RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

Stays where you put it, no visible sag. Get the substrate clean (rubbing alcohol) before applying. Worth the high price, but that is the only reason for not giving 5 stars.

Product demonstrated good adhesion to the van roof as well as the plastic fan housing. Tile will tell.etrailer.com service staff , in particular Carol and George, picked up the ball that USPS fumbled and immediately resent my order . Unparalleled service !

by:

Arrived, had a small issue with one product, etrailer resolved it ASAP! It’s all good thanks!

by:

Great product, but the way you ship unreal. That's why I try avoiding buying from you. You start with UPS which get the item here to my local postal distribution center in 2 days then I have to wait another 3 days to get the item delivered by USPS... Just ship with UPS all the way and get us the item we want quickly.. no waiting....Shame on You etrailer...

by:

I was happy with the prompt service and the quality of the products.

by:

I needed a roof sealant compatible with my rigs PVC roof material. It was easy to find that compatibility information on the etrailer site. Called to talk with Customer Service to confirm and Ian took great care of me on this and other product related questions. Called in the morning, placed the order and it shipped that afternoon. Here in just a couple days. Setting the bar high for customer service and fast shipping in my humble opinion.

by:

I did a lot of research and settled on installing a PVC membrane. etrailer made the research and decision process simple and efficient. I really like the videos they have on the product page, it helped with making the decision. I just received the product and waiting for the rain to break and I will install it.

by:

The product(s) came quickly, I am just finishing up some repair items and then the new roof membrane will be installed. Ordering, customer service, shipping, follow up were all excellent.. so far so good doing business with eTrailer and Bailey has been very helpful.

by:

This stuff works very well. This is my second tube of this caulk. Great to seal leaky seams in an old roof, after removing the old caulk.

Customer service at etrailer is excellent.

My experience is that etrailer always has the hard-to-find items that I really need to keep the old RV in good shape.

  • Curing Time of LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Non-Sag Sealant
According to LaSalle Bristol their XTRM sealant like part # 344270341437-1 develops a firm skin in about 2 hours under normal circumstances. Once it has a firm skin the RV can be exposed to the elements. It fully cures in 5-7 days and at that point it has a density very similar to that of a pencil eraser. It should also always be installed at no less than 40 degree fahrenheit.

  • 2013 Jayco Swift SLX Power Inlet Hatch Swap to a TwistLoc Style
The Furrion 30 Amp Power Inlet part # 431861 is designed to fit a 2 1/2" hole (see Photo). With your hole being 5/16" larger than that it will be close but will work without any issues. you will only have just over an 1/8" of extra hole all the way around and the mounting holes for it are well outside of that. Be sure to use a good sealant like the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Non-Sag Sealant part # 344270341437-1 to ensure you don't have any leaks to deal with.

  • Ratings For LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Non-Sag Sealant
This is exactly the type product to use for sealing a roof seam on an RV, it is designed to seal the roof membrane edges and vertical surfaces. I suggest the # 34427034145-1 for a self-leveling option with skylights, vents, and other horizontal surfaces of your RV. The manufacturer of LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Non-Sag Sealant for RVs, # 344270341437-1 does not list a UV rating only that it is water resistant with a shelf life of 18 months. As with most sealants, they do not have warranties...

  • When is Non-Sagging Universal Roof Sealant Preferred Over Self-Leveling
You'd want to use the non-sag sealant part # 344270341437-1 on vertical applications where you wouldn't want the sealant to drip or run. The # 34427034145-1 is better for horizontal applications as it's self-leveling, but it would run or drip on a vertical application.

  • Can You Only Use Butyl Tape For Trailer Roof Vent
Technically you can only use Butyl Tape # 344270341410-1 around your roof vent, but doing so will very likely lead to leaks. So I definitely recommend using Sealant # 344270341437-1.

  • Adding Gutter Extensions To A 2006 Lance Truck Bed Camper
To install the Camco RV Rain Gutter Spouts w/ Extensions # CAM42134 on your 2006 Lance Truck Bed Camper you'll simply need to remove the screw at the end of the gutter and cut the caulk to pull it up from the wall of the camper. You can then slide the spouts in behind the gutter and screw it back into place with the screw going through the spout as well to hold it in place. Once that's done I recommend resealing around the gutter and spout using some Non-Sag Sealant # 344270341437-1.
