Video Transcript for LubriMatic Wheel Bearing Grease Review

Hi there, trailer owners. I just got done repacking the bearings on our trailer here, so it's the perfect time to talk about LubriMatic's High Performance Wheel Bearing Grease. We're going to be looking at the line here of their standard high performance grease as well as their high performance Marine grease. These greases are available in either tubs, tubes, or cans, depending on how you're going to be using them. If you are going to be repacking wheel bearings, and you've got a bearing packer, I would highly recommend getting either a can or a tub, so you can fill those packers easily. If you're going to just be easy lube on your Zerk fittings here with your grease gun, then you can get it in your 14 ounce tubes that will slide right into your grease gun so you can use that. The high performance wheel bearing grease is going to be great for something like our camper or our gooseneck trailer here, while the Marine grease is going to be ideal for your boat, jet ski and other submersible trailers.

Both the Marine and the regular high-performance grease is going to have a GC-LB rating by the NLGI, which is the highest rating possible. They're both going to be a NLGI grade # two, which gives it a consistency close to peanut butter. Our standard grease has a drop point of about 520 degrees Fahrenheit. And that's when it starts to break down. With our Marine grease, it has a similar properties, but it's going to have additional anti-corrosion properties in it to help resist against rust and keep out any moisture.

And the drop point is going to increase to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. The Marine grease here provides excellent corrosion protection under severe conditions caused by salt water and air. And it's able to do this because of its special calcium sulfonate complex, which is a water insoluble formula, keeping it ideal for those Marine applications. One thing to keep in mind with wheel bearing greases and really all greases in general is that the properties of the grease are specific to its chemical compounds. So it's not a good idea to mix multiple types of greases together. If they're made of different compounds, those compounds can potentially react with one another and cause the grease to break down.

And once it starts to break down, you're not going to have those same lubricating properties that you did before and it could cause damage to your components. So when replacing your wheel bearing grease, if you're going to repack your bearings and stuff, I highly recommend replacing all of it if you're unsure what grease is there. One way you can somewhat tell is by color, but you can't go by color alone, because some manufacturers do use similar colors, but they may have different chemical compositions. So if you've got red wheel bearing grease, then I would recommend using the high-performance grease here to replace that. And if you've got Marine grease, which is going to usually be the green color here, then I would recommend that. But I recommend you take out all that old grease and make sure you're using all fresh grease, so you don't have any mixtures between those compounds. And that completes our look at LubriMatic's line of wheel bearing grease..

Just one of the many satisfied customers with the company etrailer. I have used this on line site to refurbish my used boat trailers over the last 10 + years. During this pandemic I sort of let my trailer sit around and just wait until the end is near to react and make the trailer road worthy. After 3 years in out of salt water (mostly in) you might get this. After acquiring new brakes and drums from etrailer it’s back to the salt water again. Thanks for the essential workers at etrailer George, Savanna, and Carol. Cheers

I purchased 4 of these wheel assemblies for my 1993 boat trailer. It was far cheaper to replace the entire assembly than to buy all the peices and put it together myself. The parts were all high quality, and included evrything except the headache of assembly. I'll be back in 20 years or so. :)

Comments
The items mentioned are still working well. I have been so pleased with my etrailer purchases that we bought 4 new tires and rims from you this spring. Paid less for 4 tires and rims than the local dealer wanted for two tires, no rims.

Brake drums were exactly what I ordered. etrailer was amazing, I ordered on a Sunday afternoon around 5:00 PM and within about 30 minutes I received a call form them with a couple of questions about my order and by around 8:00 PM I had received an email that my order was shipped. All my parts showed up by Wednesday in perfect condition. I installed them all on Friday afternoon, everything was a perfect fit. Now my 20 year old trailer is like new and ready for the trip Im about to take it on across country.

Comments
I could not be more pleased with the products I purchased from etrailer.com. Everything arrived when expected, all parts were correct and the install was super simple. etrailer is the best place to buy supplies for your trailer bar none.

It’s Greece it did it’s job and reduce the friction. So far I don’t have any complaints it’s only been through one season on my boat trailer hubs. Etrailer made it easy to do a one stop shop and buy everything I needed for the project.

