BoatBuckle's second-generation transom tie-down straps bolt to the rear crossmember of your trailer and simplify the securing and unloading of your boat. These corrosion-resistant, stainless steel tie-downs are designed to keep constant tension on the strap and require minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store tie-down straps that hook to the transom anchors on your boat, you will find that BoatBuckle's straps are always right where you need them. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the transom anchor, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the transom anchor, and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

These straps come with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install them. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nuts are properly tightened down over the bolts. You can mount the ratchets with the included bolts directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: Transom tie-downs should always be used along with a winch strap and a set of gunwale tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

I can't believe that etrailer has done nothing in three years to address the problem of the mounting nuts and bolts being incorrect, and therefor useless. The bolt and nut have two different threads. I read where people had complained about this problem back as far as 2013 and yet etrailer has done nothing to fix the problem. I just received my boatbuckles and when I went to mount them I couldn't with the supplied hardware. I ended up going to a hardware store and spend around ten bucks to get the correct nuts and bolts to use to mount the buckles. I just can't understand why they're aware of the problem and continue to ship them with the incorrect fitting nuts and bolts. After about fifteen years of buying from etrailer, this is my last order. It's incomprehensible that they'd do this knowing the end user can't mount the parts without having to discard the parts they paid for in the package and have to go out and spend more money getting what you need to use the buckles. Unbelieveable! 247787

Update to my review: Kudos to etrailer for getting this problem corrected at the source. Ive been informed that etrailer has taken this problem back to the supplier, IMMI, and they are in the process of sorting and inspecting all product in house for this defect. IMMI will get it corrected and implement a permanent corrective action to prevent another recurrence in the future, and etrailer will begin to monitor customer feedback with these types of concerns. To their credit, IMMI has sent me some replacement nuts and bolts that came threaded together to show they were correct to replace the defective ones that came with the BoatBuckles I purchased. I guess everyone can make a mistake, its a good company that corrects it and makes it right with the customer. Two thumbs up for etrailer and IMMI. Ill continue to do business with them in the future.

I have had the Stainless Steel (SS) Boat Buckles for a year. They installed easily and perform flawlessly. I find them much more convenient and just as strong as any tie-down I've used with my 1500 lb. boat. Reviews on other websites indicated that the SS bolts used to install them suffered from galling. So I cut them shorter to eliminate excess threading, chamfered the cut end, polished them, used lithium grease as lube and STILL suffered galling on one of them during installation. I cut it off, bought a new matching bolt, repeated the steps and it went on fine. My boat is used in both salt and fresh water; the Boat Buckles have not suffered corrosion and work perfectly. I highly recommend them 309096

The stainless steel Boat Buckles I purchased from you last year work great. They are a LOT more convenient than traditional tie-down straps. The old straps left marks on the fiberglass transom because they had a metal buckle that rested against the transom. The Boat Buckles eliminate that problem and are always on the trailer. They tighten and release easily but hold securely. I purchased new stainless steel bolts for installation because the original boltsnuts galled before I could tighten them securely… even though I used lubricant on them before assembly. I had to cut them out with an angle grinder. The new SS bolts

I've been using BoatBuckles for a few years with my drift boat and they are a great product. I purchased this set for my jet boat and the BoatBuckles themselves are great, but the included mounting hardware is worthless. The bolt will not thread-on beyond the end of the nut. I nearly had to cut the bolt off to remove it once the nut became jammed on the bolt. Bottomline, I had to spend $ to replace the SS nut and bolt in order to install them. It would have been a 5-star review if the included hardware actually worked. 394393

I only gave this product 3 out of 5 stars because of the hardware associated with the boat buckles. I bought these to replace boat buckles on my boat trailer that were old and tired. I have always had great luck with these on my boat trailers and wouldn't replace them with anything else. The installation is normally extremely simple but not with this set. This set is the stainless version and it comes with stainless fine thread bolts and top lock nuts. I have had experience with fine thread stainless bolts before and knew their tendency for galling. I did not know how these top lock nuts would work with fine thread stainless and galling but I got out the antiseize anyway. I coated one bolt with antiseize and started installation very, very slowly. Heat started to build immediately every time you would turn the nut a few revolutions. I began the process of turning the nut a few times and then walking away for a while. Then I would come back and do it again. I made it half way and the bolt galled and completely locked down. Once this happens, it will not turn either direction. I knew this but tried anyway and ultimately had to cut the bolt off the trailer with a hacksaw. What a major pain! The instructions do not tell you anything about this problem either. I have experience with this issue and tried my best to prevent it and completely failed. The boat buckles are great. Do yourself a favor and throw the hardware in the trash. Get some coarse thread bolts and nylocks to replace the junk that comes with this product. You will thank me. 314672

