Should I Replace Trailer Tires that are 5 Years Old? ST225/75R 15E

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/12/2025

Question:

I purchased a 2021 Cougar 5th wheel 10/1/25. 10000 Gvwr, less than 500 miles and they dont show wear owner had rv up on jacks with no weight on tires. Plans are to make trips to Florida this winter. Next summer several weeks out West. Trips originating from central Ohio. Tires are Trailer King RST ST225/75R 15E. Manufacture date 07/20. I pulled unit 125 miles to get it home. No shaking or bouncing as if it had flat spots on tires. Pulled very nice. Should I go ahead and replace the tires to avoid unwanted trouble on longer trips. Thanks for you time Jim

Hey Jim, it would be in your best interest to replace the tires now even though they look like they are fine. Trailer tires are only really good for 4-6 years before they start breaking down which makes them much more prone to failure. So they might look great but they could blow out at any point since the rubber is getting older and breaking down.

For a replacement the part # TR225LRE that you referenced would be a really great option.

Hey Jim, how did things go with the new Provider tires for your Cougar 5th wheel? Your update could make it easier for others planning long trips with older trailer tires.