The products were ordered on Sunday night late, delivered by Wednesday. Converting drum surge brakes to disc, electric over hydraulic on a boat trailer for 26ft Sea Ray boat. I had everything including Titan brake actuator, 4 kodiac rotor and caliper conversion kits with bearings, and new lines installed by Thursday evening. Installation was straight forward, everything fit perfectly. One of the calipers was malfunctioning (not releasing). I called customer service and I had a new one within two days, it's now installed and working great!! Great product! Awesome service!!

Shipping was a little slow but with all that is going on in the world I guess that is expected. Product was an exact match and fit. Bearing tool was definitely a good buy and seems to be a quality product that will last as many times as I will need it. Having the install videos on your website was also a great help. Thanks!

This trailer hub assembly was perfect replacement for the rusted hubs and worn bearings on my Shorelandr boat trailer. I use the boat exclusively in salt water so a galvanized hub was a necessary replacement to combat rust and deterioration associated with that environment. Pricing was fair and shipping was as promised to the west coast. The only issue was a missing bearing and three lug nuts from one of the hub kits. The missing parts were promptly reshipped after contacting etrailer; excellent service and highly recommended.

Made for salt water / harsh environments. It fits a standard grease gun. It took less than one tube for my single axel trailer. However, I bought two so I have a spare.

- L11402
by:

purchased the tubes for refills on my grease gun. this is a follow up for cleaning my wheel bearings and changing to calcium sulphonate complex. Since this grease is not commonly stocked at the stores I've shopped, seems like a good idea to stock up on several tubes. as usual, the people at etrailer responded very quickly.

I recently upgraded my 43 year old small boat trailer with parts from ETRAILER. New hubs, bearings, Bearing Buddy's, wheels and tires. Natalie L spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me to figure out what I needed and when it arrived everything was perfect. This is the first time I have replaced the hubs and wheels in 43 years. Timely service, great prices and I could not be more pleased.

Easy to install, load with grease. My trailer's wheels were blissfully silent across an 800 mile round trip. (Now to return the ones I didn't need...)

Great product. Buy it with your hubs, use it even if the trailer is not for marine use as it lasts longer. The cap on the tube that I got was busted open but the grease did not come out even in shipping.

  • Grease Compatible with Boat Trailer Bearing Use
From what I can find online, you can combine the calcium sulfonate grease and an anhydrous calcium grease together, but your quantities and amounts will need to be mixed correctly so it is not too thick. A grease too thick will not operate the same under temperature changes and will also not be as fluid to lubricate all the smaller parts of the bearing. For boat trailer bearings, we normally recommend the Calcium Sulfonate grease like the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease...

  • Is LubriMatic High Temperature Grease Better Than LubriMatic Marine Grease
The difference between the High Temperature Grease, like part # L11465, and the Marine Grease, like part # L11402, has to do with what they are used for. The high temperature grease is great for dry application where your trailer is not meant to be immersed in water. The marine grease, on the other hand, is made for trailers that will be immersed in water. It provides excellent corrosion protection under severe conditions caused by saltwater and air. They are both excellent types...

  • What Grease is the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease Part # L11402 Compatible With
The LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease part # L11402 has a calcium sulfonate base. If the Mallory Marine Wheel Bearing Grease part 9-82750 that you are referring to also has this type of base then it will work well together. It will also work well with a few other bases as you can see in the attached photo and help article. If you need a grease gun then I recommend the LubriMatic Professional Pistol Grease Gun part # L30416 as the 18" flex hose makes for easy use in tight spots.

  • Can Marine Wheel Bearing Grease Be Used In a Utility Trailer
Yes, you can use marine wheel bearing grease in both your boat and utility trailer. It will not hurt anything at all to use marine wheel bearing grease in your utility trailer. The only real difference between the two greases is that the marine wheel bearing grease is much more hydrophobic so it repels water more effectively. However, marine wheel bearing grease is typically less cost effective than just standard wheel bearing grease which is why everyone just doesn't use marine wheel bearing...

    That is an excellent question!
