank, so I'm not paying for two shanks? Also, if I order a system and a ball, can you install hitch balls (as I don't have the tools to do it myself)? Or do I need to find a shop locally to do it?

We don't have a system of that size that doesn't come with a shank, so unfortunately you will have an additional shank with the Fastway System. I recommend you stay with the trunnion style system because it will give you more ground clearance than the round bar style system and you already have a low trailer at 14 inches. The # FA92-00-0600 is rated for a total tongue weight between 200 and 600 lbs. Then for a drop shank, I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17124 which will work well with this system and give you the drop needed at a more economical price point.

For a hitch ball you will want # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch ball or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. Based on your trailer and system weight, you most likely will have a coupler with a 2 inch ball requirement. We don't install the hitch ball, but you will want # ALL643216 for you or a local mechanic to assist you.

I've attached an article on weight distribution systems to help make sure you get the correct system as it is dependent on the loaded tongue weight of the trailer and any cargo behind the rear axle of your Jeep. This makes the total tongue weight which you want to be in the middle range of the total tongue weight of your weight distribution system.