The boat buckles are fine. Hopefully the manufacturer will get that hardware issue resolved. I am sure it rubs some people the wrong way. For me, I just changed the hardware and moved on.

I received the Boat Buckles....the cheapest I could find that were made of stainless steel.....I used them on my Jet-ski trailer that I had just installed the 5 ft galvanized bunk rollers on the carpeted bunks they were easy to install a little more difficult to adjust the rollers between the jet-ski hull chines but it worked out just perfect. The ratchet is wonderful the only problem I had was , the nut that comes with it was crap. Had to go to the Tractor supply for a new bolt and nut. Had to get the grinding wheel to cut it off my boat trailer. That nut went down 3 threads then would nut tight down more then that it really pissed me off. 496856

I replaced my original buckle tie down straps with these and, oh boy, are they great! They are so easy to attach. Out of habit from dealing with my old ones I always subconsciously prepare for a hassle each time I bend over to hook em up. I am always amazed how smooth these are. Just pull, hook, and flip the lever 1 time! I feel like it SHOULD be more difficult! Some of the best money I have ever spent! 468611

The original boat buckles that I purchased came with defective nuts to secure the bolts to the trailer. The nuts froze when the outside end of the nutt reached the tip of the bolt. Luckily I had attached the boat buckles to universal brackets that I could remove from my trailer, but I could not detach the boat buckles from the brackets. etrailer sent me a replace set of boat buckles that had the same problem with the defective nuts. I tested the nuts and bolts from the replacement buckles before attaching them to the trailer and used other nuts and bolts to attach them. Beware of getting these stuck on your trailer with the defective nuts and bolts. 449300

Holding up great, works well! Spends everyday of its life out in the South Louisiana weather on my 12-foot, all -purpose utility trailer! Would def recommend and thinking of ordering another pair for for my boat trailer. 448001

- IMF14256
by:

I like the fact that I no longer have 3 different straps to untangle every time I load the boat (I have the boat buckle bow strap as well). These are neatly retracted and always ready to go. Install on the ez loader trailer frame was easy once I discarded the included lock nuts and went to a standard nylon lock nut. The mounting hardware included is stainless and good quality, but the included lock nuts are PERMANENT and stripped the threads. I had to cut them off with a saws all because the nut would not fully install. (No, they were not cross threaded ). I recommend the product, but do yourself a favor and throw the included lock nuts away and replace them with nylon lock nuts. 440108

- IMF14256
by:

The ratchet straps themselves work great! Seem to be good quality, and very easy to secure the boat to the trailer. Unfortunately, the mounting bolts that come with it seized up and would not tighten. We had to use our own bolts. This seems to be a problem that is already known. Hopefully they get this fixed. How hard is it to send hardware that actually works? 438362

Hardware issue still.... although supposedly in the process of being fixed in Dec 2016. You are supposed to torq to 45 pounds. I lubed up the bolt. When my socket wrench would not turn the nut past the end of the bolt, I switched to an impact wrench. My impact wrench set at 100+ pounds would not turn the nut. I cut it off and went to the store for proper hardware. Since SS can be hard to find, I had to settle for grade 8. Otherwise, the buckles are great... so far. 414664

These seem to be pretty good so far, the Stainless steel version is the only way to go if they are exposed to outside weather, the bolts they send with it are good SS bolts, but bare in mind they are for single wall channel frame trailers and only 2" long, if you have a tube frame like mine you will need longer 3" ones from the hardware store, other than that there strong and easy to use once you get used to the ratchet and release process. 395376

Still like the day they were put on after 1 year, I, originally gave the product 4 stars, because of the weird double handle ratchet system was confusing, but I, would give the product 5 stars for the reliability and quality.

