Video Transcript for Review of LubriMatic Lubricants Sealants Adhesives - Grease - L54FR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the LubriMatic marine trailer wheel bearing grease in these 3-ounce cartridges for a quantity of three. Now this'll provide excellent corrosion protection against severe conditions that can be caused by salt water and salt air. You can use this grease on wheel bearings including disc brake wheel bearings, swivel hinges, pins, winches, and anchor chain reels. This is a special calcium sulfonate complex water insoluble formula, so it's ideal for marine applications. This grease is rated GC-LB by the NLGI #2, has a dropping point of 550 degrees Fahrenheit.

Again, the specs we mentioned, it's for three 3-ounce cartridges. Now to install this grease, it does need to be used with a mini grease gun which we do sell separate on our website. And you want to get the mini grease gun that's designed to use these 3-ounce cartridges. That grease gun we sell separately as part number L30100. Now the overall dimension on each cartridge is about 6 inches long by about 1 1/4 inch diameter.

And one note I do wanna mention, you do not want to mix grease types. So when you go to install this, you should remove the old grease before applying any new grease. But that should do it for the review on the LubriMatic Marine trailer wheel bearing grease in the 3-ounce cartridges for a quantity of three..

Ask the Experts about this LubriMatic Lubricants Sealants Adhesives

  • Grease Compatible with Boat Trailer Bearing Use
From what I can find online, you can combine the calcium sulfonate grease and an anhydrous calcium grease together, but your quantities and amounts will need to be mixed correctly so it is not too thick. A grease too thick will not operate the same under temperature changes and will also not be as fluid to lubricate all the smaller parts of the bearing. For boat trailer bearings, we normally recommend the Calcium Sulfonate grease like the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease...

  • Is the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Bearing Grease Compatible with Starplex EP 2 Grease
Yes, the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Bearing Grease, # L54FR, is compatible with the Starplex EP 2 grease that you currently have on your Karavan boat trailer. I have attached an article on lubricating grease that you may find helpful when searching for new bearing grease.

  • Is LubriMatic High Temperature Grease Better Than LubriMatic Marine Grease
The difference between the High Temperature Grease, like part # L11465, and the Marine Grease, like part # L54FR, has to do with what they are used for. The high temperature grease is great for dry application where your trailer is not meant to be immersed in water. The marine grease, on the other hand, is made for trailers that will be immersed in water. It provides excellent corrosion protection under severe conditions caused by saltwater and air. They are both excellent types of...

  • Recommended Grease for use With Bearings on Boat Trailers Disc Brakes
I recommend going with a grease specifically made for marine applications and disc brakes, such as the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR. This grease is made from a water insoluble formula with a 550 degree drop point and would be the perfect grease for the disc brakes on your boat trailer.

  • What Grease is the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease Part # L11402 Compatible With
The LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease part # L54FR has a calcium sulfonate base. If the Mallory Marine Wheel Bearing Grease part 9-82750 that you are referring to also has this type of base then it will work well together. It will also work well with a few other bases as you can see in the attached photo and help article. If you need a grease gun for 3 oz cartridges then I recommend the Mini- Grease Gun part # L30-132-07 .

  • Recommendation For Greasing Boat Trailer Bearings - Regular or Marine Grease
Your statement (I have heard others say that you should never mix marine grease with general purpose grease, but mixing different brands of marine grease wont hurt.) sums up the way I have used grease all of my life. • Is there a Specific Temperature Rating Needed for Wheel Bearing Grease on a Trailer
As long as the wheel bearing grease you use is appropriate for the application, in this case marine grease is ideal # L30-132-07 and # L54FR, then the temperature rating will be rated appropriately as well. There isn't one specific temperature rating or range to adhere to as long as the grease can be used with wheel bearings and is compatible with any old grease in the hubs. I have included a link to our help article on grease that also has a compatibility table.

  • Grease Recommendation for Casita Travel Trailer With Unknown Grease in Hub
Without knowing for sure what grease you have in your hub I can only really make a recommendation for the Red grease like part # L54FR which is the most universal style of grease we carry and also the most heavy duty. For a grease gun for 3 oz cartridges you then would want the part # L30-132-07.

  • Can Marine Wheel Bearing Grease Be Used In a Utility Trailer
Yes, you can use marine wheel bearing grease in both your boat and utility trailer. It will not hurt anything at all to use marine wheel bearing grease in your utility trailer. The only real difference between the two greases is that the marine wheel bearing grease is much more hydrophobic so it repels water more effectively. However, marine wheel bearing grease is typically less cost effective than just standard wheel bearing grease which is why everyone just doesn't use marine wheel bearing...

  • Is it Advisable to Mix Different Types of Wheel Bearing Grease in Trailer Bearing
Certain types of grease are compatible with each other but since you do not know what type is in your trailer now we recommend that you remove the existing grease from your trailer wheel bearings before refilling them. Even if you know what type of grease is currently in the bearings there is some chance that the old grease may be contaminated from moisture. Cleaning out all the existing grease and replacing all of it with fresh is the way to go. I have linked an article that may be helpful...