Unfortunately, the mounting hardware for the transom tie-down was the same for the bow tie-down. When the top of the nut reached the top of the bolt it locked up. Unlike the bow tie-down where I was able to back the nut off with a breaker bar I could not do this with the transom tie-down due to location and angle of the bracket I had fabricated to make the tie-down work. I had to use a sawzall to cut the bolt after bending it to about a 30 degree angle trying to get it off. I'll buy some more hardware and make this work but encourage you to provide mounting hardware that actually works. 322796

Bought these stainless steel G2 boat buckles to replace some on my ranger z522 boat trailer. Put them on boat trailer today, removed old ones and replaced with new in about 10 minutes. Was not able to use the accessory bolts that came with the G2's, they were not long enough...read some of the reviews about stainless hardware being a problem seizing...i bought some anti-seize at oreilly automotive just in case...stainless bolts and nuts will heat up and seize without the anti seize. I like the G2 boat buckle, especially the stainless steel, no more corrosion i hope? Time will tell. 297892

These do come with the mounting hardware. I have attached a link to a product review video you can check out.

It is not really supporting the whole boat weight and you are likely using other tie downs, a winch cable, and so on so the transom tie downs will be adequate. If you are not using additional tie downs I do recommend it; such as # IMF14220.

They told me the hook that attaches to the trailer on this system is zinc-coated for corrosion resistance, and the S-hooks are vinyl-coated to protect your boat finish. We do offer straps that use stainless steel. Part # IMF14256, uses a stainless steel body that resists rust...

  • Are All Of The Metal Parts On The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Tie-Downs Stainless Steel
  • I called my contact at BoatBuckle and asked about the G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF14256. They told me the faceplate and springs in the tie-downs are stainless steel and the vinyl coated S-hook is stainless as well. The other internal parts are corrosion resistant. The replaceable parts for these tie-downs are the springs.

  • Can the BoatBuckle Transom Ratchet Straps Handle Being Submerged in Water
  • Yes, the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF08893 are designed to work on boat trailer that get submerged under water so they would do just fine being repeatedly submerged. For a stainless steel version of the part # IMF08893 that you referenced that would do better in saltwater applications you would want the part # IMF14256 instead. Since they are at the back of the trailer they wouldn't bear the brunt of debris or water on the highway so that wouldn't...

  • Recommended BoatBuckle Tie-Downs for Replacing Damaged BoatBuckles on a Shoreliner Boat Trailer
  • It sounds like the previous owner had the BoatBuckle G2 2 inch wide x 43 inches long Transom Tie-Downs # IMF08893 (833lbs), the stainless steel BoatBuckle 2 inch wide x 43 inches long tie-downs (500lbs) # IMF14256, or the mini G2 tie-downs # IMF106877 1 inch wide x 6 foot long (466lbs). I wish there was a way to replace the strap but the best thing for you to do is to replace the units. I have linked the above mentioned products to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • Recommendations on How to Safely Carry 12 Foot Jon Boat on Roof of 2013 Hyundai Tucson
  • A great choice would be a Yakima round bar roof rack with a longer crossbar, which would be made up of the following parts: 58 inch RoundBars, part # Y00409 Q Towers, part # Y00124 Q Clips # Y00699 and # Y00716 To secure the boat to the roof, using ratchet straps like # IMF14256 hooked over the crossbars would provide a secure hold for the boat. Using foam blocks like # S65155 would protect the roof rack from the boat and vice versa, as well as adding some friction to keep the boat...

  • Transom Strap Recommendation for a 2,500 lb Boat
  • You would want the Transom straps part # IMF08893 as it has a break strength of 2,500 lbs and a WLL of 833 lbs. Think of the breaking strength as the strength the strap has when in an emergency situation and the WLL as the amount of weight it can handle continuously. Since the strap wouldn't be supporting the full weight of your boat at all times the # IMF08893 would work well for yours that weighs 2,500 lbs.

  • Difference Between the Ratchet Straps # IMF14393 and the # IMF14256
  • Realistically the only difference between the part # IMF14393 and the # IMF14256 is that the part # IMF14256 is sold in pairs and the part # IMF14393 is sold individually. Aside from that they have different intended uses but realistically they are the same ratchet setups. The pair is described as being for transom straps and the single is for the bow of the trailer.
